when i first got diagnosed with ADHD in middle school, my shrink told me that about 50% of the time he diagnoses a kid with ADHD and prescribes them stimulants, their dad comes in to the next appointment and asks to speak with him privately, and says some variation of "yeah so i was looking into ADHD more since you diagnosed my kid and it seems like it's genetic, and, well, i've always felt a little scatterbrained, and this diagnosis has recontextualized a lot of those feelings, and," and then he interrupts them to ask how much of their kid's Ritalin they took and the answer is usually "two of them"
