For those of you who wanted to hear it. I can also adjust it to sound extra buried underground even.
My Padmé books quest continues! Queen’s Peril was just as good, but I’m sad it was shorter. I wanted more. Overall 8/10.
The introduction with parallels to Leia absolutely wrecked me. Having just read the novelization of The Phantom Menace I appreciated the way the events that overlapped the film montaged in a bit. Focusing on filling in scenes or establishing chronology rather than rehashing things. My inner child who loved Padmé and couldn’t understand why the “boring politics stuff” annoyed everyone is absolutely thriving. Sad there’s only one book left.
june is over... goodbye pride month, hello disability pride month!!
let's all be disabled this month... together 🤝
if you're not disabled yet: no need to worry! i can help. come closer.
Contemporary art haters will be like "i don't get it" and then not read the title or artist statement or the medium or the year or
tweet sequence of a not-quite-friend and artist i admire that i find myself thinking of constantly
I've seen some posts trying to make fun of former gifted kids by comparing them to former student athletes who insist that they could have gone pro if not for a specific injury, and those posts always backfire, because my reaction to them is "You're right, we should treat former student athletes with more compassion than we currently do"

I’m finally reading the new Padmé novels by E. K. Johnston. So far, less than a third of the way in, 10/10 no notes. Incredible. Beautiful. We have Women supporting women, lesbians, arts, politics, unrelenting hope in the face of adversity, standing up to evil.
I finished the audiobook for the first one in the series finally. I really loved it. Incredible character study on Padmé, her handmaidens, and what it means to be someone. Absolutely will be picking up physical copies of these to add to my Star Wars library.
This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.
I would actually go as far as to say that MOST abuse is unintentional. I think most people will go through their lives without ever experiencing intentional abuse. People are abusive because they're selfish, because they're stressed, because they care more about what society thinks they should do than the impacts of their actions on their children and partners, because they think what they're doing is correct, because they've made it make sense in their own heads, because they think they can fix their victims, they think they can fix their relationships, they think they can stop you from leaving, they think they can make you a better partner to them, they think that means you need to do what they want. We've sort of constructed mental illness in a way that doing this shit to other people counts as a form of mental illness because it is anti social behavior in the literal sense— it is behavior that causes social harm.
I don't say any of this to excuse it. I think everyone needs to be more aware of this because if you think abuse has to be intentional you will never realize you are capable of abusive behavior. You will never realize you are being shitty to the people you love, because YOU know what you mean, YOU know you don't mean any harm. But you're doing harm. You need to pay attention to the impact you have on other people, and you need to do it all the time, Especially when you feel least capable of doing so. Sorry! You live in a society. Get your head out of your ass.
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:

ID / TL;DW: young Black man explains the history of voodoo dolls: they originated in England, where Black people where prohibited from learning to read or write, to help witches keep track of what ailed their patients. Eg., person goes to witch and laments headache, they treat their headache and make a small doll (called "poppet"), trying to represent them as good as possible, stick a needle in its head and put it up a shelf. When they return next week, the witch takes their poppet and asks about their headache. If it's gone, they remove the needle, otherwise they know they have to treat a rather persistent headache.
I'm just gonna freeze-frame this for everybody:
Gonna correct the TL:DW here
The video is cut so it's less clear than in the longer YouTube video, but the poppets are separate entirely. English 'witches' would create poppets as a way of expressing their own frustration or anger. Poppets generally were faceless dolls that might have had the hair or a scrap of fabric from a person. This is similar to say burning a guy fawkes effigy.
The Voodoo dolls are separate in origin, created by enslaved spiritualists as a record keeping device bc it was otherwise illegal for them to keep formal records.
Highly recommend the full video from the Try Guys.
