While I’m very appreciative of all the positive posts that are provided by some friends on FB & IG , and of everyone who have been taking the initiative of making positive content, I’ve grown a little weary of toxic positivity because in a lot of times it’s hard to detect.
Yes, I understand the importance of keeping our mental health intact at this point of our history, and yes, I know how it feels to want to hang on into whatever provide us with comfort so we could go through another day without major or minor breakdowns, but still, I can’t help but to think of all those posts that says stuff like: I can’t wait for things to get back the way they were before so I could do so & so or go to so & so... Like sis, the way things were before is the exact reason why we ended up here??
People who have absolutely no intentions of making any change or adjustments to their lives at this point of time terrifies me. Knowing that they own such mindsets and can have negative influence on the quality of our lives and health directly or indirectly just terrifies me.
Our patterns of consummation of raw materials and natural resources was and still problematic, the way we look at and consider livestock and wildlife is problematic, our diets are problematic, our purchasing habits are problematic, even our traveling systems are still problematic to a large extent. So no, things shouldn’t go back to its same old ways, if there is a perfect time for making changes that would modifies the course of humanity for the better, then it’s now.
This situation is confronting, it's cruel, it's demanding, it’s testing but then again, so is life? Maybe staying at home for too long made all those feelings of worrisome, fear and loneliness magnified? And maybe looking up for the near future is some people's way of coping with all these negative news, but toxic positivity is not going to solve a thing.
I wish if we all would start to consider better alternatives in our way of living.
