You're Too Pretty to Die | Dylan & Vera (closed)
It was a busy night for Fangtopia. Hundreds of bodies crammed together in the bar, fangbangers and vampires alike, desperate for something or other, whether it was blood or the thrill of a vampireâs company. They were so busy and the blood lust amongst the vampires was so high that they were going through TruBlood like there was a shortage of the stuff and Fangtopia was the only place that still had some in stock. It was nights like these that made Kol and Vera rich owners and nights like these that kept Vera in a good mood, despite the utter bore Oxford was.Â
Clearing a path between the writhing bodies on the dance floor with just a look, Vera navigated the crowded bar, making her way towards the back entrance. They were just about out of TruBlood at the bar, and seeing as she and Kol were the only ones with keys to the store room in the alley out back, Vera was tasked with the job of retrieving more of the substance for the bar.Â
Clad in her favorite, thigh-high, black, leather boots, Vera exited the bar and was just about to turn the corner into the alley when she heard a gunshot go off. And a very near one at that. Curiosity piqued, considering something might actually be going on in this godforsaken town, Vera walked forward into the entryway to the alley, her arms crossed over her chest. Several yards towards the other end of the alley, stood two men, presumably one of whom had shot the gun she head heard just a second ago. Seeing as both of them were still standing, Vera supposed that their victim had fallen to the ground in front of them. âNot a very smart move, gentlemen.â she called towards their backs, a smirk on her lips as she shook her head at their stupidity. âShooting someone so close to town? Someone might stumble upon you.â she added, cocking a brow at them.Â
At the sound of her voice, the two men whirled around to face her. But when they saw that it was simply a woman, by herself, they both let out a snicker. âSo what if someone stumbles upon us?â the taller one jeered as they both simultaneously started to approach Vera. âYeah, what could someone do to us?â the shorter and definitely chubbier of the pair, added. Vera could have laughed at the age-old stereotype that a woman was nothing to be afraid of, if she wasnât a little perturbed. In a flash, she her two hands wrapped around each of their throats, pinning them to the wall behind them, their feet dangling as she lifted them off the ground. With a smirk, her fangs exposed themselves and she snarled at the two men. âOh believe me, you donât want to know what all I could do to you.â she growled. She hold them there, suspended in the air for at least a minute, making sure they were both terrified before she threw them to the ground. âGet out of my sight.â she spat and the men gladly obliged, tearing their way out of the alley and into the street as fast as they could.Â
Vera straightened her outfit and brushed back a fallen strand of her long brown hair, before turning back to the task at hand. She had almost completely forgotten about the body of the victim the two men had shot until she nearly tripped over its leg extending out into the alley. Vera looked down at the body and could immediately smell the blood that was spilling out on to the cold pavement from the gun wound. It had been so long since she had tasted real blood and this blood smelled so delicious, it made her mouth water. Normally, Vera much preferred her victim to be alive, but maybe this one had been shot so recently the blood was still warm.Â
Kneeling down beside the man, her fangs exposed. Yes, the blood still smelled warm. She was just about to tilt his head to the side to expose his neck, when he stirred.Â
Dylan was off-duty when it happened. Walking to his car, groceries in hand, Dylanâs werewolf ears picked up on suspicious shouting from the bank across the street. Dropping the bags, he hurried across the street and slipped in the side door. The bank was in the process of being robbed, but fortunately though they were armed and Dylan was not, he was a werewolf and they were only human, leveling the playing field a bit. âPolice!â Growled Dylan as he came upon the closest robber, slamming him against the wall before they had time to react. The man went out cold. âShit!â Shouted the other two, dropping what theyâd taken and making a run for it. Dylan gave pursuit. Once upon a time, heâd been a man of action like this - chasing down the bad guys, stopping them by whatever means necessary. Returning to Oxford had put a stop to that for the most part: the only real âthreatâ to society was the profound weirdness and chaos caused by the Belfront extended family. Despite their flaws, the Belfronts were essentially harmless. It felt good to be stretching his legs again, to be making an actual difference. He was a werewolf. He was gaining on them. The blast cracked in the dry air. It was still ringing in his ears when Dylan dropped, legs buckling beneath him in the alley. His heart felt dull and empty and red where it had been struck. âIâm going to die here,â he thought. âIâll bleed out in this alleyway, just like Jackson.â The idea seemed distance, a bizarre, removed mind speaking into the void while Dylan collapsed in on darkness. He couldnât have said how long it had been - but it wasnât till he felt something: a dull thump against his leg that he found something concrete to crawl back towards. He fought to open his mouth and speak or his eyes and see, but even as the part of him that was werewolf woke to warn him a vampire was close, the thing in him that was human whispered, âCome closer.â
Non-Girlfriend House Wife || Gaige & Dylan (closed)
Dylan should have given her a house key. Seriously though, at this point sheâd broken into his house more times than she could count. It was rather easy when she could shift into anything she wanted (including say⌠a fly) that was small enough to fit through vents and into the house. Then all she had to do was unlock the door from the inside, grab her clothes (and normally the food sheâd brought with her) and go about her life.
Today was one of the days sheâd brought food. She had talked to Dylan a couple times through the week and heâd told her itâd been a stressful week, lots of hooligans. She briefly wondered if the Belfronts were up to trouble again; but then decided that it wasnât really her problem. Not anymore at least.
Pulling her clothes back on and making sure she still looked rather presentable, she went back to Dylanâs kitchen and began cooking. His being a werewolf and her being a shifter meant they ate more than a normal couple would. Couple being the operative word. They werenât a couple - and hadnât been in a long time - but they still acted like it a lot of the time. Minus the making out and the sex, they were pretty much the same as theyâd always been. Gaige knew it shouldnât be that way. He had technically cheated on her, for Christâs sake.
But that was Gaigeâs way. She forgave but didnât forget⌠She knew she probably wouldnât ever forget that feeling.Â
The food was all but done and on the table when she heard the door open again. âHey!â she called out, knowing heâd probably smelled her (and the food) from the driveway. She bounced out of the kitchen, her iphone playing some music from her back pocket. Gaige went right up to him and placed a kiss on his cheek and smiled that ridiculously bright smile of hers up at him, âI figured you could use a good meal after a long week. And I knew you were off tomorrow, so you could sleep off this food coma youâre inevitably going to be in.â
As Dylan checked out of work that day, he knew he'd never needed his day off more. War was brewing, Jackson was on the wrong side...and every damn day he went into work he had to watch Tea and Caden together or, even if he wasn't there, his family had a way of turning up in jail and, inevitably, the subject would one up. Dylan had always hoped she'd move on, be happy...but he hadn't planned on being there to see it and he certainly hadn't meant it to be a werewolf. Hadn't that been the whole point of staying away from her, of ignoring his own feelings and hers? Pulling down the drive was a relief. Long ago, Dylan had bought himself a little house on the outskirts of town. It was a bit of a fixer upper but over the course of time he'd been able to exact the necessary repairs. That being said, it was most definitely a bachelor pad in every respect but naturally that had never bothered Dylan much. A smile creased his lips as Gaige's familiar scent wafted to him and his stomach rumbled at the scent of what she brought with her. When he finally reached the house - seemingly an eternity later - he shrugged off his jacket and walked up to her. A part of him felt a tinge of guilt: he really should've married this girl, if he were smart. But Dylan Morehead has never been known for his smarts. "Boy did I luck out," commented Dylan as she bounded up to kiss his cheek. "Food coma's sounded about ideal." Walking over to the table, he breathed in of the delightful aroma and turning to her with a grin, said, "So what's for dinner?"

Kill the Beast | Dylan & Jackson
The days of childhood were a distant memory, vague and floating as if an idea from another man's memory. Dylan could hardly distinguish the rivulets of dreams from the oceans of memories, but he had remembered Jackson as a friend. Dylan had always been friendly with humans (afterall, the Belfronts weren't the only wolf family with humans in it: his own bloodline had brought Harley Keventry to life). He also considered it to be one of the duties of werewolves: to look out for and help the weaklings survive, to protect them from the other supernatural species who preyed upon them. But beyond that, he'd always liked and respected Jackson for who he was. The one thing he absolutely could not abide, however, were vampires. In fact, he had spent years hunting, fighting, and slaying the undead...all the awhile unaware that his once close friend had become a fanger. He was soon to discover the truth for himself. The day had turned cold as autumn swept through Oxford with teeth. Leaves in red and gold fluttered through the air and settled on the pavement beneath his feet as he walked home. Dylan had always found this particular stroll to be relaxing after a particularly stressful day on the job. Oh, Dylan loved his car, there could be no doubt, but there were days when getting the blood flowing was something he needed...particularly when those days included a certain brunette officer of the law. Dylan had very clearly screwed that up in all possible ways and he knew it - the problem was he felt it was necessary in order to keep her safe. Dylan had always believed he was a harbinger of doom in some way. He wanted to protect Teagan from the creatures: from the vamps, the weres...but most of all, from himself. Strolling down the avenue, he was deep in thought until the scent of vampire struck his sensitive nose. Stopping where he stood, his green eyes scanned his surroundings with a hawkish awareness, his fists tightening at his sides. It distressed him how many vampires had surged into Oxford, lately, and he was in no temper to deal with that, now. Eyes narrowing, his hand slid slowly towards the stake he carried in his deep blue jacket. It was close. As he followed the scent with his eyes, they flicked forward...as a familiar form emerged from the darkness. "Jackson?"

Amnesia || Teagan & Dylan (closed)
A blush touched Teaganâs cheeks as he congratulated her. The way she viewed it, this was her job. There was no need for any undeserved praise when she was just doing her job. But, coming from Dylan⌠Sheâd take it any day. Wasnât every day that the man youâd been in love with for years (who didnât love you back, or not in that way) complimented you. She could still recall easily the feeling that had flooded through her from the way heâd looked at her at the ball. It brought goosebumps to her skin thinking about it, so she dismissed it.
"No, I didnât," she shook her head, "I just, thought youâd say no to me.â Her eyes turned away from him. Her voice had been soft and calm, but the meaning (and the rest of the sentence) hung in the air between them. Sheâd spent so long lingering over his rejection that it was all she thought about when she saw him, all she expected. She was really working on remembering that theyâd been friends once. They could be friends again. Right?
She cleared her throat to break the dark, tense silence that lingered over them, âI could go on to the bar, grab us some seats and order us up a round?â Her dark eyes turned up to meet the brilliant green of his. Focus, she told herself, Remember the good not the bad. She could easily remember all the good theyâd been through. What worried her was⌠Would it ever be the good she remembered first? Because still to this day, her mind first went to the look on his face as heâd told her no. No, no no no no.
Dylan's brows constricted over his green eyes. Swallowing, he glanced away for a moment, his tongue wetting his lips. He'd racked his mind, searching for some answer to the mad quandry in which they'd found themselves. Turning back to her, slowly, his smile was sad. "C'mon, Tea," he began, his voice low but kind. "Don't do that." He could see her closing in around herself, blocking him out. Someday, maybe he could explain...but that struck him as just a pipe dream. He no longer knew how to make her smile. There was a time when it had come as second nature, a reaction that was born out of the flow of their very relationship, but now all of that had collapsed in on itself and Dylan got the distinct impression that any word out of his mouth was more likely to bring tears to her eyes than a smile to her lips. He didn't know how to turn back the clock. The corridor was empty and Dylan shifted as he slowly exhaled. "I'm no good with words," he began. "You already know that. But let me just...I never wanted to see you unhappy, ever. You deserve the best in life, Tea. Don't go there, don't do that to yourself. I've never denied you anything with the intention of being cruel. You...you know that, right? I never wanted it to be like this." Dylan leaned back against the wall behind him, his mind roving over solutions - any solution, even temporary ones. "Look, uh," he passed a hand over his mouth. "If it's easier, I don't have to go...I want you to have a good time tonight, Tea. You deserve that."
"You donât have to protect me, Iâm not afraid! Please donât shut me out again! Please donât slam the door, you donât have to keep your distance anymore! You donât have to live in fear. Cause for the first time in forever, I will be right here."
