Hnngascshdudjfpdvs, so much I love about this!
So first of all, not only is Miles known by practically every member of law enforcement in the district, so is Gumshoe.
Portsman claims the prosecutors have a bet running for when Gumshoe will finally be fired and with the way Miles reacts it seems to be true. Not sure if all prosecutors participate but at least enough that Miles knows about it even if he doesn't take part in it himself.
And this is so precious to me: So several of his colleagues have a bet running about when his partner will finally screw up so much that he has to be fired and Miles knows about this yet he's not at all bothered by it or unwilling to continue to have Gumshoe as his partner. With that kind of infamy among prosecutors I imagine he often gets asked why he keeps such an incompetent detective around or even mocked for choosing to associate with someone like that. Not that Miles is one to bend to peer pressure but it makes me feel all fuzzy inside knowing Miles probably regularly defends his work relationship with Gumshoe. (The manga even shows him do so!)
I also love how awkwardly Miles tries to lie (!) to Gumshoe about there being no such bet. Miles who isn't one for white lies and usually doesn't mince words, especially towards Gumshoe, still chooses to try to protect his feelings here. He's not very good at it but Gumshoe still believes him (because of course he does). Why are they so cute?!
