I've been fixated on too many negative things lately, and need to focus on something more whimsical. Maybe someone else could use some of this lighthearted stuff too.
So fun fact: beetles are an incredibly diverse group. Not only are they the largest order of insects, but there are also more described species of beetle than there are any other kind of animal. Because of this, there is this quote attributed to a scientist, J.B.S Haldane, that went something along the lines of: if there is a Creator, then he must have an inordinate fondness for beetles.
I don't know if he actually said that, but ya'll... hear me out. Whatever one's beliefs are about the nature of God, or if one even exists, this is genuinely such a funny concept to think about. I mean here we are, mortals on Earth with our own niche interests like turtles, legos, plants, pottery, medieval swords, dinosaurs, vintage coins, etc.
And then there's Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, and sure, His work and glory is to bring to pass the eternal life of man, but also.... well....... listen folks, He just really likes beetles! That's His thing. Don't question it.
You think grandpa’s room full of model trains is impressive? Oh wait until you see the entire planet God has just for beetles! They may not be His children, but they are absolutely His babies.
The angels will keep asking "Lord why are you making so many of these?" and He'll like hold up a bunch of weevils and say "I just think they're neat!" [insert a Marge Simpson meme that I'm too lazy to make here]
Later they’ll ask “Lord, why did you let that asteroid kill off the dinosaurs? Are we to contemplate the mysteries of life and death in the cycles of your creations?”
God: ….....yes….... yes that’s exactly it. (Plot twist, He just got sick of everyone always talking about the dinosaurs and wanted an excuse to make more beetles).
everyday struggle i fear
And then it struck the writer, the scene was the story's Tien.
R. I. P. Lift, you would have loved annoying people with 6-7 jokes.
“I asked chat gpt—” yeah well I asked pmg chapter 3 and it told me that there is more grace, love, and mercy in Jesus Christ than there is failure, flaw, or sin in us. so yeah
I think I'm going to remember this phrase every time I cook for the next five years
i think about Mario Coping Mechanisms a Lot. it makes me smile so wide. The abstraction of mario not as like... a 40 year old man but as a Fellow Student in first grade or whatever is so . Its so good. He's going to school. He is nice to his classmates. Mario knows the expectations for class and if he works hard to follow them, he will be awesome.

My friends and I all took a “which Jane Austen love interest would you fall for?” and I was like ooh ooh I hope I get Mr. Knightley. But also if they have Henry Tilney on there he’s super underrated and I would get his humor better than Catherine anyway so I want him too. One of my friends said she wanted Mr. Darcy and I was like eh hard pass. Everyone looked at me like I committed sacrilege and I was like look! I love him! As a character! And I think he’s great for Elizabeth! I am really super happy that Elizabeth ended up with him. And also perfectly content to not be Elizabeth because he’s just not for me. And then we took the test and I got Mr. Darcy and one of my friends said “I forgot not liking him was a prerequisite for falling in love with him” and I threw my phone at her (spiritually, not physically, bc phones are expensive)
I needed to see this today.

“Tonight we’re not a painter or a yoki-hijo. Tonight we’re just people.”
I wanted to do a nice illustration of the dance sequence from Wind and Truth but every time I tried something, I didn't like it. Then I picked up Calvin and Hobbes and an idea struck me.
The weirdest part of drawing this was making Kaladin smile 😂
I pulled out the paints and inks for this! I wanted to capture the essence of Calvin and Hobbes as much as possible. I still need a lot of practice with traditional watercolors and gouaches. And the style was hard to emulate; Bill Watterson is truly a modern master.
(Prints available here!)
More Kaladin and Shallan as Calvin and Susie! Words of Radiance especially radiates (lol) this energy 😂
