in eclipse jacob told bella that the night sam found her curled up in the woods, incoherent and broken, was a memory that “always haunted” sam— and i generally have to wonder, how much of that is in part to just how bad off she was and how much of that was because this was because sam was thinking about leah and what happened between them? naturally, the timeline is fuzzy but this was most likely right around the time he had just done so or was getting ready to and it most likely felt like a very hard punch in the gut to sam in regards to the realization of just how bad a breakup and the loss of someone can affect a person. it makes me wonder if sam was haunted by that image of bella because— for a moment —all he could think of was how edward left her the way he left leah and how both girls never asked for this. did he compare himself to edward, his natural enemy? did he hate himself more because of it and how he saw the similarities? i mean it’s no secret sam hates the cullens but this had to just be salt in the wound right? was he worried about what would become of leah as a result? did he worry about if she would end up as bad off as bella did? and if she did, would he be the cause of it? in another week or two would they be hunting for leah in the woods? would they— he find her in time?

and another thing: it’s also stated by jacob that the reason sam hates vampires, the cullens especially, is because he broke leah’s heart and “went back on every promise he ever made her.” obviously we don’t get much more detail than this but it more or less rounds out to the fact that it’s not that he started phasing in itself that is the problem. it’s not even that the course of his life entirely shifted or that he suddenly became a protector and had a lot of responsibility. it’s the fact that he broke leah’s heart because he phased— and he did it just in time for the cullens to turn around and leave, leaving behind bella who was just as broken.

Woke up this afternoon violently angry that twilight didn't end with Edward cooking Bella dinner at her fucking house on prom night. Like, Smeyer WROTE that ending. She WROTE an outtake ending where Edward respects Bella's preferences and puts in effort to learn a new skill for her. Not just any skill, but the thing SHE'S good at, the thing everyone (but him, of course) frequently overlooks her for. It would add meaning to the "in her element making cheerios" quote from Midnight Sun. It would make the Tyler taking her to prom thing more fun when my dude KNOCKS ON THE FRONT DOOR. It would even make the Jacob thing more logical. And it would be romantic, ACTUALLY romantic. They could have the discussion about Edward changing her in Charlie's little candle lit kitchen, a place previously marked by its emptiness, a place of past love and loneliness made warm again by Edward's love for her RATHER than in the GODDAMN PARKING LOT of FORKS HIGH SCHOOL.

Fuck you, Stephanie.
