CSW Memo
While at the Celebration of Student Writing our class was instructed to interview another person about their presentation. While I was walking around the CSW and observing other people's presentations I came to one presentation that was different from the others I saw. It was a project about Facebook and its influence on people buying things. This project consisted of a poster board that gave information about Facebook and had the results of the survey that went with it.
The survey focused on questions about Facebook and how one is influenced to buy things based on Facebook. Some of these questions were “Do you often buy things you see on Facebook?” or “Do you feel more attached to an item you 'liked' on Facebook?” There were also a few questions that did not focus on Facebook. One of these was “Do you have a favorite brand?” All of these questions were on a scale of 1-5 where higher numbers mean a more likelihood of Facebook having an influence on a person's buying habits. At the end of the survey, the numbers were added up and compared to a scale which said how likely someone is to buy something they see on Facebook.
Before taking the test, I thought I would get a low score because I barely use Facebook and I barely buy anything online. So as I went through the test I noticed I had low numbers for most of the questions and only 1 4 point question and 0 5 point questions. At the end of the survey my total was 15 which meant that Facebook has little effect on what products I buy.
This project was very interesting and interactive. This Facebook project also showed me how influential Facebook is to some people. This just shows how much influence social media has on people.
