Noel groaned as he kicked the blanket off of his feet, throwing his legs over the side of the bunk as he sat up. He couldnât explain how or why heâd ever agreed to this, genuinely disappointed in himself for letting it happen. âIâd ask what the point of this was if I thought there was any hope of getting a straight answer.â He reached under the bunk for his boots, eyeing Benny warily as he pulled them on. He made a point not to comment on the otherâs appearance, afraid of giving Benny the satisfaction.Â
âArenât you a little old to be worrying about pissing your dad off?â He asked, his boots hitting the ground with a heavy thunk before he moved to stand.Â
.
âAbsolutely,â Benny said, grinning violently in a way that seemed unnatural, âBut that doesnât mean I canât take pleasure out of it.â He waited just long enough for Noel to climb to his feet before striding down the hall towards the exit. âDoes anyone really outgrow daddy issues?â he mused aloud with a glance over his shoulder to make sure the other was keeping up. âOr do they just get better prescriptions?â Luckily, the fancy schmancy residential portion of Tera wasnât far from the barracks, most likely a calculated decision by the more paranoid members of the Council.
âI need to get into my fatherâs office. And your job is to make sure I donât get caught.â He hadnât, not since heâd hit double digits, but he also hadnât had a chance to investigate the beefed-up security measures his father had surely adopted in the wake of all the Outlander mess.Â
