hey for everyone who hasn't read the hail mary book,

some nerdy and/or fun things for u to know to make the movie even cuter/sadder/idk:

rocky speaks via musical notes, as you may have noticed. grace translates these musical notes using. wait for it. a music app. because he is a nerd, to create his translation device he rigs up this music app to... excel spreadsheets!!!! where he is making a dictionary of musical notes and their meanings!!! [LINGUISM NERD]

the first time they meet in the book rocky can only see grace through certain types of material, since other types aren't as conducive to his sonar-type thing. if grace goes behind a non-sonar-compliant material then he freaks out and squeals adorably bc he cant see his new alien friend

the eridians use base six since they have six fingers, technically. (explanation: yk how most of us have ten fingers? that's one of the reasons we count in tens, for example, ten-twenty-thirty-forty etc. the eridians count like six-twelve-eighteen-and so on.)

olesya, who (along with yao, dubois, and etc.) didn't get nearly as much spotlight in the film as she did in the book, wanted to die from heroin overdose bc she'd always been a 'good girl'

hey guys yknow how grace ends up with rocky hand-shaped burn scars after the fishing incident. what if, before grace dies, he mentions that human fingerprints are unique, and rocky decides to get a carving of grace's exact fingerprint so that he will have a permanent physical marker of his saving grace on his body forever too. and once grace dies, he drags a claw over it and listens to the unique sounds it makes and misses him
