Man. I haven't watched enough of any of their perspectives to have a good opinion on it, but those transcripts that highlight just how much hunger Shelby cuts from her perspective, and how much bad Drift hides in hers, have me thinking about that happily ever after.

Because feeling a craving and pretending you don't isn't a recipe for staying strong against it. It's a recipe for catastrophically failing to resist it, and then pretending you didn't.

Anyway. Post-canon where Shelby and Drift occasionally mess up and eat people, and Scott, who is trying to convince Abolish he's not up to his old tricks, has to juggle convincing Abolish that no, he didn't kill this guy, really, I promise, and keeping Shelby and Drift calm about it.

It's fun if he's not really interested in changing and is mostly just biding his time, because he still needs to do that.

But it's really fun if he is trying to Be Better. Because how is someone who is better supposed to manage this? What would Shelby say doesn't work if Shelby is freaking out / deep in denial. What would the doctor do? Well the guy is pretty solidly dead dead, so presumably not much...

Anyway. Scott, who as a centuries old vampire can manage the human blood craving even if it's annoying (especially if he, say, seduces people into letting him have a snack when it gets bad). And his fledglings, who can't but are pretending they are.

Drift's perspective in all this could go crazy, incidentally.

Imagine: She's a vampire! a creature of the night! She's immortal, and so she no longer has to be afraid of the worst of humanity. So, as penance for running away from the Orchid Killer, she starts getting involved in solving homicide cases.

And then she picks up on the trail of a serial killer.

And then the serial killer has a distinctly vampiric MO.

(And then, the coincidences start piling up. And eventually, she has to confront the question: why does the trail lead back to her?)

ill be so real the most personally insulting element of "content creator boundaries" as the mcyt sphere conceives of them is the idea that if i watch a fictional series published on youtube dot com and really enjoy it and feel inspired to make fanworks of it, before i am "allowed" to do so i am expected to go to Some Guy's Twitter where they have posted the rules for how to do that.

like. brother. i dont know that guy. they dont know me. i am not interested in knowing them. i am interested in the videos they posted on, again, a different website. to a public audience. this aint about them. so why is the expectation that i go to their fucking. social media account on a site i dont use and look up personal information about them. it's parasocial as hell. not to mention completely unintuitive if you havent been frog boiled by mcyt fan culture long enough to view it as a matter of course.

To be crystal clear on why the reaction to these 'boundaries' is so strong:

Other people caring enough about the art you make to make more things inspired by it is one of the highest honors that can be awarded & most beautiful things about creation and generally being a person.

Trying to control what people make from that inspiration, or making the asinine assumption that the things they make are owed to you, are things you have control over or ownership of, is entitled and offensive– but a common enough mistake.

Threatening to send (and, from what I've heard, actively sending) your mods and adjacent fans out to police and harass people who don't bow to your claims of control—within less than 24 hours of stating your new rules & after claiming you aren't upset with anyone who made shipping content 'when it was allowed'—is actively dangerous.

in light of recent news I feel the need to reiterate that the best solution to all of this bullshit is and will always be a fucking block and dni tag. you cannot realistically moderate and police your entire fandom and attempting to do so only results in hate and harassment campaigns for the people who are just trying to do their own thing in their own spaces. if it makes you uncomfortable, set up a block dni tag and move the fuck on. it really, really is that simple.

Consider:

Fourteen people come to Oakhurst. They soon discover that they are trapped there: some mysterious force holds them, chains them like dogs within a certain proximity to the ruined castle nearby.

This is concerning, yes. But without contact from the outside world, they turn themselves to survival. The days pass, the moon thins and then fills, and soon they have a ramshackle little town, and a budding community.

The nights may be stained an uncanny red. They may be full of monsters. But that is outside the walls. Inside, they are safe. Inside, they have one another.

And then, almost one month after they all arrive, the moon rises above the horizon as a perfect circle.

Of the fourteen people in the town, only twelve are human. Pearl and Ren, though? Pearl and Ren are werewolves.

I think it'd be fun to see what happens with the Pearl-Cleo dynamic. Do we keep the 80 years a thrall thing with Cleo in such a universe? Do we adapt their backstory to being more werewolf-oriented? How would we even adapt it? Werewolves don't really seem to do servants or slaves.

Which means it'd make more sense to keep them as a vampire thrall in danger of dying of old age if they don't get vampire blood or vampirism in the next few weeks. So how does that play with the werewolf curse?

Is it even possible to save Cleo without vampires? Or is Pearl going to have to see Cleo die, and lose another important person to her?

(and Pearl's backstory: Is her family lost because they're werewolves, here? Or are they lost to her because she's a werewolf and she can't go home, or they'll kill her?)

And Ren! How does his attitude towards the supernatural change when he's been a supernatural creature for a good chunk of his life? Did the witch turn him into this? Was it a second curse acquired in another way?

Does he have a self-hatred thing going on with the werewolfism?

Does he even know he's a werewolf? Pearl has to know, she's a trained werewolf hunter. But if Ren, say, enjoys a good drink and has bad associations with the full moon, or if as part of his bad sense of direction doesn't pay much attention to it...

And you know Cleo is shaky on whether she's worth keeping alive in the first place. The price of her life being a terrible curse for twelve more people? And she'd have to be turned to get everyone out anyway, if the same rules still apply.

And Pearl still being so tempted to spread the curse because she wants Cleo to live, and Cleo not really getting why someone would feel that way when she's such a monster.

And yeah! Owen! He and Scott are fully we're gonna have to alter their backstories territory. Maybe he killed a few people for killing his Louis and is on the run from the law, but is still afflicted with his illness.

I imagine Scott being an actual manor lord might not be too egregious a divergence, considering. Maybe he's lost his political status recently on account of a witch (of debatable supernatural ability. He might just be very angry about the whole business)

You could still have her mother 'Acquire' her at a young age, even, and have Cleo never know if her biological parents abandoned her, or adopted her out, or if her mother instead killed them and just found her in the mess left behind after waking from a full moon rampage.

I wonder what her Rules might look like, if they were intended to keep groups of werewolves safe instead?

As for gets weirder: maybe two different werewolf lineages are unstable, a la Pearl mixing werewolf blood and vampire turning
