"Burgers and Milkshakes..?"

The commander paused for a few seconds, his stomach was growling himself and his body needed some form of energy. Though it’s been months, maybe even years since he last consumed food. Again, Dr. Andonut’s technology took care of all his bodily needs before.

He wasn’t sure how to react to this, should he accept this gift? .. All the commander really wanted from this kid was a way to his apartment and a map of the area. 

     "…."

Before he could give an answer which was most likely a ‘no’, it was already too late. Ness had gone ahead and was already dragging him into the diner, how tedious.. It looks like he was going whether he liked it or not.

Before he knew it, he was sitting down on a table looking through the menu… this.. oddly reminded him of a restaurant in New Pork City.. Beauty and Tasty was it? Though unlike that, this diner wasn’t filled with poorly made bots designed through the image of a portly woman. 

But in this menu.. there were so many options and to be perfectly frank, he wasn’t sure which meal was best suited him. What tasted the best? Which had the most calories? Nutrients? ..

     Calories? Nutrients? More like... pooptrients, am I right?

     Not taking either of those things in to consideration, after glancing at his menu for only a few moments, Ness already sat it back down-- noticing Claus still looking over the thing.

"Not sure what to get? Trust me-- the burgers are great, ok? I'll just get you one of those... and uh, if you don't like it, don't worry! I can eat it for you."

     He was paying for it, anyways.

     With a particularly plucky NPC waitress coming over with a smile, she asked the boys what they'd like-- with Ness answering, simply asking for two burgers and two milkshakes.

     If you're going to get a burger, you also ought to get a milkshake too.

     Go big or go home.

     Letting the lady head off with their orders in tow, Ness looks at Claus now-- smiling brightly, as per usual.

"If you don't like it, you can order somethin' else, I don't mind. I got some money from a part time job I worked, and I don't mind spending it!"

"... Oh, hey! I never got your name, by the way. Mine's Ness. What's yours?"

"I was thinkin' about doing this dare thing, but from what I'm hearing, not all of these dares sound good..."

     Beep.

     Beep boop beep.

     ...

     ...

"Hello? Hey, whoever this is, stop calling this numb--"

     Click.

     ... It was a little silly to try, really. Calling a number he had already called multiple times in payphones throughout the city. But, there was always a possible chance the call would have been answered by someone else.

     ... Ah, who was he kidding. Was there really a chance?

"Didn't work again, huh..."

     What did he expect, really? How many times had he dialed that number, anyways? ... Too many times to count, by now.

     Slumping against the wall of his dimly lit, slightly messy, and overall lonely home within District Delta, Ness tossed the phone over to his bed-- pathetically missing and watching it careen in to the wall instead.

     A boy could only try so many times before being defeated. And, unfortunately, this didn't seem like it would be a battle that Ness would be able to finish.

"... Guess you can't call people through dimensions. Guess that makes sense. I don't think even telepathy could reach. Not like I've practiced it much..."

     The boy shivered a little, feeling cold in this little chamber. And yet, he did not move-- not wanting to grab a blanket. He didn't want to move at all, really.

"..."

"... Mom... Dad..."

     And he wouldn't move for a long while.

The commander responds yet another single nod, so they were in sector 5? That explained all the shopping districts, stores and shops.. but considering how close together the buildings were, the complex should be close by, correct?

But then he’d stop when the other boy paused, so this guy was hungry too? Admitably, the commander was feeling fatigued himself.. truthfully, he hasn’t slept or ate since the moment he got here which was about.. 24 hours ago? He was far too used to using Instant Revitalizing Machines and Dr. Andonut’s constant maintenance. 

"…. You’re hungry?"

"If you intend on buying something, feel free to purchase something for yourself.”

"Well, yeah, I was planning on it."

     Another pause. This time, a glorious idea filled Ness' brain.

"But, hey, tell you what-- I'll buy you something too, okay? They've got this great burger place here with the most awesome milkshakes and-- aw, c'mon, follow me! We aren't too far away from it!"

     And with a grin, the boy took off-- expecting the Masked Man to follow along with him regardless of his reply. And true to his word, it really was rather close.

"Alright, here we are! Morton's Diner! ... I found out about this place on chance and it's super great. Let's head inside!"

    ... And just like that, he went inside-- already nabbing a table for two.

That.. really was easier than he thought it was.

As the cheerful boy gladly agreed in helping him finding his apartment, the commander responds with a single nod, keeping his gaze on the other. That frown was completely un-phased by this boy’s perkiness.

 "My room is in the x class and the building is located in sector 5."

"Do you know what sector we’re in now?"

"Yeah, actually! We're in Sector 5 right now!"

"This place is the market sector, or so they call it. That's cause... there's all these stores around! You see? ... But, anyways, the apartment building shouldn't be too far off, so it'll be a breeze to get there!"

     A quick pause followed his words, as Ness lefted a hand to his stomach, for but a moment.

"... Before that though... hey, are you hungry? 'Cause I'm starvin' like Marvin!"

This boy was ….surprisingly perky.. normally most would be phased by how abrupt he was when it came to approaching strangers but this guy was strangely fine with it? He supposed that would make it twenty times easier to get this boy to show him where everything is located.

If this boy was of any use anyways, hopefully he was.

"Yes, I have questions pertaining to this city."

"I still need to locate my apartment along with everything else, will you assist me?"

     Ah, so he was new! That explained things. With a knowing nod, right away Ness understood the other's concerns.

"I getcha. Okay! I'll help you out. I might not know where the 'everything else' stuff is at, but I can definitely show you to your apartment!"

"So, what room did they give you?"

This boy’s red cap, his getup and that wooden baseball bat he carries, something about him seemed oddly familiar.. wasn’t he the star in one of the movies played in the New Pork Theater? None the less, thoughts like that will be saved until a later date.

The masked man confronts this boy right away, not only did this boy have PSI energy emitting from his own world but he might prove to be useful. He needed to find his apartment, a laboratory where he could receive proper maintenance and locate any possible regiments of the Pigmask army scattered in this city, if there even were any.

"….."

"… Hello…?"

"Hi!"

     Despite the other's suddenness and awkwardness, Ness doesn't skip a beat and smiles brightly-- only having paused out of sheer surprise of being approached so suddenly.

     And what was with this guy's get-up? Fur-rimmed jacket, a weird helmet, something that looked like an arm cannon, and was that a sword sheathed there? Man, whoever this guy was, he looked like he came out of some kind of video game or something!

"You need something?"

The mage, while features remained hidden, got a bit nervous as Ness looked over him. He was used to being taller than those came across, obviously. But the intense curiosity of children always threw him off - it was like a lifetime ago for him.

He nodded at the boy’s response. Armour clinking as he did.

"Forgive me, there is no need to be shocked. So you have psychic powers? Telepathy and the like, yes? Ah, that makes sense - it is no wonder I was able to sense you. I have similar abilities as well… Though yours seem even stronger than mine. How old are you, child?"

"I'm not shocked! Just surprised. I almost thought you were some kinda alien, or something!"

     Actually, he still could have been. There was always the possibility.

"Telepathy... kinda. I can listen to what animals say and talk to them, but I can't really hear people's thoughts... yet. But wow, really? You're the tallest psychic I've ever met, then! You think I'm stronger though?"

     Ness was still impressed with Golbez's height, of all things.

"Anyways, I'm only thirteen! Oh, I'm Ness, by the way. What's your name?"

     Cue the sound of a milkshake being slurped.

"You look kinda down. What's wrong?"

"Um… thank you. I like yours, too."

A genuine reciprocation of the compliment—Ness’ shirt kind of reminded him of the one his brother had liked to wear all the time. The colors were similar, anyway.

As for Porky, the scowl that Lucas gave in return was by no means small, but it went ignored. Ugh. The boy reminded himself to keep a level head; this was just a memory. Only a memory. Inhaling slowly and sighing sharply, he followed the others up, veering very much to the side Porky wasn’t on.

Honestly, he didn’t even want to look at the guy—lo and behold, he wouldn’t have to. Distraction came in the form of an unusually aggressive crow that swooped down at the boys. Lucas winced as Ness swung at it in a bid to drive it away—sure, it was self-defense, but… that was still just an animal.

Well, the black-haired boy didn’t seem all too happy about having to strike it down. At least there was that. It was strange, Lucas noticed as well—it hadn’t even given them any indication they were in its territory, just attacked out of the blue. Strange behavior, indeed…

Lucas nodded curtly at the concern aimed at him. Yeah, he was fine. An angry crow was the least of the dangerous things he’d ever had to face.

He watched as Ness and King exchanged a moment; it did seem that he had a close bond with the animal. Any companionship with Porky notwithstanding, that did put him at a peg above the chubby kid.

The psychic followed Ness’ gaze up to the top of the mountain. Huh. Something glowing up there… he got a strange sense from the light. He pointed up at it.

"Are we heading up there, then?" Lucas inquired—of Ness, specifically. He’d not even speak to Porky if he could help it.

     Meanwhile, the more portly boy didn't have any intention of speaking to Lucas-- having taken that scowl from earlier personally. ... Not like that was all that surprising, anyways, knowing him.

     But, Ness didn't notice. Or at least, didn't seem to.

     If anything, he almost seemed blissfully unaware-- disregarding Pokey's bad habits as they continued on their way, putting in the effort that the boy who would apologize to the animals or play dead wasn't, along with his own effort mixed between.

"Hm? Oh, yup. Well it looks like it, anyways! You heard about the crash, right? Anyways, since we haven't seen him yet, I bet Picky is up there..."

     Walking up the grassy pathway and past a few blockades the police had ditched, the two had been coming to the summit when all of a sudden...

"Awooooof!"

     King let out a bark, causing Ness to take a turn as the white-coated dog stepped up to Ness, barking at him a little... almost as if he was conversing. And almost as if Ness could understood, he gave him a small nod.

     And then, just like that, the dog trotted off and headed back home without further adieu, leaving just the three boys. Watching King head off for a moment, Ness tilted his cap slightly-- before fully stepping up to the top of the mountain, where nearby, the meteorite glowed quietly.

     ... And Pokey, who had been following along still, had paused-- noticing a noise from behind a tree nearby. Urging Ness to check it out, he let Ness lead the away once more as they soon came across... a slumbering boy with a bowl cut. And casually, with a small smile and a sigh coming from Pokey's lips, Ness nudged the younger boy's shoulder.

"Wha-!"

     Picky got up with a jump.

"Oh! You woke me up... Pokey! I've been looking all over for you..."

     Glancing to Pokey, then to Lucas, and finally to Ness, the younger boy smiled sheepishly, clearly embarrassed.

"You see, Pokey got scared and ran away... well, I'm glad that you're okay at least... Let's go home now. I bet Mom and Dad are worried sick about us. Geez! Sometimes I wonder which of us is the real big brother."

     Pokey, who had looked awkward, offered a small laugh as he put his arm around his brother... proceeding to grumble at the other, to which Picky frowned a bit. Ness took notice of this.

"-- Uh."

"Well, anyways. I'm glad we found you. Pokey said he was worried sick, right Pokey?"

     To which Pokey agreed suddenly, stepping off a bit. ... Pausing, Ness glanced to Lucas once.

"Oh, Lucas-- this is Picky, Pokey's brother, if you couldn't guess. Picky, this is my new friend, Lucas!"

     Picky blinked, offering a slightly larger smile.

"Uh, hi Lucas. Nice to meet'cha. ... Anyways, sorry, but I gotta rush the introductions. We really should be getting home now..."

     Pokey also spoke-- actually agreeing, for once. And Ness nodded.

"That's fine, then. Alright, lets head home!"

     Turning, ready to head off down the mountain, as they passed by the meteorite... suddenly, Pokey finally spoke up.

"Ness! Lemonhead! Do you hear a buzzing sound that sounds like a bee flying around?"

     ... And he could. Trying to listen for a moment, Ness... could.

"Yes! You can hear it!"

     And just as the buzzing got louder...

     Suddenly, a thin light burst from the meteorite, growing larger in size and illuminating the entire mountain top. And as Pokey and Picky stepped back in awe, Ness stood, eyes wide at the sight before him... and to the small creature buzzing about before them all...

     The one now buzzing around Ness' head, harmlessly.

This child… so small, and yet even now Golbez could sense something oozing from him. Warm, and yet seemingly an aura stronger than anything the mage had seen before. He needed to understand better.

"I sense a great and untapped power coming from you, child. Tell me, do you know what it is?"

     Whoa... talk about huge.

     Ness has seen tall guys before-- heck, he's even seen giants-- but seeing a person as tall as this and with a relatively normal voice as well was rather amazing, in a way.

"Uh..."

"Yep, I sure do. I've got psychic powers, mister!"

     He takes no hesitation to reply, smirking proudly.

Day 2: Halloween Expedition

He’ll answer with a most casual of shrugs. Perhaps now is as good a time as any to critique his services. Pokey climbs down from the cart now, keeping one hand on the handle. His eyes have drifted from the other boy’s face to the yo-yo… From the shadows beneath his bangs, his gaze shifts from his yo-yo to rove curiously all over his face before settling on his eyes. A look of puzzlement washes over his face.

You have suddenly become much more interesting, Ness. Pokey blinks, his eyes wide with curiosity. The way he sees it, there’s something in it for him and you.

"I’ve always been here - I don’t how you know my name, but I think I know you…"

Or rather, the ‘other’ him knows you.

Pokey pulls his cart up to a drug store and peers in through the front window. His cart is impossibly full but he’d still like to grab a few more things. He’ll turn to Ness before heading in.

"One more stop."

     That was a look he hadn't seen in quite a long time.

     In fact, he's almost not sure what to say to that response. And it's not like this was a joke, either. Had Porky been joking, there would have been a snicker underneath his breath. But there was nothing.

     Just curious eyes, and a curious tone.

"Always been...? But, that's not..."

     Trailing off, having been walking with the other as he pushed his cart forward, Ness gave him a single blink.

"... Only one more?"

     And then, a small smirk filled his face. He was still confused, sure, but... he couldn't help but joke a bit, bringing his yo-yo back up to let it loose once more-- and to let it return to his hand easily. He wasn't sure what was going on, but...

     He wasn't leaving yet.

"I'll come with. Got nothing better to do. My name's Ness, by the way."

dear Mom,

      hey Mom its me, Ness. I dont know if you can get this. actually I don’t know if I can contact here at all. but I’m writing this letter to you and I really really hope you can get it.

so um

a lot has happened. I  guess im kinda on another big adventure this time! But it’s a lot different then the one before, and I’m really sure where to start. i was kidnapped, for starters. but, I’m fine! it’s not really dangerous here. it’s like Fourside! you know, Fourside? but this place is even bigger and it’s kinda intimidating. but I’m not scared!

no way no how.

but i really miss you. i really really miss you, and Dad, and Tracy, and King too. I miss all of you guys a lot. I miss our steak dinners, too, and I miss my bed and my rocket underwear and i really miss a lot of stuff, Mom.

but I’ll be okay. I’ll be strong. I’m always strong, so I’ll be okay! So dont worry about me, okay? because I’ll be just fine, even without your steaks!

I don’t know when I’ll be back. But don’t worry, I’ll write some more.

Even if you don’t get this, I’ll write some more!

Day 2: Halloween Expedition

At the sound of the other boy’s voice, Pokey peers around the heap of sweets. A look of confusion clouds his face. He doesn’t know this kid, or why he knows his name. Regardless, there’s a hint of familiarity to him that he can’t place his finger on. And normally Pokey would hop onto the cart and roll on by or maybe even try to run Nes over. Instead, he’ll step down and drag the heel of his shoe on the ground, bringing the cart to a stop. He isn’t going to climb off or answer the question just yet.

"Uh, sorry, I think I have enough help…"

His expression grows curious. He’s beginning to suspect the baseball-cap’d boy has something up his sleeve… With a smirk, he’ll reach into the cart and toss a bag of sweets to him. No particular reason.

"Help? Wha--"

     -- With his yo-yo hand now free as it dangled below, the boy caught the bag with slight confusion-- staring at it for a moment. Jolly Ranchers? Huh. Wait-- this was no time to be jolly, nor was it a time to... rancher.

     ... That probably wasn't a word.

"Uh... thanks..."

     Staring at the bag for a moment, the boy looks at Pokey, still with confusion-- soon tucking the bag away under his arm. Why'd he just... give him something, all of a sudden? Hey, not like he was complaining, a present was always nice, but...

"Pokey... is this where you've been all this time? In this... weird place here?"
