A cold left over...
Better out than in. I have no real memory of putting this together. It was done a long time ago and has been sitting on my old laptop going grey and losing hair along with the outdated software. I gave it a once over during the end of year break.
I have basically uploaded this track to let people know that I am still here. Even I don't like it.
Who knows when I will feel like doing anything close to real music. No time soon.

"You should see the damage, bronze"
This is my fuel drenched love letter to the spirit of the most Australian, most aggressive, most electric bit of dialogue ever uttered in the history of film. Cult actor Vincent Gil nailed the true essence of nihilism in the intro of George Miller's 1979 classic Mad Max (forget that 2015 piece of crap).
Forget anyhing that you thought was punk or rebellious. No band in history has ever delivered a line as utterly anarchic as "I'm a fuel injected suicide machine".
I put this together years ago and decided to dust it off while I take an extended break from songs. Hopefully my choice of music does some justice to the venom spat out by Vincent Gil. The music is loud and saturated but it works given the subject matter. I like to think this is what the Nightrider would be listening to today had Max not driven him off the road back in 79.
For those of you who follow my music this is obviously not the norm, but I dig it.
Hope you enjoy!

SKY PIGS 1.1 - Hunger Lives at 24 Sussex #2
Hey guy!
The East Village Vampire's song 'Heading Out West' was just used in the always fantastic Cameron Ohara's latest episode of Sky Pigs. As usual it is a completely wild and imaginative animated ride. I have to say that I was incredibly humbled to have been asked to contribute a song.
Be sure to follow Cameron. He has a heap of talent and his unique vision deserves your support.

Radio Variety Show in the UK - âWe Are What We Areâ
Hey guys, The East Village Vampire was just played on the Radio Variety Show in the UK. Check out the link below, those guys are seriously funny British lads. They chose to play âWe Are What We Areâ and by the sound of it they had a bit of fun with it.

Every now and then you come across something that inspires you on a very deep level.
It can be anything. It is like hearing The Beatles for the first time or seeing the Pyramids of Giza. Iâm talking about those moments of wonder that make you think that human beings are capable of anything.
With this in mind, I recently watched Charlie Chaplinâs âThe Great Dictatorâ from 1940 (I couldnât believe that I had not seen it before). When I got to his famous monologue it was like being hit by lightning. Eloquent, passionate and armed to teeth with universal truth. It is as relevant today as back in the 1940âs.
It is also incredible to think that the greatest monologue in the history of cinema was delivered by the very icon of silent film.
Anyway, I decided to sample the monlologue and put some music to it. Originally I was working on a stirring and ornate piece of music, but for some reason I shelved it in place of a sludgy blues jam. Something about Chaplinâs passionate reading that called for something a bit more aggressive in my mind. You may not agree.
To be fair, although the entire monologue is incredible it is from the line âTo those who can hear meâ that it becomes spellbinding (approx 1 min & 31 secs). At least in my opinion. To round it out I also included the âHannahâ Monologue at the end which concludes it nicely.
Enjoy!

You always find musicians who dabble in ambient sounds. The problem is most donât really have the sensibilities to pull it off and it all becomes self indulgent.
That is why I love The Sweet Disorder. This guy has that ambient feel. Never self indulgent and always displaying a keen ear. He is just at home writing cracker songs as he is soundscapes.
Check out this masterful track.

Just listen to this song.
evenorodd is a unique musical voice that must be listened to.
This is his latest called âTeethâ.
Just brilliant.
The Vamp
Recorded in about 2.5 hours, this song is what it is and it is "We Are What We Are". In short, it is a bit of fuzzed up glam rock that just hammers on a 4 chord sequence. I shouldn't be so dismissive as it is probably somewhat catchy. You can hear me destroying my voice on the vocal lead. I also dig the kind of Lady Madonna or Bowie TVC-15 style piano. The song is basically about the fact that most people don't change (We Are What We Are). Take me for instance, I shouldn't waste my time on music but here I go again. Recently I was told that I would never change and they were right because a song came out about an hour later. Some people claim that you are what you pretend to be. Bullshit! We are what we are. Just ask Norman Bates how well pretending to be something that he wasn't turned out. Hope you enjoy! the East Village Vampire LYRICS... We are what we are I'm changing outside Because inside is locked away The more you ask the more things stay the same Over the years I've learnt a thing or two People don't change No matter what they say or do We are what we are... You know the night can't pass as a bright new day You know that anger can't never be stored away Over the years I've learnt a thing or two People can't change No matter what they say or do We are what we are... I'm changing outside But inside is locked away The more you ask the more things stay the same Over the years I've learnt a thing or two People don't change No matter what they say or do We are what we are...

Want to hear some serious song writing?
Want to hear someone who has a real command of music?
Want to be taken on a journey through some dark streets of a unique musical world?
If so, drop everything for 5 minutes and 36 seconds and listen to 'Another Lover' by evenorodd. Why do I keep asking you to listen to this guy? Simple. Because he is that fucking good and it really upsets me that someone with that much talent is being ignored.
Even if you don't dig the song (which would be ridiculous) you can't deny that this guy has mastery over a serious musical vocabulary. Given today's soulless mainstream music that alone is worth the price of admission. Check it out below!

Old song remixed and remastered in a less idiotic way(maybe less idiotic by 25 percent). I am feeling antsy.
I don't suppose you got another lover
one to take this burden from my hands
cause I've been yearning for a tragic moment
mercy from all of your demands
please give me some relief before I crumble
I'm not the man, I'm not man I was
but you're just so pretty, why am I frail?
And I'm feeling used up before my time
You know in Mississippi this would surely be a crime
I've got to go before I lose my nerve
I am heading for bad weather
and dangerous curves
I don't suppose you got another lover
the standard issue never do the trick
may I suggest a piston or a turbine
or anything that packs a little kick
You pushed me pass the point of expiration
I'm broken down I'm tearing at the seams
But you're just so pretty
why am I so frail
I and I'm feeling used up before my time
you know in Alabama this would surely be a crime
And I've got to go before I lose my nerve
I'm for bad weather and dangerous curves
And I surrender
I never really had a chance
to leave your side, to end this song and dance
So get your whips and leathers
choke chains, ties, and tethers
tied like always at the hip
on this sinking ship.
Hey all, here is my first new song of 2015. This is a strange one to kick things off. It falls into the category of what I have describe as âfever dreamâ music. âThe God In Me Just Evaporatedâ is a strange mix of blues, electro, disco, post punk and maybe a bit of ambient for good measure. It came about pretty organically as bits and pieces started to merge together to form a picture. The song was inspired by my home country of Australia. I donât often write about Australia as everywhere else always seems a lot more exciting to me â you know, the grass is always greener. Anyway, what you quickly discover about Australia is that once you leave civilization (i.e. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane etc) and venture into the outback it can become a pretty terrifying place. If something can bite you, poison you, eat you, break you or generally scare the hell out of you it resides down under. Make no mistake, Australia is unforgiving. Importantly, there is a real sense of isolation in the Australian outback. Iâve been around and to me it is different to any other desert or landscape anywhere in the world. It is alien. It feels like nothing has ever existed out there. It feels like a land before time. Iâve heard someone describe as being older than God. With that in mind, I was also inspired by the brilliant 2005 John Hillcoat film âThe Propositionâ and its idea that God does not exist in the outback â that the land sucks any belief out of you (i.e. the God in me just evaporated). I actually sampled the film. You can hear Guy Pearce and the beyond incredible John Hurt conversing. I tried to write lyrics that reflect the feeling of their conversation. I donât know... Youâll get the idea. It is more about mood. I think the music does a good job communicating vastness. I also give my old Guild 12 string a workout which I havenât used in a while. Think Iâll end up using it a lot more this year. I like this one. Hope you enjoy! The East Village Vampire LYRICS... Mr Lamb: "Russia, China, The Congo... Oh, I have travelled among unknown people in lands beyond the sea. But nothing! Nothing could have prepared me for this God forsaken hole." East Village Vampire: I am lost in a shroud of stars I am lost and on my own Feel it leaving me behind Soon the land will claim my bones Because there's nothing out here to find No there's nothing but sand and stone And those birds circling the sky Will never point the way back home See them turn and turn and turn See them turn and turn and turn Charlie Burns: "Do you pray Mr. Lamb?" Mr. Lamb: "Good lord son no I do not! I was in days gone by a believer, but alas I came to this beleaguered land and the God in me just evaporated..." The East Village Vampire: I feel all God leaving my soul I feel the city lights fading away And all memory of you will dissolve but the scars will always remain And the land is looking for blood And it knows that's what it will find And those birds keep circling the sky See them turn and turn and turn See them turn and turn and turn See them turn and turn and turn See them turn and turn and turn
It is not often that I post multiple times about the same musician, but EVENORODD is an exception. Check out this incredibly haunting and atmospheric song. Musicianship, lyrics and performance are all just incredible. In a sea of mediocrity, EVENORODD is worth the effort. The Vamp
Every now and then you find an artist that just doesnât recognize their immense talent. My good friend who goes under the name âevenoroddâ is one such artist.
He is infuriatingly brilliant. He just doesnât hear what I do, but as of late I am hoping that he is coming around as he has decided to release his work.
A perfectionist, a master musician, a deep thinker and an even deeper soul. He is the perfect antidote to the plastic formulaic bullshit that you have to endure these days. He resides in his own musical universe where music is meant to be more than just a catchy tune.
So if the likes of Nick Drake, Tom Waits or any other real musician who has actual blood pumping through their veins speaks to you then this guy is for you.
Check out evenorodd's SoundCloud page:

Here is his first release in a while. Hopefully there are many more to come.
