The Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository is live!
You can find it at: https://www.animal-photo-references.com!
Here's how this repository works: all photos were taken by me, a human, at zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and other facilities with animals in human care. There is no AI involved in the photo editing or creation and there never will be. Right now there's 56 species on the site; my catalog has over 300 and I will be uploading the rest of them as fast as I can.
Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use these references. Yes, even for work you're going to sell.
All other usage/reproduction requires permission, but assume I'm friendly and please do ask! That's educators, researchers, the media, people who need images for a school presentation, etc. This is just to retain copyright/control in case they're scraped/reused unethically - it doesn't meant I don't want folk to have access! So please do reach out via the contact form on the repository website, I don't bite and I'm most likely going to say yes.
Please don't repost the repository photos to your own blogs: I've created @animalphotorefs as a dedicated blog to share photos from the site, and of course I'll reblog a lot of it here! That again just helps with retaining copyright and sourcing of the images. If you really want to repost some for a specific purpose, please just ask me first!
Also, folks, this project has no funding. It's just me and my camera.
There will never be a paywall on the site - I believe resources like this absolutely must be free for everyone to access. So please, please, please support the repository if you use it. Want sneak peeks at photos, cute videos I take, or to help choose what I photograph and what gets posted first? You can do that through Patreon (and there's a free trial on the most interactive tier!) If you'd like to just drop a tip, I've also set up a Ko-Fi.
I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of the repository.
To whet your thirst for cute photos, here's an Indian rhinoceros contemplating a goose.
little Muuka sketch <3
i dont consider myself a 'fashion guru' by any means but one thing i will say is guys you dont need to know the specific brand an item you like is - you need to know what the item is called. very rarely does a brand matter, but knowing that pair of pants is called 'cargo' vs 'boot cut' or the names of dress styles is going to help you find clothes you like WAAAYYYY faster than brand shopping
this also goes for aesthetic or -core titles. 'y2k tank top' is going to get you resellers and fast fashion brands advertising to people looking to meet a current trend. 'thin strap crop tank top' is going to get you a diverse group of results and not upcharge you to hell and back
additionally, shop second hand when you can, second hand and thrift sites typically organize clothes by the cut and color. theyll be more affordable than a depop seller curating you a style to sell you
useful terminology for different kinds of clothing shapes :)
a colored sketchy sorta thang of Muuka :3 his arm scar is actually shown on the wrong arm, it should be on his left, but i wanted it to be visible!
i drew jirachi today!
aaaand here's a few doodles of Jacinté!! plus how each sibling writes their name, and a little snapshot of Ximena's sanrio videos.
Ximena got their dad's tan skin but their mom's hair and eyes, but Jaci is the exact opposite, with dad's hair and eyes. Mena is 20 and Jaci is 17!!
if y'all prommy to ignore the rushed sketchy hands then you can have this sweet lil horseshoe babe
gonna take a page outta one of my fav blogger's books and rb my own art a good few times with info about it teehee
she doesn't have a name just yet but she uses she/it and is a hispanic american pretty princess who loves screamo type music and sanrio. she posts vids online of her sanrio plushies performing ptv songs with lyrics in english and spanish and almost way too many sparkle effects
also she's queer but has dated folks of mutliple genders
i've been finding it helpful to look up how and where bones work and scribble those in to figure out anatomy, i'm almost tempted to scrap the rest of this idea and cut it here before i ruin the rest of it ;w;
@duskythesomething drew us as some Lil Guys and i knew i just had to draw these designs asap because theyre sooo cute <333 thats us!!!
drew myself and my beloved mutual travvy @officialgleamstar as our critters of choice!! outfits are from my fav selfie of theirs and my own fav outfit of all time!
did y'all know there's a type of nudibranch called the dusky nembrotha? :O
for his birthday this week, i bought boyfriend and i kuriboh plushies! i decided to draw them in love like a little sticker <3
Collection of images and memes for anyone who doesnât know what to draw
Compiled some basic information I know about drawing fat characters for beginners since I've been seeing more talk about absence of really basic traits in a lot of art lately.
Morpho Fat and Skin Folds on Archive.org (for free!)
I also wanna point out that your character being fat doesnât mean they donât have a skeleton inside them! Clavicles may be softened, but they are still there. Joints will be padded with fat, but they will still be there And can even be bony. My point being - most fat folks who arenât pretty flexible cannot sit in some positions because their bones donât just bend around their fat and muscle. If a skeleton cannot bend that way, neither can fat folk. This seems really obvious but Iâm dead serious, Use that to inform you of what poses are physically possible for your fat characters.
Also, for those who write comic panels or tell stories with fat characters - fat is insulating, and is used by the body to regulate temperature. A fat character will take much longer to feel the cold, and it will take them longer to warm their skin back up completely to the touch without warm water or other outside source of heat. Along the same line, Someone who is fat will take longer to cool down from something like heatstroke or heat exhaustion, and their skin will likely turn redder and feel hotter for longer when theyâre overheated.
