'Lo there lads an' lassies!
Always nice t' see some new faces 'round 'ere!
//Made myself into a young she-dwarf! Added the original photo for comparison. Enlarged my nose, lips and ears a wee bit, gave myself some thicker brows, and of course, added a beard! Topped it off with a wee bit of colour correction, and there we have it. Me as a dwarf!
This is what I do when I’m bored. X3
//From my Gimli blog, I actually loosely based this beard design off of my preliminary drawings for Birna.

“Oi! She-bear!” Málda called to the dwarf-woman, a wide grin spreading across her face. “Looks like ya finally woke up fr’m hibernation!” she chuckled, striding over to her and clapping her on the shoulder in greeting. “How d’ya fare, Birna?”
Birna spun around, her braids whipping through the air. Such a familiar voice... it could only be... "Malda!" She exclaimed as a hand met her shoulder, now face-to-face with her dear friend.
She slung a strong arm around the other dwarfs shoulder, smiling. "Contrary t' popular belief, I don' spend all me time sleepin'," she chuckled, "but I'm well, friend! An' yerself? Keepin' out o' trouble? I doubt it, but I have t' ask!"
“That much, I could tell.” Despite the blade’s well taken care of condition, it was very obviously battle-worn. While not being able to give insight as to the capabilities of the bearer, a well-worn sword indicated much use over the years. Though the lass had a look about her that alluded to a warrior, if not just a trained swordsman. And one was unwise to boast of their skill when they truly had none. If a she-dwarf had no skill in fighting, you would know it.
Idly looking around, Thorin found that not many were out and about. It was around mid-day, when others would be busy feasting and resting before going back to work.
“I hope I have not kept you from any obligations.”
Looking up toward the midday sun, she sighed with hands placed firmly on her hips before bringing her attention back to Thorin.
"Ah, nay. I've just stretched a mass o' hides, an' well... it's no fun watching leather dry." She chuckled. "I've found m'self left with a bit of a break, it seems, though I coul' go fer a pint."
The last bit was a bit of an afterthought, though it was certainly true. Birna wasn't one to pass up a drink, among other things.
"Bu' surely Thorin Oakenshield has a day full o' duties ahead of 'im."
You are worth every word of love. Worth every good deed, worth every smile, every tear of joy. You are worth the suns rays and the warm air, you are worth the happiness and the laughter. You are worth everything good and beautiful. Give everyone and anyone this message, go to random blogs, someone you don’t even know, stretch your ask limit, anon or not, tell them they are worth it. Because the world needs more love!
OH MY GOD!How come I saw this gif so often and never realized the MEANING OF IT?!?!?
Guys, don’t you see that? There’s someone (!) holding up Gloin’s picture of his wife (a someone with beautiful hands …). You see Gloin himself covered with spider webs and some other pair of (beautiful) hands handling the dwarves in the background.
I DARE SAY this someone is our dear Legolas! Because …
COULD THIS BE the scene described in my The Hobbit Weta Workshop Chronicles where Legolas’ takes Gloin’s picture and asks who this ugly creature is? COULD THIS BE the first glimpse we get from the dwarves being captured in Mirkwood?
OMG. Can’t. breathe. right. now.
COULD THIS BE?
IT HAS TO.

“I wasn’t very old. Barely had my first real beard, but m’ brother was far younger. I ran through to get him out. It was…. It was a bad time.” Nori shook his head, concentrating on his job. He had seen so many die that day, far too much for a young lad like he had been to see. It didn’t matter though. Those days were long gone, and the things that had happened at the mountain did no phase him anymore. Except for his dreams.
Birna nodded. "Aye, me da' told me o' those days. An' of the days before, when Erebor prospered. T' see it with me own eyes..." She trailed off as she tossed another log onto the fire.
Satisfied with it, she turned to her pack, finding an iron spit to roast the rabbits on. "Oh, an' mind the pelts. I've plans t' make things from those." Of course, she wasn't really too concerned, as Nori was doing a particularly fine job at skinning the lot.
It was very apparent in the blade’s design that what she said of her father was true. Only a crafter of cooking knives would make a blade such as this, focused to a very useful purpose. It was not overly extravagant, nor was it very plain. Perfectly balanced just as well, which Thorin found as he held the blade in hand. Swinging it lightly from side to side, getting a feel of its movement, a small smile tilted the edges of his lips upward. The wielder of this sword would benefit greatly from it.
Thorin’s eyes locked on to the lass before him, “This is truly a fine sword.” Flipping it so that he handed it back to her with the hilt pointing towards her body, Thorin bowed his head. “It will serve you well, lass, so long as you use it wisely. Can I assume that you are very skilled in its use?”
She observed the way Thorin looked at the sword, akin to the way her father had once looked at his knives; with admiration for every detail. She could appreciate that, as the very look in Thorin's eyes told her that he could tell the ins and outs of the blade with just a glance and a touch. Birna couldn't help but feel a little more calm about him holding her sword.
When he returned it to her, she smiled gratefully. "I thank ye," she nodded, "An' I should hope so. It's served me well o'er the years, an' I'm still alive, am I not?" Sheathing the sword she laughed. Aye, if there were one sword she could boast about her skill with, it would be this one.
dwarvenshebear crossed the river
Sull hadn’t seen many Dwarves, let alone female ones. Sull was rather curious, especially by the fact that they had beards, too. She realized she was staring, and her eyes went down to her feet and she blushed a cherry red. “H’lo, Miss.” She mumbled, still blushing.
Birna had noticed the hobbit staring, and she had tried to make nothing of it but simple curiosity. Until the hobbit spoke.
Fair enough, she thought. She had the time to spare to say hello.
"Hello, lass." She replied, kindly but with a hint of firmness. Such was Birna's tone, and many thought her to be rude because of it, but no. Any willing to give her the chance might find her quite agreeable, though a little blunt.
With practiced ease, he was skinning the rabbits quickly and thoroughly. It had been a while since he had had a meal with another person, and it was strange. In a nice way though. He shrugged as he laid the first rabbit on a stone next to the fire.
“I was a miner. Family was from Erebor. Now I’m more of the adventurin’ type. And yerself lass? What about ye?”
"Me family, too was from Erebor," she began, "Well, so was I, bu' I was far too young t' remember it. I was but a wee babe when all th' business with Smaug came about. Amazed I lived through tha', really." Her eyes never strayed from the fire she was tending to. It was because of that dragon her father had died. Not immediately, no, but over many years he suffered until he had gone mad. Stricken by a shock that haunted his dreams and stole his hope, until finally he met his end. He had done so dishonorably, but Birna could not find any part of her heart that would hate him for it. He had been a good father, despite his troubled mind, and she knew that now he had his peace.
