despite his best efforts, uzui can feel himself slipping in and out consciousness. while this certainly wasn’t the worst case scenario, it was pretty up there. after all, his wives and the younger demon hunters managed to get away with their lives. his own is a small price to pay for that. even if his wounds and the poison’s pain are starting to mount to a ( nearly ) unbearable level. only winners survive. looking back on his own words, he begins to wonder if that’s true. 

the lick at least makes him grip onto staying awake, upper lip curling as his remaining eye focuses on the demon that has him captured. gyuutarou, his mind supplies.
