some of y’all will be engaging in witch hunt, accusing writers left and right and then wondering why more and more writers take their works down and don’t share them with you ungrateful losers anymore.
“this fic looks like it was created by ai” yeah that’s because ai was trained on human-made works and it was trained to mimic human-made works.
you claim you hate ai because ai harms real artists, yet you are out there accusing and harassing artists because “their vibes just aren’t right”. at this point, you are the ones who cause more harm — to art and the writing community — than ai does.
you are the ones killing art and writing community, the community you want to “protect against ai”.
so at this point, you’re killing the community faster than ai is. good luck when the community you want to protect has no human-made work left because you accused and harassed genuine artists/writers away and the only things that are left for you to read are actual ai-generated fics.
if you think a fic is ai and if that bothers you like it does me, quietly exit the tab and avoid their future works like a normal, decent person. because with every "this fic looks ai" comment, there's always a chance of you wrongly accusing an innocent writer and further harming the writing community as a whole.
No neural network could come up with my bizarre small town antics. Accusing me of using AI is fightin' words.

I can relate
How people get nicknames:
Recipient of a third-degree burn in front of witnesses. IE, "I won't take that shit from a man dressed like a ghostbuster"= "Gostbuster" or "Buster"
A distinctive personal feature or quirk. IE, "Have you noticed how that new guy is always eating bell peppers?" = "Peppers", or "That chick has a massive forehead" = "Forehead".
An embarrassing thing you said or did. IE, "Did you seriously call Dale "Dad"?" = "Junior", "Baby boy", "Sport"
A game of name-mutation telephone. IE, "Donny Clyde" = "Bonnie 'n' Clyde" = "Bonnie" = "Bon-bon".
Irony. IE, calling a tall person "short stack" or a particularly dour person "sunshine".
A 'wrong place wrong time' one-off incident. IE, "He spilled oil on his pants and had to borrow a pair that were way too big and Jim saw him with the waistband pulled up to his nipples and called him 'Parachute'"
A batman-style origin story but not in a cool way: "One time she hit a deer with the company car and when she called the boss to tell her she was crying so hard we thought she was dying" = "Bambi"
The incredibly rare 'admiration' nickname, bourne only once a millennia under the light of the blood moon: "We saw him lift a truck once so now we call him 'iron man'"
+ How Nicknames Stick:
Your fate is determined by The Counsel
You hate it
It's accurate
This reminds me of an article about how callsigns in movies are inaccurate because they're too cool. Generally your callsign in the military is like "Bepis" because you once pronounced "Pepsi" wrong.

Before writing that Black queer &/or trans character, ask yourself:
Another set of resources that I've typed up for my upcoming lesson. I'm sure that even more questions could be asked; I hope that Black folk feel free to include their own additions in the tags! But these ought to be enough to at least get anyone to start self-reflecting during their creation/watching process!
The magic has calmed
Oh. I suppose we're doing this now.
I thought writing would feel like;
Turns out it’s herding cats. Half of them are on fire, and the other half are narrative choices I don’t remember making.
yes. Yes this exactly.
It's always you
I can see into a myriad of possibilities
Many of them too outlandish or extreme to expect would happen
And yet
This is the reality that the future has collapsed into
Truly
Truly I am delighted

That post that's like "stop writing characters who talk like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" really blew the door wide open for me about how common it's become for a character's emotional intelligence to not be taken into consideration when writing conflict. I remember the first time I went to therapy I had such a hard time even identifying what I was feeling, let alone had the language to explain it to someone else. Of course there are plenty of people who've never been to therapy a day in their life who are in tune to their emotions. But even they would have some trouble expressing themselves sometimes. You have to take into account there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable expressing themselves and people who think they're not allowed to feel certain ways. It also makes for more interesting conflict to have characters with different levels of understanding.
i think people have gotten out of the habit of writing characters being untruthful unless they're evil. sometimes people just lie, or they believe and repeat things that aren't true. people just do not and often Can not tell the absolute truth about themselves all the time even during heated and climactic moments. why are you writing everyone being absolutely honest about their feelings!!
i think, if you have a character who is completely in tune with their emotions, and able to communicate their thoughts and feelings with complete effectiveness. that’s actually a Significant Character Trait that should probably Have Narrative Weight. because that’s a tough skill to master! like genuinely it’s really hard and it takes practice. what in their backstory made them so determined to master themselves in that way? have they actually mastered it, or have they just learned how to fake it really convincingly? under what circumstances does their ability to communicate break down?
This is relevant to We're Not Weird, We're Eccentric in general, and Frisk and Chara in particular. Both of them are aware that something is wrong, but neither of them feels safe seeking outside help, nor do they have the specialist vocabulary to describe what they are doing or feeling. Frisk especially tries to use logic and reason to think their way out of what is, at the root, a matter of emotion and feeling, which is a strategy with a not-impressive track record of success, but you know what they say about when all you have is a hammer. In both cases, a reader with the relevant background could look at the narration and their dialog and go "Hmmm that looks a lot like maladaptive coping mechanisms / a martyr complex / delayed grief / what have you" but there's no way the KIDS would know what those are.
So passes Eleanor.
