m.donovan:
“I have no idea if I do. I’m not that good at remembering birthdays, but I’m gonna ask around and see if we can find someone, okay?”
“that sounds like a plan, matt, thank you.”
e.gilbert:
❛ yeah, growing up always sucks unless you’re a kid trying to rebel against your parents. but—you’re not that old, are you? like, vampire old? ❜
“no i’m not vampire old. let’s just say, i’m not exactly twenty five.”
m.donovan:
“So, there is no one else in this town that has a birthday at the same day or so? Maybe you can talk Lydia into combining the two parties and you can just act as if it’s a party thrown for someone else? It’s gonna be hard, but it’s worth a try.”
“do you know anyone with a november 30th birthday we could try to do this with?”
e.gilbert:
❛ why not, if you don’t mind me asking? are you the type of person who doesn’t like to mention their age under any circumstance? ❜
“that would be me. i don’t like letting people in on the secret that is anne herveaux, but at the same time, i like letting people know i hate my birthday. since turning twenty one, i haven’t cared about my age and getting older sucks.”
m.donovan:
“So, I guess that means that the real party can only get better than the thing you’ve come up with. You know, maybe your party will even be some kinda fun!”
“maybe fun for everyone else but i’ll be there still reminded that i’m older and i don’t like it. i’m such a downer, matt, we can’t escape that. if it wasn’t my birthday, but someone else’s, i’d have fun.”
l.martin:
over the years anne had collected a lot of books on magic and over the past two months lydia had made a substantial dent in it. she had sources on all types of magic but it was anchored on the good - on the natural. that was all they were supposed to look into and she understood why - at least she thought she did. in all likelihood it was just kol getting to her, trying to twist her toward becoming as dark as the medea coven but that wasn’t about to happen - she saw the point in using ‘dark’ magic but talking to anne first seemed the best bet. unless anne said something she didn’t agree with… but that was unlikely.
❝ Can I ask you something? ❞
honestly, being the one with all the answers and all the information made anne feel important. like she’s finally doing good after years of just skimming by, running from place to place. her girls needed her, that much was true, and she knows each of them have been reading the books on magic she’s collected. so it isn’t so much of a surprise, rather a welcomed treat when lydia came to her with a question. a smile spread across her lips as the elder witch hoped she’d know the answer. “of course, lydia, what is it?”
d.hale:
“No, it doesn’t look good. –But you’ve done plenty for the people of this town, and I trust my sister’s judge in character.”
“thank you, derek, for at least giving it some understanding. i don’t mean to come off shady, but if more people knew my story -- who knows the amount of danger that could come to them. i’d like to help, not make matters worse.”
m.donovan:
“Yeah, you should better prepare for the worst, I mean, when it comes to the party. It would be kinda nice to have one party without a demon, but it seems that right now no one is really lucky in this town when it comes to that.”
“i’m always prepared for the worst, probably why my first thought is the worst outcome. ah, that would be the price of the hellmouth, nothing seems lucky.”
e.gilbert:
❛ it’s gonna be your birthday? ❜
“unfortunately. at the end of the month. not looking forward to it one bit.”
m. donovan:
“Did you tell her that you’re birthday is coming up? Because in that case, she might come up with something yeah. Every reason for a party counts for them. I’ve grown to like it, actually. I mean, if no demon shows up to ruin all the fun before midnight.”
“of course lydia knows about my birthday, she -- along with the rest of the coven -- know everything about me. so i really should expect a party, even though i don’t want one, huh? it would be my rotten luck to have a demon show up on my birthday.”
j.blake:
“ i’m not going to be the one to stop you from bending the forces of the earth. if you want to toy with mother nature and time, please - feel free. “
“don’t. i don’t have the energy to sit here and argue with you, or anything. -- what do you want? last time we spoke you told me you’re julia baccari then decided to help create a monster.”
m.donovan:
“My mom either didn’t care about whatever we should have been celebrated, or she had forgotten about it. It’s fine, I’ve grown used to it. And hey, I’m friends with Caroline and Lydia. I did get birthday parties, so don’t worry too much about that. They just weren’t thrown by my own mom.”
“doesn’t sound like something to be used to. luckily you do have friends who care and were willing to celebrate, but i can see what makes you so apathetic towards birthdays. -- oh dear, you don’t think lydia is planning me a birthday party, do you?”
d.hale:
“–Why run so much?”
“for the longest time, running was all i’ve known. i realize we don’t know much of each other, and it doesn’t look good that i’m so secretive, but your sister knows my story and my coven -- they’re all i’m willing to tell.”
e.gilbert:
❛ not a fan of november, i take it? ❜
“not a fan of birthdays, actually. the idea of getting older is something i struggle with.”
m.donovan:
“Well, seems that you and I both like holidays and birthdays for the same reason. It gives us some extra money to spend on more important stuff. I can’t even remember that we ever celebrated anything at home.”
“you can’t remember celebrating anything? that sounds awful, i’m truly sorry to hear that. i’ve been a lot of years alone, so i believe that is the source of my bitterness towards it all. but that can’t be compared to what you may have had, of course.”
j.blake:
“ so… you just want to skip to the end of the book without having to read it first. regardless of the hellmouth, that’s a bit naïve, don’t you think?“
“it’s only a month, at least, and if anything it was innocent wishful thinking. i’m not ready to turn another year older, that’s all.”
d.claire:
“what’s so wrong with november? but i’m totally up for time manipulation.”
“everything. starting with my birthday on the thirtieth. just a jump through time without any repercussions. that’s all i ask for.”
