What moment during your Durge's journey makes resistance hardest? Or embracing easy?
"Moments of incompetence."
The reporter adjusts themselves in their seat. "I'm sorry, what?"
"If I respect you, it's easier."
"...and if you don't?"
Vash watches the reporter, slowly raising his cigar to his mouth. Embers illuminate as he pulls in smoke.
The reporter pauses, then begins writing in their notepad for several quiet moments.

Talon falters when face to face with Bhaal. All of a sudden he goes from a tortured soul with no direction to a beloved son. All of a sudden someone is there who knows him, knows him and chooses to love him, not just despite his flaws, but because of them. For Elyaste, the moment they broke their paladin's oath was when they had their crisis. Why bother trying to resist the Urge if they just end up hurting people either way? Montague broke when he found out he was a Bhaalspawn. One minute he was a normal (albeit, violent) man, the next, he's a divine fragment with a destiny. He wants that destiny, no matter how afraid it makes him, because that horrible certainty was better than being adrift.
A sharp lamb to be sacrificed! But your cruelty makes the crimson sweeter!

Yet another moodboard to add to my collection! Thank you for the tag, @optimisticgrey.

I'd like to believe this is how it all started.
Does your Durge believe redemption must be earned or granted?
Talon thinks forgiveness is something that he has to earn- he has to be a good enough person before people will endure his presence. Elyaste thinks redemption is something that others have to give them. They are not in control of what others think of them, so all they can do is carry on as they have been.

"What the fuck has gotten into you all these days?" Sofócrono couldn't even enjoy a proper rest day at the tavern.
"Oh, come on!" Amararte complained. "You've answered all of them, why not me?"
Sofócrono snorted. "Because you're fucking my wife?" He made, yet again and for the hundredth time, the same joke.
"Our wife." They pointed out, and yeah, Sofócrono had to nod in agreement because he always forgot she had married them in his absence. "And don't think you're going to dissuade me, I want an answer!"
Sofócrono grunted but ultimately, giving his beer a good gulp, he answered.
"I don't even know what 'redemption' means, not for me." He became pensive, and it was only apparent to Amararte then that he had given this much more thought that they had expected. "I'm not... like the other's that show up in the tabloids, people made anew for good of for bad, and- and I'm not like Tero either, because she has not done a single wrong thing in her life, which, fuck her."
Amararte chuckled at his words, and he did as well in turn, but he didn't lose the severity on his face; if anything, he got even more serious.
"All I've done, I've done it because I wanted to. Maybe sometimes blind with rage but..." He looked down to his hands, flexing them, not unlike Azar did with her flames from time to time, and Amararte seemed to think of the same, sinking in their seat. "My family, I remember all of them. And I was- fuck, a kid! I was a fucking teenager, Art, and they were not even half bad, just afraid. But I was told to hold down, and it went bad."
What "bad" really meant, only he knew; Sofócrono didn't want them to know, and Amararte wouldn't be the first to ask for the single thing he kept to himself.
"If I had to be redemeed of something, that is, and it's both too late and too useless." He shook it off. "Everything that's come after that has been a walk in the park, resurrection and all included."
He drinked again and both kept silence, taking in the words, until he put down the empty mug.
"Are you satisfied?" His tone was cold and his face revealed nothing but mild annoyance, but they hadn't known him for long enough to know that following sigh carried all his remorse.
Amararte was going to nod and change the subject, but stopped. "So... granted?"
He frowned.
"In your opinion, redemption must be granted." They came back to their original question. "Instead of earned."
He played with the edge of the mug. "There are sins whose forgiveness one can't earn back." Amararte took his hand, hoping it would be of some comfort; he didn't retreat it, and sighed again. "Nor be granted."
To all the custom Dark Urges out there :D
Does your Durge believe redemption must be earned or granted?
DurgeQotD
So, I've been putting off answering the Dark Urge questions about Alste for a very long time now (thanks to @durgeappreciation / @optimisticgrey for tagging me🖤), but I think it's finally time to catch up. This will probably take 2-3 posts.
1. When did your Durge first realize that violence wasn't a normal instinct? Was there a specific moment, or did they always know?
"Violence isn't a normal instinct? Whatever is abnormal about it, dear?"
Alste has never considered her violent impulses abnormal. To her, they are simply a natural consequence of Bhaal's blood running through her veins, or perhaps one of the side effects of blood magic.
2. What physical sensations accompany the Urge? Nausea? Fear? Excitement?
Before the events of the game, Alste handles the Urge perfectly well. She feeds it freely and delights in its presence.
"The air grows heavier. Scents become sharper. A shiver runs down your spine before intoxicating warmth floods your veins. It teases every nerve. It makes you smile in anticipation. It promises the warmth of blood on your fingers, the taste of copper and fear on your tongue, and the almost painful ecstasy that will bloom deep inside you and wash over you with your victim's final heartbeat. It whispers that only a single stroke of the blade stands between you and that beautiful feeling.
And you obey.
Gladly."
After nautiloid, however, Alste tries to suppress the Urge. She fails rather spectacularly. The effort is accompanied by nausea, disorientation, and, most importantly, fear. Losing control becomes her greatest terror.
3. What frightens your Durge more: what they remember or what they don't?
What she doesn't remember.
Alste's amnesia leads her into several serious mistakes during Act One. By Act Two, when she begins finding traces of her past actions almost everywhere she turns, she starts treating the world around her like a minefield.
4. Does your Durge believe they were once a good person?
5. Does your Durge feel guilt for violent thoughts, even without acting on them?
6. Does your Durge see themselves as a monster trying to be good or a good soul being punished?
Hah.
No.
Definitely not.
7. Is control over the Urge worth the constant suffering? Wouldn't it be easier to just give in?
Alste's rejection of Bhaal began long before the events of the game.
To be honest, she would have made a far better Chosen of Bane.😅
The way she kills has very little in common with Orin's mindless theatrics. Alste works from carefully selected lists of targets tied to money, personal gratification, and useful material for her blood magic research.
She's not stupid, and Bhaal's grand vision of "the death of all things" raised far too many questions.
The final break comes during her time as Kressa's favorite experiment in Moonrise Towers. From that point onward, Alste chooses to rely only on herself. Not just rejecting Bhaal, but gradually rejecting every god without exception.
To surrender now would mean betraying her own convictions and abandoning a path she chose for herself.
So she resists.
And she will continue resisting until her final breath.
8. What scares your Durge more: obedience or rebellion?
Obedience.
Without question.
9. Does your Durge feel like a danger to the party?
"Heartbeats.
Again.
Again.
Again.
So loud. So insistent.
I hear them everywhere. Steady. Rapid. Thick as sludge. Boiling like tar in a cauldron.
I should stay away.
I crave peace.
I crave silence."
Because of her blood magic, Alste can hear the heartbeats of her companions.
The sound keeps her awake. It irritates her. It slowly wears away at her patience.
And from there, it is only a very short step to wanting to make everything around her quiet.
For that reason, the only companion who is truly safe sleeping beside Alste is Astarion.
(yep,i found something veeery old))
10. What did your Durge do to calm themselves after their first kill?
After her very first kill, which happened in childhood during the slaughter of those who raised her within Kiaransalee's cult in Ched Nasad, Alste spent a long time staring at the city's magical lights.
They had always fascinated her.
She also finds comfort in keeping her hands occupied, turning small objects over between her fingers.
After Alfira's death, however, the victim of this habit became Astarion's hair.
To be fair, he didn't seem particularly bothered by it)

Lore snippets:
I've been meaning to draw Maeth and Orin again for a while and I think, while Maeth was completely blinded by his hatred for her, because of the fact she attempted to end his life, he'd come to realize later on that they weren't so different from one another afterall.
Lore snippets because I got lost on thoughts, and thinking about how Maeth may feel about Orin later on post BG3 events was interesting to me hehe
Worked on her carriage a little further
