In a stunning display of determination, I finished two things this weekend. Patterns are Stitch Block Cowl from the Purlbee (half sized), in progress for a year, and Saudade by Ysolda Teague, in progress for 3 weeks. (Also only have half the ends woven in the hat shhh)

Knitting help needed

Has anyone ever made the Recoleta pattern, and if so, how does the changeover between the left back collar and yoke work? The pattern asks for an extra WS row that doesn’t make sense to me, because in my mind that puts the yarn on the opposite side from where it’s needed to pick up stitches on the edge of the work. I’ve emailed the creator but we’re heading into the weekend and I’m worried she won’t respond for a while. Help is appreciated!

Hey I’ve made this! Idk if you’ve worked it out yet, but when you end on a WS row on the left back collar, the first row of the yoke starts with working the next RS row of the collar chart, then you start picking up the back sts, then you undo the provisional cast on and work the same chart row as the left collar. So even though you end on a WS row of the collar, you do have to work the next RS row before you pick up stitches, she just puts all the instructions in the first yoke row.

Hope that made sense/you figure it out!

I hope you don’t mind me asking for a little more guidance, because I’m still confused! It was 2 AM when I wrote this so I meant to say “extra RS row”. I’ve completed the right back collar and have moved on to the left back collar (so I picked up the 36 provisional stitches from the very beginning and started to knit from row 1, from your response I’m not sure if that was the right thing to do). I’m getting puzzled at the first RS row of the yoke, which if I’m visualizing it correctly will end on the opposite edge of the work from where I attached my yarn to the provisional cast on, the ‘middle’ of the collar. In retrospect, the piece will probably not look very different no matter what side the 45 stitches are picked up on, I am just super paranoid because I’m pretty new to lace knitting. I really appreciate the help!

If I recall, the yarn end where you take out the provisional cast on will be on the outside of the collar, not on the yoke side where you pick up sts. It just has to do with reversing the collar for the right/left sides and ends up backwards. The construction makes sense sort of, but I totally didn’t get what was happening until at least a few rows into the yoke.

If I recall, the yarn end where you attach for the left collar/take out the provisional cast on does end up on the outside of the collar, not on the yoke side where sts are picked up. It has to do with rotating the collar that makes it backwards. And have fun with that lace. It's pretty but man, you have to pay attention to it

Christmas was a success! On the left is mini galaxies of change lap blanket for gram (beer bottle for scale) and on the right is a Cinder scarf in two colors for mom (I didn't get a finished picture of the scarf but it has fringe!). Both went over great, and though I kind of hated making both of them, (big crochet thing and scarves bleh) it was worth it.

My first sweater! The body is finished and I started the first sleeve. I am completely in love with this pattern, perfect for those who like long, non-memorizable lace repeats. The pattern is Recoleta by Joji Locatelli, with Targhee worsted yarn by Blue Moon fiber arts in 'Deep, Unrelenting Grey'. (It's all lace, even if it looks like cables)

The internet has been kind to me this weekend. One tutorial on how to make an interchangeable needle cable out of weed whacker string, machining screws, 12 gauge plastic coated wire (thanks for the tip, dad) and super glue and I have a cable long enough for a sweater. Pattern is Recolata, knit in Targhee worsted (in 'deep, unrelenting, grey').

So this is happening. I love the colors and the yarn and the pattern. I hate all the ends. Pattern is The Joker and the Thief with a mod to the stripes; it only has 5 colors instead of the 6 the pattern calls for.
