But what if God is kinder and more merciful than we could ever imagine? Could you let go of the tension in your chest? Could you allow yourself to be imperfect and frail? I think our biggest folly is that we don't realize just how much God loves us unconditionally. If we discovered how much He loves us (as we are), we would drop the performance and feel okay not being okay.

Sometimes the only thing that gets me out of a spiral is knowing that God doesn't set conditions on His love.

Society teaches us that we can't do certain milestones until we're "well", or that we're "failing" if we aren't fully healed, or haven't reached certain expectations others imposed on us without our consent.

But God loves us as we are, even if we are broken, mentally ill loners and nobodies. Society may hate us and not understand us, or they may want us to be "fixed", but God's loving arms are wide and unconditional.

A child who is thankful that God made cats and flowers and prays at night for sweet dreams is so much more holy than I ever will be. A child who prays for a sunny day to play with their friends is the holiness we all yearn for.

May we all be childlike in our faith.
