some facts about echolalia
Echolalia IS: • cute • very helpful • important • a form of communication • necessary for a lot of autistic people • fun! • very helpful!!! • a way to engage
Echolalia is USED FOR: • communication • to figure out what was just said or asked • stimming • social scripting • clarification • buying time to figure things out • c o m m u n i c a t i o n
Echolalia IS NOT: • annoying • wrong or bad to use • a sign of not paying attention • making fun of you by copying you • shallow • a sign of a lack of intelligence
With echolalia, when you get a phrase or word or sound in your head does it often come with the physical urge to voice that? And is saying echolalia a form of stimming??
Yep, this is pretty common and echolalia can be a very fun word to say, so yes on both counts.
how to stop repeating almost every sound i hear,,,, saying "bork when my dogs bark, going "wee woo" when hearing a siren, or repeating a bunch of the music in the sims while i play 🙃
Saying “squeak squeak” when someone’s shoes squeak
“cronch” on repeat, in crescendo, while stomping on dead leaves in the fall and winter
That feel when you don’t normally have echographia, but you’ve just woken up from 3 hours of hyperfocus on your SpIn in conlangs/conscripting with 12 full pages of the same 40 symbols:
May I present my application for The Society of Known Autisms
my goblin brain which speaks only in poetry lines and song lyrics, watching these stupid cartoon characters have bad familial relationships: maN hAnds on misERy to man, it dEepeNs like a coaStal sHelf-
me @ my brain: can you please for once in your life shut the fuck up
Echo source poem follows:
This Be The Verse
BY PHILIP LARKIN
They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another’s throats. Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don’t have any kids yourself.
How to stop having outdated memes as echolalia
Ssssnakes sssssizzling sssssausage Also Doodle toot Doodle toot (said in the voice of the neighbor guy from coraline)
Echo source:
There is a danger that “Thirty Under Thirty Media Luminary” is going to become an echo.
repeating “lentils” over and over again until your friends hate you is autistic culture
How to stop silently mouthing the phrase "je ne voudrais pas" over and over, because I'm taking a French class and it makes me stuck on words a lot.
Autism Problems
Echolalia. Hearing something and liking the way it sounds or feels as you say it so you keep saying it every single moment of every single day for weeks, or months until you drive yourself and everyone else mad.
I’ve recently rewatched the movie “clue” and I can’t stop saying Tim Curry’s line “one plus two plus two plus one”
How to not start compulsively singing a line from a song repetitively when you have a sore throat and have been told not to sing.
Lately I’ve been realizing how often I use delayed echolalia to relate to my surroundings and try to join in conversations. It’s usually lines from songs or movies that somehow (sometimes just in my head) have something to do with what’s going on, and I’ll sing or say the line before really realizing that it’s not my words. And often people look at me like my head just exploded. O.o
Anyway, do you have echolalia as part of your autism? How does it present? Any funny stories? I want to know! :)
People who eat nerds like they are taking a shot scare me to the bone
I keep thinking abt this post. How else does one eat nerds??????
Like what do you do?? Pick them all out one by one?? Isn’t it much better to rip the box open and crunch them all at once ?
1) yes 2) fuck you
coward
I completely forgot nerds were a candy for this entire post
Obviously the correct way is to pour out a small amount into your hand and then thp thp thp them with the tip of your tongue like a lizard
Relevant to the previous post
Current echolalia: thp thp thp them like a lizard from that one nerds eating post
