Fanfic Author Appreciation Day
So first of all, I know I’m a day late to the party. My day yesterday was crazy busy between work and Friday night plans. But can I just tell you how much every tag and every message meant to me? Yesterday afternoon, actual tears came to my eyes because of all the love I was feeling directed at me. So THANK YOU. I am going to get to individual thank yous later on this weekend, when I have a little more time. You know who you are, and please know how much it means to me that you enjoy reading what I put out there and take time out of your busy days to like, reblog, comment, or say thank you. This is what I want to do to y’all:
Writing is hard. Sharing it is even harder. There are so many talented writers in the Olicity fandom, and it’s been incredible to get to know so many of you over the last few months. When I first joined Tumblr, I had no notion of ever sharing any of my fics. I had ideas galore, but was content to just comment here and there. The talent and support just blows me away. I may not always get a chance to comment on every fic I get tagged on and read, but please know that I think it’s amazing that you are putting yourself out there. You are taking time out of your day, you are sharing a bit of who you are, and you are letting yourself be vulnerable and putting it out there for the world to see. That takes confidence and courage, and I cannot stress enough how awesome it is, writers. Know that I value your contributions. They have made my fandom experience even better than I could have possibly imagined. Go you!!!
One of these days I’ll get around to putting together a fic rec post. That is not today. But I want to give a shout out to some of the incredible authors in the fandom that brighten my day.
First, any post I make about writing would be completely remiss without including a HUGE shout out to rfilion. No, she hasn’t written any Arrow fic (yet…I got her to agree to tackling a cowritten one with me in the future ;)). No, she doesn’t have fic published for you to read. But over the last eight years, she has been an incredible writing partner. We bounce ideas off each other constantly, for fan fic and for original work. She’s challenged me to become a better writer and create flawed, real characters. Without her (and her fierce “post the damn thing or I’ll post it for you” attitude), I would not be near the writer I am today. So thank you, and IC, KEEP ON WRITING. Or else certain characters will get even more on your nerves than normal. ;)
mrsd923 and sailorslayer3641. You ladies are the best fellow Musketeers a girl could ask for. I LOVE reading your fics, I love hearing your ideas, and I love poking at both of you and telling you to go write it now, dammit. And to think it all started with some random speculation posts. If you aren’t following these ladies or reading their fics, do it now.
pinklunchboxrevenge, nikkibeckettcsm, and aubvi, my fellow Smoakin’ Archers…I love seeing your new fics on my dash, but I love your friendship and the hilarious ideas that come out of the conversations even more. I’m still looking forward to y’all’s speculation fics…and all the other goodness that’s just demanding to be written.
machawicket - You were the very first Olicity author I read, even before I created a Tumblr. Thank you for your multitude of fics, from angst to smut to perfectly capturing the humor and sass of my favorite fictional couple.
arrows-and-fairytales - Gabby, you were my first follower, and your ficlets brightened my dash as I was trying to navigate the craziness of Tumblr. I still get ridiculously excited when I see you have a new fic posted.
There are so many more things I could say about each and every writer in this fandom, but I am going to leave it to this: check out the ladies above, and the wonderful authors I am about to list. They will make you laugh, cry, flail, and type incoherently. They will make you fall in love with your favorite characters even more. Go give them a read, a hug, a comment…just go check them out.
