I'm Cyan (or anything you wanna call me) this blog started as just a stash for Dungeon Meshi extras and worldbuilding details but expanded as people asked questions and I did my best to answer! Hope you find it as useful as I do. I try my best to categorize my posts so they're easy to find but sometimes I forget.
If you'd like to share something you compiled yourself feel free to send it to me and I'll reblog it! You can also send a submission if you'd prefer. The main goal is to share Dungeon Meshi information :3

Types of post
For referencing - Canon things and other information you might want to go back to.
Compilation - Posts where I compile lots of canon art/sketches about a specific subject.
Dunmeshi thoughts - My own non canon thoughts. I also use the tag speculation when relevant
Dunmeshi complaint - Tag for more negative subjects/discourse in case you wanna block that. I usually go back and delete the ones that don't seem productive
Asks - Since I post quite a lot of asks I decided to divide them into some tags so they're easier to filter: Lore ask | Character ask | Meta ask | About Cyan
Hii, sorry if you posted about it already but i couldnt find it under the falin tag and google is not helping at all. Do you have that short about Marcille and Falin going to see the play about that book Marci loves? 👉👈
I hadn't posted it yet no! Here it is along with another Daltian Clan bonus
helo mayor meshi. I have noticed that in the raceswap page of the main characters, they all have neutral expressions (presumably to show off the design as well as possible) except Marcelle in the elf section.
Marcille in the elf panel is still her half-elf self (I guess for spoiler reasons) but it's really funny that she's looking directly at the viewer like she's upset that she's still a half-elf while she got a fully tall-man version of herself in the previous panel. But I haven't seen anyone mention this. I've checked the other panels and all the other characters also have neutral/their natural expressions, am I the only one who has noticed this?
Hello!
If you look closely all of them look a little troubled in their original races not just Marcille (Izutsumi even looks angry) I believe it's just that Marcille tends to emote 'bigger' than the others so hers calls a little more attention.
Marcille has said herself she doesn't want to become a full elf when Thistle accuses her of wanting that, and when she becomes a dungeon lord nothing indicates she desires to change her race. (ch 69)
Btw this is not a headcanon, I have said in a previous post that "as far as headcanons go that fits well within canon" but since then I have changed my mind and I am just certain it's canon now.
She literally says it with all her words that she isn't attracted to anyone and the chapter that follows that only proves it.
You can not like it or think it's not "clear enough" to be canon but honestly, she literally said it, idk what else you could want, it's as canon as can be.
And for people who think she's "too young" (at 17) or "too traumatized" to be aroace, would you say that about any other sexual identity?
Shuro's Retainers and the flowers from their nicknames
I really wanted to see what these flowers look like so I compiled some information about them. I tried to find the best info I could but it might not be 100% accurate (Things like flower language can vary and I couldn't find much in English)

Hi, I was going back thru some of your posts, and in regards to the Nakamoto’s retainer’s flower nicknames, I wondered about Izutsumi’s- I read your tags taking the “always with you” meaning of asebi as ironic/ sarcastic bc she wants to leave, but could it also be a “nicer” (not actually nice obv, like passive aggressive) way of saying maizuru feels like she’s stuck with her? (like with the way toshitsugu “gave” her to maizuru). (Kind of reminding me of the English phrase “sticking around like a bad smell” kind of vibe, like saying “always together” but in a negative way)? I ask because, even if the literal meaning makes sense to me in English, obv the way phrases can mean different things is cultural & differs in different language, so idk if that interpretation of the nickname would work in Japanese language or culture.
(I also know you said you’re not fluent or not that good at Japanese yourself, so I don’t expect you to necessarily be able to answer this- if not that’s all good- this question is also kind of hopefully directed @ any English-speaking Japanese fans who might follow you, or people who are very knowledgeable about Japan & Japanese?)
Hello! You're referring to this post I believe, here's the Izutsumi section for those who haven't seen it.
Real Name: Unknown, Izutsumi
Flower: Asebi (アセビ)
English name: Japanese Andromeda, Japanese Pieris
Scientific name: Pieris japonica
Flower Language (Hanakotoba): Dedication, Always with you, "I want to go traveling with you"
Just for some behind the scenes on that post I went to search all the flowers in Japanese websites and for a lot of them there was different meanings in different sites, but I tried to gather the ones that repeated, so for Asebi the meaning I saw repeated the most was that of "being together" I guess. There wasn't a good place to add in the post but Asebi also can be read like "drunken horse tree" and it's called that because it's poisonous to horses, so that might be another reason why they gave her that nickname (kind of as an insult/something to be mocked) so even if the meaning of the flower is sweet it's pretty obvious they gave her an "ugly name".
Here's one of the sites I remember checking for the flower meaning, I checked other various sites though, just to double and triple check, and wrote down the most common ones I saw like I said before, this site also mentions the name origin.
由来もわかる花言葉!馬酔木(アセビ)の花言葉をご紹介。その由来や誕生花、出回り時期、美しい画像など
And yeah, I never got too far with my japanese studying so I rely a lot on machine translation to fill the voids but I do my best to get the most accurate information when researching, sometimes I double check with friends that are better at japanese than me too.
I don't know anything about what you were asking for though, but hopefully someone knows or this extra info helps.
Highkey a chud and I loveee halffoots plus rlly niche characters im so interested in the old halffoot dude that yells at the group for not being gold and then just fucking dies by getting stabbed by an orc,
I know he’s shown in the commutative halfoot portraits with some other random ones but I like him a lot and want to know if he shows up literally anywhere else or if he has a name and I thought you would know seeing that you seem to have a collection of manga pannels. (-3-)
I’d put an image of him if I could but not allowed here 🥹
I have the whole manga saved and cataloged in my mind 😌 (I do need to reread though)
Okay so you mean this guy right? From chapter 09
Fun fact, that's actually NOT the same guy from the race portraits, though I did also think it was since they're so similar
The one from the the race portraits does show up in the manga though, letting Kabru and the canaries in to meet with the shadow governor in chapter 53
In the post-ending extra Chilchuck and His Daughters, Chil says "Just go eat, then come home." ("Come home", not "go home") That implies he lives with Flertom, maybe all his daughters. Am I reading that right?
I didn't remember that wording but yeah, that's what he says in the official english...
They don't live together though, in his section of the AB is says all of them are adults and independent now and of them lives with his estranged wife
In one of his comics he also talks about them like they don't live together
The description of his room (also from the AB) also talks about it like he lives alone
"The basement at Chilchuck's, After his wife left him, Chilchuck rented out his place to relatives and is instead renting a house in Kahka Brud for himself. During expeditions, he stays at the guild lodging house on the Island."
If I remember right he isn't originally from Kahka Brud so he doesn't live even in the same town as his daughters probably?
I decided to check and here's what he says in the original
ドレスも彼氏も敬語もいらねえ
普通に飯食って帰れ
The relevant part is "普通に飯食って帰れ" which from what I gather is pretty much "Just eat normally and go home" he doesn't say anything that implies his house or their house I think? It's just usual yen press not understanding the context in which things are said and making the wrong assumptions.
