a little late night theremin playing, and an illustration experiment...
Sample of a series of animations I've been working on, using my own images. Everything relates to my chronic pain, to my body being taken over by disease. For years my body has been growing something it should not, a useless new organ that bleeds + eats + destroys, but it also creates, and as much as it takes from me, it also fuels me...
Images of yet another dropped tail. These feel explicit, well I suppose a discarded tail is always explicit but these photos especially, I feel a little like Vaughan, taking pictures of car crash victims from afar for my own gain, crouching in the tall grass, unseen, unheard, the tail wholly unaffected by my presence, dying, bloodied, having just experienced the ultimate release
The blurring of inside and out, the basis of taboo, to break down the barrier, to expose oneself fully to the world… I’m dropping my tail, or something to that effect…

my mouth bow, made from the branch of a rather tall jacaranda tree from my front yard
mouth bows are as ancient as the drum, and have been fount in virtually all communities who used a bow and arrow for hunting. it is strummed up against the players mouth, and the concave of ones mouth amplifies the sound. as one changes the shape of their mouth the sound changes, and as one bends the wooden bow the pitch changes
what I love about this instrument, besides how fun it is to play (+ it really is fun!) is its hidden poetry. Buffy Sainte-Marie talks about how Native North Americans out on the prairies would collect buffalo chips (buffalo shit), and would use it as fuel for their fires. the mouth bow encompasses the exact same concept -- it takes something something used to cause pain and turns it into art, turns it into something that encourages community and connection and creativity
