thinking so much about the actual logistics of william’s death. like, surely he’s not actually legally dead — nobody knows he’s dead, other than mike and vanessa and, somehow, michael. his body’s in the suit in freddy’s, and is still there at the end of the second movie; nobody else ever found it, so technically there’s no body. william afton has been missing for years, steve raglan has been missing for months. no leads, no real search.
no inheritance. michael with no access to his father’s fortune or assets. has to break into his father’s workshops and office, forge documents, steal to survive. he’s only not living in the dark because the bills are paid automatically, but he’s had to forge his father’s signature on letters, imitate his voice over the phone.
no closure. vanessa’s skin crawls every time she checks her mail or the phone rings, wondering if this time it’ll be someone ‘informing’ her of her father’s death. sometimes she can only wonder if he’s really dead at all.
