whenever ppl compare sasuke's actions with other traumatized characters situations all like "see, they didn't go crazy and do all that" i'm just like baby you can't compare the trailblazer to a bootlicker 😭☠️ i'm srry like...the difference between them and my goat is that (before they nerfed him and his ideals) sasuke actually couldn't reckon with and rationalize the shit the state wanted him to be down with, which is simply just a NORMAL response btw. especially considering what they did to him was literally genocide his people. if y'all still wanna do the trauma off im sure that takes the cake
Yeah running water is cool but uuh. You do know that if you use it to pour enough water into a container you can put your head in it and drown and DIE??? Yeah this is crazy and evil and sad. What if a kid does that. This is why I propose the idea to make it so people pay 200000$ every time they use the sink!!! This is because no child has that much money so they are physically unable to harm themselves <3 Wdym this is insane and we shouldn't be paying 200000$ just to get a glass of water. There are no ulterior motives. No it's not about taking your money. This is for child safety. Don't you want children to be safe??? You evil sicko freak. What's wrong with you for thinking this is wrong and won't work.
sasuke was so abandoned by damn near everyone and just expected to be a perfect puppet for whatever agenda konoha had, simply because of his prowess and power, when it should've been apparent to anyone that his mind would obviously be fraying apart and fragile from what he suffered at such a young age at the hands of the state and his brother. like you bitches KNEW and just expected him to be like... yeah this is fine. almost everyone just wanted him to stfu about his lived reality and just be a good child soldier. my heart breaks for him especially since in the end he was made to believe that all of his anger and pain was cruel, unjustifiable and criminal and just assimilate/phase back into the same system that irreparably harmed him. like y'all BROKE him. it's so cruel. ill never get over it i fear 😭
"this would be so good if it was good" might just be my favourite sentence to use when analysing any media
because it's not a meaningless thing to say
some things will always be mid at best, but sometimes things that suck could be so good, if only they were good
Current least favourite thing about naruto on this rewatch is how Sasuke correctly assesses a threat as being too high for their skill level, tries to tactically retreat, and every time is interrupted by Naruto rushing in like RAWR ARGHHH COWARD! UR A COWARD FOR SAYING WE, 3 FRESHLY MINTED NOT-ALL-THAT-TALENTED ROOKIES, SHOULDNT FIGHT MR. EVIL DEMONFACE➡️👹!!! HOW STRONG COULD EVIL DEMONFACE, KILLER OF THOUSANDS, BE? SURELY IM STRONGER 💪 IM GONNA BE HOKAGE BELIEVE IT 👊🖕🔥
ppl are literally just mad that sasuke had the gall to be a reactive genocide survivor, but y'all will never say it. he wasn't a perfect victim and that's the problem. y'all simply wanted him to be down with the fuckshit and that's it. y'all expected him to roll over and kiss ass. y'all wanted his trauma to affect him as minimally as possible. he could only be traumatised in an acceptable way. everytime i see someone saying he treated ppl badly or whatever the fuck y'all perceive his behaviour as im like...you're shocked the child who survived a literal massacre at the hands of his BROTHER is cold, untrusting, flighty and destructive? wowww 😭 like free my king all he ever did was yearn for a revolution & be a lil moody & bitchy (if that's what you wanna call it)
No offense to Itachi (jk full offense) but if Danzo had told Sasuke to kill his whole clan Sasuke would just have killed Danzo right there and ended the entire storyline prematurely.
I genuinely can't believe when people say Sasuke was too edgy and mean. No. That boy should've been MUCH more mean and edgy. Him telling Sakura she's annoying is nothing, him calling Naruto an loser is also nothing. This boy had his whole clan, which means close AND extended family, killed in one night. By one person that he trusted the most. Already enough to be justified in literally anything you say. And then later on that same brother comes back and tortures you some more. And you end up in coma. You wake up, and your Sensei starts speaking some "revange isn't good" bullshit. Then later on in life, you find out that not only was massacre a government ordered genocide, but they also GROOMED your brother into doing it. And then used him as a scapegoat. So naturally you go and kill that guy who ordered genocide of your clan. You kill his ass, then your old teammates show up, chick that's saying she loves you tries to kill you. Your supposed best friend can't take a hint and leave you alone. Your Sensei is again taking bullshit about "going down the dark path".
And this is not mentioning all the other bullshit my boy had to go trough.
All of this combined, and it's unreasonable that he didn't have even more crash outs. After all this shit he should've been genuinely unhinged and high-key insane.
sasuke: you traumatized me
itachi: but dont you realize how traumatizing it was for ME to traumatize YOU? ungrateful

Sasuke is Nagato!
It's extremely bewildering to me that most readers don't understand the most simple narrative choices to shift a thematic apparatus from one character to the next--indefinitely. As in, all the themes (or a singular theme that carries minor ones) gain new life with the other character; or, to put it simply, continue on with the other character in lieu of dying off; and I ought to make a post on this; however, I'm going to say this:
What's so difficult about understanding that Kishimoto passed all of Nagato's Theme of Revolution (a lost youth locating purpose in vengeance against organized terrorism of the military junta) to Sasuke? Is it a coincidence that what lead to Nagato's shift from Akatsuki, a peace-keeping, albeit toothless, force to a militant one whose sole purpose was to disrupt the junta's peace was the incident in which Konan was utilized as a human shield by Hanzo? That her very life was used as a bargaining price to crush Akatsuki? And when Yahiko hesitated, showed frailty, he had to forfeit his own life to keep the peace? A peace that never lasted? Not till Nagato didn't crush Hanzo, his family, his acquaintances so utterly? Did it not show that you can't trust military establishments that thrive on terrorism, atrocities, and massacres? It was that moment of trust that Yahiko's life would be enough to placate Hanzo. It wasn't.
Did it not show that peace is a futility--the death of justice when militarism and profit from that militarism run the course of these states? That moment--that single moment--ruined everything; and Yahiko paid the price; and Nagato tried to course-correct it, kept his friend in spirit by ruining Hanzo and everything he stood for via the tragedy he'd created. He made him relive that irony. It's a matter of contention, even for me, that Kishimoto meant to show Nagato's trust in Naruto as the same slip like before; but that's the topic for another day; but what he did intentionally was how similar Sasuke's situation was to Nagato's: companions in peril and one taken hostage, a human shield to end Sasuke and his journey and his Clan's along with it.
Where Nagato faltered, nearly died had it not been for Rinnegan's lucky summon (Nagato didn't summon the Spirit Dragon intentionally; and had it not arrived, Hanzo's forces would've slaughtered everyone even after Yahiko's sacrifice), Sasuke did not. He left Suigestu and Jugo behind, utterly relentless to not let Danzo go; and where Yahiko took his own life and nearly condemned their entire struggle to a complete end, Sasuke ran his chidori through Karin, ended Danzo and set his sights on the conflict's heart, Leaf.
And what can be more decisive than the intrinsic association between Danzo and Hanzo? An intimacy between state terrorists? Danzo, with Leaf's blessing, was the one who funded Hanzo to end Akatsuki. That creates an intricate parallel between them, one that is seldom talked about in the fandom. And Kishimoto is quite casual about parallels, which reoccur time and time again; sometimes, they're superficial; other times, they aren't. Granted, the Ame orphans shared more than just brief companionship with each other; they survived through thick and thin; their harmony presents a great contrast to Team Taka's disharmony; and it was that element of disharmony that allowed Sasuke to go through with his decision; remember, where Nagato failed, Sasuke didn't, a choice that was to decide the fate of justice.
And history does repeat itself; and Kishimoto was very blatant about that reality: it repeated here for Danzo, but where Nagato was powerless, Sasuke chose to be bold. We can talk endlessly about the moral implicature of it (I'm perfectly fine with the way Sasuke handled the situation with Karin, and I've talked about that many times, as well); but that doesn't mean that there wasn't an element of repetition that transferred all that was Nagato to Sasuke; and to the surprise of no one, this part is one of my favorites in the manga.
Therefore, yes, Sasuke is Nagato, only bolder.
