Some silly stupid shenanigans that came out of me when playing Octopath Traveler 2
While neither where my starting character, Temenos and Partitio quickly became my favorite duo. (Also yes, in that Throné chapter, you CAN beat up the chained girl being sold into trafficking to interrogate information out of her)
big fan of osvald’s character design. usually scholars are designed very lightweight like “ohh im a great spellcaster but if i lose my magic im Helpless!” meanwhile osvald is built like a double door fridge. he doesn’t need magic to defend himself he just studies it for the love of the game. he will cast spell of His Fist in Your Face
octopath travelers 2 we got:
The rootin tootinest door-to-door salesman in all the west
🔪im ending the cycle of violence one way or another
forgive me father for I have >:3c

Me: Auuuuugh, I really did not like Good Omens Season 3... That ending suuuucked... This is terrible, how will I ever be happy again…. The Fandom: You know, GO3 ended so terribly compared to how wonderful AND happy GO1 was…. How about we just pretend that this is where the story ended and declare all of GO2-3 basically just one middling high-budget fanfic? Me, the world’s biggest ‘Crowley and Aziraphale met as Angels before the fall’ Retcon Hater:
Shades of gray means a Demon doesn’t have to be all Bad, but it also means a character doesn’t have to be all Good to be the Protagonist of the story.
All of this to say, when GO1 already noticeably softened Crowley’s character compared to the Book Version; The most obvious example is underplaying the amount of legitimate, if unorthodox, work he does to spread Sin and Misery to Humanity that he does seriously take pride in…
It was for me an understandable adaptation choice. Crowley and Aziraphale have been upgraded from Ensemble Members to main heroes, the shift from the Cold War Metaphor where Crowley and Aziraphale are agents of Cosmic Imperialism to a Capitalism one where they were corporate cogs means their victimization and sympathetic elements were emphasized over their complicity in the system, and just like, 90’s Detached Cruel Humor isn’t really ‘in’ right now, so maybe it wouldn’t be in good taste to introduce one of our lovable protagonists as ‘he’s the guy who made sure your boss yelled at you today and patted himself on the back for it”.
But as some point throughout GO2 and GO3, TV!Crowley has gotten so much of his Book Counterpart’s rougher edges sanded off and softened and retconned out that he hardly feels like the same character sometimes…
Call me crazy, but I personally think it’s fucked that people have been traumatized by institutions marketed as places of healing/rehabilitation time and time again.
Too soon?
Yes, but I’m still cackling
Going to the library tomorrow to find out if I'm allowed to print hypothetical boobs for the GG copybook I wanna do

I don’t think we ought to normalize or justify bullying as a means to keep people from being annoying — a sentiment that in and of itself could make for a whole article’s worth of conversation — but I do think we should make a habit of politely but directly telling people “hey I didn’t like that”, “that wasn’t funny”, “you are mistaken”, and the like if it’s called for, and more importantly, you should be able to take a “that wasn’t funny” for instance without taking it personally, because protecting a polite harmony where no one can criticize each other, not even politely, is also really, really bad.
