   ❝ Um- Is  there  something  on  my  face ? ❞ Oscar  looks  questioningly  onward  at  the  girl , hands  come  up  to  wipe  away  at  his  cheeks . Obviously  there  was  nothing  there , and  Oscar  knew   this , but  anything  was  better  than acknowledging  the  truth . He  had  left  his  friends , had  made  them  worry , even  though  that  wasn’t  his  intention . All  he  knew  that  he  needed  to  stop  James - Ironwood  before  he  made  a  horrible  mistake . But  he’d  failed  in  the  mission  twice , and  had  left  his  team  and  friends  worried  sick . ( At  least  he  knew  he  really  mattered . )

   ❝ I  uh- I  know  I’ve  gone  for  a  while ... But  the  staring  is  kinda  embarrassing . ❞ He  twiddles  his  thumbs  around  nervously , subconsciously  wondering  when  he’d  picked  up  that  tick. There’s  no  time  to  really  think  with  the  boy  being  so  hyper  aware  of  her  stare , practically  shrinking  under  it . He  wants  to  apologize , to  explain  himself  like  he  had  done  to  team  JNR  when  they  found  him . But  even  that  hadn’t  gone  so  well , and  he  didn’t  want  Ruby  to  hate  him , like everyone  seemed  to  right  now .

   ❝ Oh - Nora , It’s  you .❞  Familiar  orange  hair  falls  into  his  peripheral  vision , and  then  hesitant  green  eyes  meet  blue  ones . Though , for  a  split  moment , the  boy  could  swear  they  were  just  like  hers . But  that  couldn't  be  the  case , this  WAS  Nora , It  couldn’t  possibly  be  Neapolitan , and  yet  he  still  wasn’t  positive . She  would  have  to  speak  to  him  to  know , and  surely  she  would , why  else  would  she  seek  him  out ?  ( To  stab  him  with  an  umbrella )

  ❝ I’m  just  doing  some  patching  up... Don’t  wanna  bleed  on  the  sheets  while  my  Aura  is  recovering . ❞  Oscar  elaborates  to  the  young  woman , sparking  conversation  that  he  wanted  to  fill  the  silence  so  badly . Even  if  he  felt  like  a  bad  friend  for  wanting  this  scape  goat , for  not  being  able  to  tell  the  different , he  did  it  anyway . He  could  not  let  his  guard  down  off  appearance  alone , that  psycho  lady  had  done  more  than  teach  him  how  deadly  that  was .

   Oscar  is  surprised  to  say  the  least  when  he  hears  Ren’s  usual  docile  tones  stretch  to  match  utter  fear . It’s  too  unlike  him , it  makes  Oscar  feel  as  though  maybe  he  is  acting  too  rash , maybe  he  isn’t  being  helpful . But  he  has  to  steel  himself  from  those  thoughts , he  was  anything  but  a  quitter  at  this  point . Failure  may  have  stained  deep  into  his  heart  with  the  loss  of  the  lamp , but  he  would  not  fail  his  team  twice .

   Though  maybe  he  does  deserve  a  response  at  the  very  least , maybe  he  could  even  convince  Ren  not  to  worry . ( He  was  just  the  farmhand , after  all. ) With  that  thought  in  mind , Oscar  slows  his  pace  to  find  himself  a  place  to  hide  from  the  many  soldiers  patrolling . This  small  rest  was  earned , surely , he’d  been  running  on  fumes  for  so  long  he  didn’t  even  know  if  he  could  get  back  up . It’s  not  the  boy’s  focus  though , right  now  Ren  is  expecting  an  answer .

   ❝  I’m  sorry , Ren ... But you were right , I  failed  you  all , I  lost  the  only  advantage  we  had . ❞  Pangs  of  guilt  and  frustration  corner  his  heart , flashes  of  Nora’s  innocent  and  familiar  face  twisted  by  the  expressions  of  a  mad  woman . Ren  was  right , but  he  was  also  wrong - they  were  ready  to  be  hunters , Oscar  though , was  another  story  all  together .  ❝ I  have  to  make  things  right , I  have  to  do  the  right  thing ... I  cannot  let  fear  be  my  excuse  anymore .❞

beacon fell, almost everything fell apart on that fateful day. she failed to protect beacon, failed to fulfill in her task. she survived, but with a heavy heart, a burden, a sense of guilt that grew on her shoulders each passing day. while she couldn’t win, she knew she was the only one who could try— taking that responsibility alone.

it took a few days, but she set out to look for her team. after it all went down, they were the only people she could think about. her family, whom she almost left. questions plagued her mind: whether they knew she survived, or if they were upset with her. yet she traveled, following any semblance of where they could have gone. and finally: she found him.

     ❝ jaune … ❞

she never thought she’d be able to say that name again. and while he stood before her, she couldn’t dare meet his gaze. he tried to stop her. she couldn’t imagine the look on his face, how he felt— but a pain grows beneath her chest, tears rising to her eyes as she struggles to even speak.

     ❝ i-i'm— i’m sorry, jaune. ❞

   Jaune  is , of  course , up  at  some  ungodly  hour  of  night  with  the  hilt  of  his  sword  held  unbearably  tight  in  his  hand . He  is  practicing , always  practicing , because  he  can  never  be  as  weak  as  he  was  that  night . So - He  waits  for  her  voice  to  guide  him , and  he  swings , and  once  more , and  for  a  final  time , the  sword  cuts  through  the  air . With  that ,  Jaune  finally  considers  his  training  over , so  he  moves  automatically  to  the  scroll  propped  up  on  a  lone  stump  to  turn  it off .

   With  the  scroll secured  safely  in  his  pocket , and  his  equipment  stored  on  his  back , he  begins  to  head  back  to  his  team . But - Then  he  hears  it , that  voice  he  had  longed  to  hear  since  the  fall  of  beacon , the  one  he  thought  he  would  never  hear  without  a  digital  tinge  again . He  can’t  believe  it , maybe  his  mind  is  starting  to  go , and  so  to  ease  his  emotions , he  spins  around  to  meet  what  he  assumes  to  be  nobody . Red  hair  and  teary  eyes  meet his , and  he  can  safely  say  that  he  has  not  gone  insane , not  even  his  own  head  could  do  this .

   ❝  P-Pyrrha... Is  that - is  that  really  you ?! ❞

   His  disbelief  is  apparent  in  his  features , the  pure  shock  in  his  eyes , and  the  question  that  rolls  off  his  tongue  so  hesitantly . Even  though  he  asks  the  question , he  doesn’t  think  words  will  be  enough  for  him  to  accept  it . After  all - Pyrrha  Nikos  had  been  dead  since  the  fall  of  beacon , it  had  been  confirmed  by  Professor Goodwitch herself ! There  was  just  no  way  it  was  really  her , and  yet  he  could  feel  his  whole  being  telling  him  it  was .

   So  to  confirm , he  takes  slow  and  hesitant  steps  towards  the  girl , the  one  that  had  kissed  him  so  tenderly . The  girl  who  had  single-handedly  stole  his  heart , only  to  disappear  with  it  minutes  later . The  girl  he  and  his  team  had  mourned , hell - still mourned  with  all  they  could . She  had  been  the  one  to  break  Jaune  Arc , the  one  to  truly  show  him  the cruelty  of  the  world . But  when  his  hands  reach  so  longingly  to  her’s , and  he  feels  the  warmth  he  had  almost  forgotten, he  starts  to  revise  just  how  cruel  he  thought  the  world  was .

    ❝  It’s... It’s  really you , right ? Please  don’t  let  this  be  a cruel  joke... ❞

   Tears  fill  the  young  mans  eyes  that  pool  ready  to  fall  down  his  face , and  cracks in his voice  plague  every  word  as  he  tries  to  get  them out . He  desperately  grabs  at  her , deciding  her  hand  was  no  longer  enough  to  keep  him  from  falling  back  into  the darkness. Arms  wrap  around  the  small  of  her  back , and  he  selfishly  pulls  her  closer  to  himself , determined  to  feel  more  of  her  warmth .

    ❝  We  all  thought  we  had  lost  you ... ❞

   ❝  Hey !? Would  you  put  me  the  hell  down , ‘ya  damn  brat ! ❞

   Qrow  can’t  help  the  grunt  that  escapes  him  when  the  girl  unceremoniously  throws  him  over  her  shoulder  like  dead  weight . She  really  was  too  strong  for  her  own  good , or  at  least  she  seemed  that  way  when  she  held  him  in  place  with  such  force . Qrow  did  like  his  peace , however , he  couldn’t  help  but  feel  a  swell  of  joy  in  his  heart  at  the  idea  of  someone  caring  enough  to  seek  him  out . So  while  she  had  more  than  annoyed  him  in  this  act  of  authority ,  he  would  let  her  win  just  this  one  time .

 ❝  Alright , alright  already ... Would  you  let  me  down ? I  promise  I’ll  behave . ❞
