I thought Iâd reblog this since the school year is starting for many of you.

#THE WAY I LOVE MY FRASER LADIES #DINNA TOUCH ME
When dreams are a scape
Arenât we all dream of Jamie and Claire safe and sound in our own alternative universes?
She wanted to be safe in Jamieâs arms at a time when she felt empowered, a time she sacrificed to be with Jamie.
She loves Fergus, Marsali and Ian as her own children and sees them in her nuclear family, after so many years of loneliness, they are her refuge, a promise made and completed with Jamie. But also she pictures them complete, Fergus as both hands and Ian is a man who came back from war.
Her private dream of Murtagh to be with Jocasta, whoâs not blind, and to picture a happiness that nobody got to see, how his death broke her heart too. Â
âNever my loveâ evokes that answer she gave to Frank, âthat amount of time doesnât existâ, and twenty years haunted by Jamieâs ghost by finally ended her marriage with Frank.
Bree and Roger left her a few weeks prior, she thinks she will never see her daughter and grandson ever again, imaging them dead, the men who hate her give her the news she received once, at the age of five, the parents died of fatal wounds in a car accident, to break her heart and life all over again.
She looks an abstract piece of art of her house. Surrounded by things that had pronounced her life, a Vase and longed-for stability, Lallybroch and duty to her family, a Microscope and her profession, a Dragonfly and the ambiguity of time, an Orange of her dignity, who once lost it willingly, and took it back.
She had survived all her ordeals, and this time Jamie is with her, her sons are there to protect her and her daughters are there to take care of her.
Because the most amazing thing about Claire is that she refuses to be broken by her loses. Her parentâs deaths did not stop her, Frank did not stop, Misogyny did not stop her, Losing Jamie did not stop her to rebuild her life, Losing Faith did not stop her. Leaving Brianna did not stop her.
She refuses to be meek at all cost, but is heartbreaking the price she has to pay. She knows that something inside her might change and she is terrified and shatter.
But at the end, she is finally safe in Jamieâs arms.

Claire comes back to the past with Brianna and arrives at Helwater looking for Jamieâbut must confront the Dunsanys first.
Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven
Come Hell or Helwater - Part Eight
Rain pattered against the window while Brianna sat at the table in the corner with Isobel working through a set of simple mathematics problems. She didnât have the heart to tell Isobel that sheâd mastered both multiplication and long division two years prior. Instead she worked her way through them slowly, allowing herself the fun of observing the others in the room while they thought she was thoroughly engrossed by the numbers on the page.
Brianna had found soon after her arrival at Helwater that she couldnât help but like Isobelâshe couldnât have borne pretending she was so far behind in her studies otherwise. But Isobelâs sweetness could become grating if not for the presence of her sister, Geneva. It was Geneva who knew exactly how to push Isobelâs agreeableness to the brink, to coax a few less-than-kind remarks out of Isobelâand then offer reassurance that she hadnât been so unkind as to require begging anyoneâs pardon.
There was more to Geneva that Brianna found mesmerizing, however. Quiet moments when she managed a glance at the older girl and it was clear Geneva didnât realize she was being watched. In those moments she looked the way Brianna had felt when Mama and Daddy had told her the great and terrible Truths of her lifeâfirst, that Daddy wasnât going to live with them anymore, he was going to live with his special friend, Sandy, and, just a short time after that, when her mother informed her that Daddy wasnât her ârealâ father. From what Brianna could tell, it was partly Genevaâs parents who were causing her to look that way, but not because they were breaking up. No, the lady Geneva was going to be married soon and anyone could see she didnât want to get married.
But that was why there were beginning to be so many extra people at the estate. They were guests visiting for the upcoming wedding. Several older relatives of the Dunsanys had taken to sitting with Lady Dunsany in the main sitting room while the younger guests preferred to gather in the drawing room. It was in the adjoining library that Isobel was giving Brianna her lessons but the door was kept open so Isobel might pop in and make her necessary appearances every so often. Brianna thought Isobel perhaps preferred the quieter library to the group in the drawing room.
Brianna enjoyed peeking up at them through the doorway. She could only see a portion of one setee and a fragment of the floor to ceiling windows behind but Geneva was partial to planting herself on that setee and as the bride to be, she frequently had company beside herâusually one of the two British soldiers who had startled her mother in the forest that day theyâd arrived. The younger of those two often turned to glance through the same open doorway at her, which always made her flush and look down at her paper. Or was he looking at Isobel? Brianna peeked up to see Isobel looking flustered as well, no doubt aware of the soldierâs piercing gaze.
Even if Brianna could convince herself that the young man was paying his attentions to Isobel, all it took was Geneva seeing her sisterâs blush to throw a wrench in Briannaâs plans of going unnoticed.
âIsobel,â Geneva called rising from the setee and floating to the door. âArenât you going to join us? As the sister of the bride itâs part of your duties to help me entertain my guests,â she teased with a playful giggle and glance over her shoulder. âJohn, Hal, wonât you help me coax Isobel into joining us?â
Isobel sighed but smiled at Brianna before pushing herself up from her chair at the table. âYouâre doing wonderfully,â Isobel assured her. âKeep working on this set of problems and Iâll be back shortly to check your progress.â
Brianna nodded and then watched as Isobel glared at her sister who stood in the doorway with a satisfied grin on her face.
âReally John, you must ask Isobel about her latest obsession with playing governess,â Geneva continued, the conversation still drifting in for Brianna to overhear since the door between the rooms remained open. âItâll be something to keep her occupied when she no longer has me around to entertain her.â

Looooove your stories!! I was wondering if you could write something along the lines of Jamie trying to sleep in Claire's bed after he beats her while at Leoch? And how that would go down. Thanks
Thanks for your prompt, nonnie! Itâs my first time writing in Jamieâs voice, so it was a wee bit different for me and Iâm still working on getting it right, but I hope you like it!

Moth and Flame ( Jamie x Claire)

A/N: I came to this fandom late and even though there are probably 565463 wedding night smut fics and this is the least original idea, I still couldnât let this go, so!! Claire teaches Jamie other ways of giving her pleasure on their wedding night.
I hadnât even realized Iâd fallen asleep when my eyes opened in the dim glow of our room. I certainly hadnât meant to fall asleep directly on top of my new husband. Weâd fallen back onto the bed after making love slowly, facing one another in front of the fire. His gift of Scottish pearls were still draped lovingly around my neck, though the pearls themselves were digging into my skin and his by now. Despite that, I found myself unwilling to move, not wanting to shatter this quiet moment between us. I watched him sleep, copper curls falling loosely across his forehead, and noted with an aching fondness that he was smiling in his sleep. I should want to leave, that much I knew, and a part of me still warred with the guilt ever-present in my heart and mind. But those thoughts all seemed to fade away to see him so peaceful. He was such an eager young man; eager to please me in every way he could, eager to make sure I was happy. When I did leave, heâd one day make a wonderful husband to someone better suited for him.
Somehow, Iâd found my way mostly on top of him in my sleep, head resting against his chest and splayed over him as if his body were my own personal mattress. He was certainly broad enough for it, and if he felt any discomfort, I wouldnât have known it from the way his arms were wrapped around me. Jamie was protective of me even in his sleep, and it made me breathe out in wonder to realize it was only a few nights ago that he was sleeping outside of my door while Dougal and Ned Gowan collected rents. How could we have ever known then that we would be here, days later?

A canon divergence where Claire returns to Scotland without Brianna. NSFW.Â
Scottish Men
by @wunderlichkind
With every step she takes on Scottish ground, Claire is more convinced that coming back has been a bad idea. Even Brianna had sensed it.
âWhat do you mean to find there, Mama? Thereâs no one left waiting for you.â
Itâs true. Theyâre all gone â her family, the few friends she had. Reverend Wakefield. And Jamie.
Itâs not the same, and she knows it. He never existed in this century - her century - but he was still a reality to her, bound to her own existence. Knowing she couldnât return to him mattered little. He was never truly gone. Not to her.

Imagine Claire gets very sick at the castle after they return from the road and Jamie nurses her back to health
An illness was sweeping through the castle unlike any had ever seen before, and Claire had been running nonstop taking care of people from the moment theyâd arrived back from the rent collection. Jamie had been in and out of the castle, fetching new supplies of herbs whenever she was running low. Heâd learned far more about her choice of profession than heâd ever meant to, but he found he didnât mind it so much. It brought him closer to her. She was running and running day and night, tending her patients; barely taking a moment to get any rest herself, save for when Jamie dragged her bodily to bed.
One morning, though, she wouldnât wake up. Jamie felt panic well up within him when he noticed the sweat beading on her face and no amount of gentle shaking or calling out to her would pull his wife from her slumber. âOh, God. Oh, God, I dinna ken what to do, Claire. I need ye. I need ye to wake up and tell me what to do,â he begged softly, smoothing her hair back away from her forehead. âWake up, mo nighean donn, please.â
Claire did little more then murmur softly and turn her head toward him and Jamie made an anguished sound as he pressed his forehead to hers for just a moment. He took a deep breath, then, and slipped out of bed to move toward her wee basket in search of the herbs and medicines sheâd been using to treat everyone else. âThink, think,â he told himself, searching his mind. Her fever, he had to bring that down. If he could get her to wake enough, he could make the tea sheâd been using. Right, so. Fever first.
Feeling better now that he had a plan, Jamie returned to the bed, threw the blankets off, and promptly stripped his wife of her shift. Then he gathered her wild hair up high and wrapped a ribbon round the dark curls to keep them from smothering her. Next, he poured some of the cold water from their ewer into the basin and carried it over to the bed. A clean handkerchief was produced, dipped in the water, and he began to dab her face and neck with it.
For a week, she burned with fever. Jamie refused to allow anyone but Murtagh, who had been sick himself early on and had been nursed back to health by Claire, into their room. Murtagh sat watch whenever Jamie had to run out for herbs or needed to get some rest of his own. They took turns coaxing tea down her dry throat and spreading salve over her cracked lips. The young Scot was terrified by the thought of losing his wife, and the little sleep he did get was tainted with nightmares of the loss of Claire.Â
One morning he woke after only an hour of sleep and jumped out of bed to pace, pausing at every turn to look toward the bed where his wife lay. âWhat if she- Murtagh, I canna lose her. God help me, sheâs everything,â he choked out, face flushed dark with emotion even as tears burned in his eyes.Â
âShe calls out to ye, Jamie. She kens well yeâre here, and sheâs fightinâ to come back to ye. Dinna give up on her,â his Godfather said gently as he let cold water drip along her hairline to roll back into the dark locks.Â
âIâve loved her almost since the start,â Jamie breathed, walking back to the bed and leaning against one of the bedposts. âI ken she didna want me. And then I beat her after Fort William, and she- she was still angry with me. I never made things right wiâ her and if I lose her, I will not forgive myself for the rest of my miserable life.â
Murtagh cursed softly in Gaelic as he lifted the cloth away to soak it anew, then lay it over her forehead. âGet over here and speak wiâ her. Tell her ye love her. Sheâll fight, Jamie. This isna a lass thatâll give up easily. Iâll go and fetch us a meal. Ye sit and talk,â he commanded, standing from his seat and jabbing a finger toward it for his Godson to sit.
Jamie took a deep breath and nodded, then moved over to sit in the chair. He gazed at Claire for a long moment, then sighed and shifted to sit on the bed instead, dragging the cool cloth over her skin once more. He began to speak to her, then, telling her of Lallybroch, of how he meant to take her home, how their tenants would turn out to meet the new Lady Broch Tuarach. He begged her to stay with him, to forgive him for what heâd done. He promised to find a way to make it right with her. Then he lay down next to her, smoothed her hair back, and pressed the cloth to her forehead.Â
He fell asleep murmuring in her ear.
âItâs- youâre too bloody warm,â a voice rasped against his cheek. âJamie. Youâre smothering me.â
âHm?â He blinked a few times, confused to find that heâd fallen asleep. He was curled around Claire, and sheâ Jamie sat up suddenly and looked down at her with wide eyes. âYeâre awake! Oh, thank you, God. Yeâre all right, Sassenach?â
Her eyes were clear; tired and bloodshot, but clear. She smiled tiredly at him and nodded. âThirsty.â
âAye, oh! Aye, one moment.â He hurried over to the ewer and poured a cup of water. He hurried back over and bent to help her sit up. She was so weak, could barely hold her head up, but Jamie kept his arm behind her, gently supporting her as she sipped the water. He set the cup down when sheâd finished, then smoothed her hair back again.Â
Claire closed her eyes for several breaths, exhausted, then opened them into narrow slits to gaze up at him once more. âYou were talking in your sleep,â she said softly.
âOh?â His cheeks flushed faintly and his hand slid down her arm to grasp hers lightly.Â
She nodded, then closed her eyes again. Jamie waited, thinking she was going to tell him what heâd said, but she seemed to doze off. He was about to shift and settle in to wait until sheâd woke again, when she spoke up quietly.
âI wonât leave you, Jamie.â
And then she fell asleep once again.
With This Ring
This little fic takes place in the world of Outlander the book. No spoilers outside of book 1. All the thanks, as always, to @drunklander.
FanFic Masterlist
Jamie was so tired. Every muscle screamed in protest. He was filthy, covered in muck and dirt, but he had promised himself he would do this the moment they returned to the castle, and he would not abandon his plan. Once Claire was deposited safely in their room, he cleaned himself up a bit and set out to see a man about a ring.
Jamie had done everything in his power, and managed to finagle a few things that required the power of others, to provide Claire the wedding she deserved. He had no idea what kind of affair her first wedding had been, but clearly, as an English lady of birth and breeding, she would expect a certain level of ceremony. At least he had assumed so. He had wished so urgently to do her honor, to show by his actions how much he respected her, since he could not tell her that he loved her. And he did love her so very much. She had consumed his every waking thought since the day they met. He found her challenging, obstinate, intelligent and utterly bewitching. How the fates conspired to allow him to marry this goddess would forever remain a mystery to him.
His only regret of the day had been his inability to procure her a ring. He had had no money and there had been no time, but it caused him a pang of regret every time her gold circlet flashed on her left hand. He knew she did not continue to wear it as a reproach to him, but he felt keenly the lack of his own ring adorning her slender, graceful hands.
He made his way down the castle steps, excitement blooming in his stomach, when he caught a glimpse of the girl, Laoghaire, just around the corner. He sighed deeply, squared his shoulders and strode forward to meet his duty, unpleasant though it may be. Ever since the day took her beating, Laoghaire seemed always to be lurking in the background wherever he found himself in castle or grounds.
She was a lovely young lass. The day she cornered him in an upper corridor, intent on âthankingâ him for his kindness was a revelation to him, having never seen her as anything but a child before. But she was plump and soft and willing, and he kissed her â more than he should have. He left that encounter feeling slightly guilty because while Leeryâs lips were sweet and pliable, he was thinking of no one but Claire, and how much he longed to have her in his lap, arms about her waist, his lips dancing with hers.
Heâd gone about his business following that encounter, giving the girl no more thought than he spared for any of the wee lassies about the place. Heâd seen her face, however, when he had carried Claire into the castle tonight, and for the first time realized that he had been a might cavalier in his actions towards her and perhaps misunderstood her intentions towards him. And now she was here, lurking about the stairs, trying to catch him alone, no doubt, to confront him about the kissing and the beating and now, about his wife. Well, damn her! He didnât owe her anything, had never made a promise to her or even taken advantage of what was freely offered. All he wanted to do was buy a ring for his wife.
The confrontation was short and uncomfortable, partially because he was unused to discussing his feelings with acquaintances but mostly because he was unwilling to discuss something with this lass that he didnât feel he could tell his own wife. If he couldnât speak of love to Claire, he certainly wouldnât do it with Laoghaire. She left unhappy and Jamie quickly put her out of his mind. If he didnât get to the armorerâs soon he was going to collapse with fatigue.
Ewen had a selection of rings from which Jamie could choose. He made these in his spare time, and while his weapons were things of excellent craftsmanship and beauty, his rings were true works of art. Jamie had spent a small bit of time with him when he was at the castle as a lad and Dougal had commissioned his sword. Ewen had required Jamieâs presence several times as he balanced and honed the blade, ensuring it was perfect for a left-handed warrior. During these visits, Jamie had learned Ewen had the soul of an artist, and expressed his passion in the wee baubies he made for sale to the lucky few who had enough money to buy one of his pieces.
Jamie had first imagined buying Claire one of Ewenâs rings the night they met, on the road back to Leoch and her gold band had flashed in the moonlight. Later, by the fire as she wept and allowed him to comfort and console her, he had imagined taking her hand in his and caressing her fingers while he slipped a circlet of silver over her knuckle, pressing her fingers to his lips. He imagined further, kissing her at an altar, declaring before God and witnesses that he would be husband to her, guard her, provide for her and love her with all his soul and body. His father had been adamant about what it meant to be a husband. It was a manâs holy duty to cherish and revere his wife, an example not provided by Brianâs own father, but one Brian had modeled in his deep and abiding love for Jamieâs mother. Jamie would honor his parents in honoring his wife.
Jamie left Ewenâs with a small wrapped package carefully hidden in his breast pocket. The ring, a wide silver band of interlacing links and highland thistles, represented so much to him. Jamie wasnât as a general rule much attached to things. Items of luxury were rare in the Highlands, and times being what they were, things came and went with great regularity. His parents had taught him that it was better to save his tears for people. So he surprised himself when he bought Ewenâs grandest ring. It took all his coin, plus a few hours of odd jobs at the armory besides, but this ring meant more to him than he could express. A circle of eternity, a never-ending round that embodied his steadfast love for Claire. Heâd waited for another hour while Ewen made the requested addition to the ring, making sure that it would be a perfect representation of his feelings. He wanted Claire to wear it so badly he ached with the thought. He longed to see his ring adorning her finger, telling the world that she had accepted him, that she viewed him as he had viewed himself since the beginning; as her protector, lover and home.
So many men, nearly all that he knew, viewed wives as possessions, much like their land and cattle. To be negotiated over, traded for and used to gain power, influence and heirs. Jamieâs father had never treated his mother this way, and it was a concept that was at once foreign and commonplace to him. When he had tanned Claireâs arse for her disobedience, he had thought he was doing as a man aught. Claire had felt differently, and their subsequent arguments had brought greater comprehension to each. Jamie now understood what Brian had meant about marriage being a partnership. Jamie would never dominate Claire. He couldnât subdue her without breaking her, and in breaking her he would break himself. His only recourse was to move forward with Claire as her equal. The thought was exhilarating to him.
Nearly back to their room, Jamie patted the parcel in his pocket and smiled to himself. This was going to be beautiful.
=====
Jamie awoke in the dark, muzzy with sleep and sore from his exertions. His thighs ached pleasantly, but his back was a different matter. The wee fiend had marked him from shoulder to hip. Well, his resolve not to break her to his will hadnât lasted long, damn the headstrong, prideful woman, and he had done it, by God, but so had she. And he had submitted to her with an eagerness he hoped to repeat many, many times over. Lord, what a night.
Claire sighed in her sleep and snuggled in just a little bit closer to him. Her movement caused the ring to flash briefly in the silvered light of the window, and he caught her hand in his own, feeling the solid hardness of it circling her finger. He kissed her knuckles and moved to take her again. Just seeing her there in his bed, his ring on her, marking her, made his heart swell with pride and left him rigid with want. She sighed again, caressing his cheek vaguely as she slept. Nay, he would not disturb her slumber. There was time enough for that come morning. For now, he would drink in the sweet nectar of her. He would worship her with his eyes and use this time to thank God for the gift of this woman.
âDa mi basia mille.â He whispered into the dark. She hadnât noticed the engraving earlier and he had nearly pointed it out to her, but refrained. She would find it on her own, when the time was right, and she would know. Surely, by then she would know.
