Alec, I know I'm hiding behind the anon feature, so you probably won't know who I am, but all the same... I wanted to apologize. It's been two years, so I don't even know if you remember me or what happened, but I'm sorry. I miss having you around, even if we maybe weren't that great for one another. I jumped to some potentially wrong conclusions, without even talking to you first, and that was wrong of me. I wish I wasn't afraid to show my face and make amends. I'm sorry.

VALIDATION FOR HOW I SAW EDGEWORTH, EXCELLENT. I mean, it makes sense, given what I’ve been told about the Japanese court system and how prosecutors run investigations and how the police are relied on to do their jobs so that by the time a case goes to trial, all the work has basically been done, but VALIDATION NONETHELESS. And I think that puts Edgeowrth’s character into context really, really well: He trusts the police to do their job (whether that trust is rightfully placed or not is a central theme to this case, I suspect) and so he really believes that the people he’s prosecuting are all guilty, even when it’s obvious to the player that they’re not. And that explains a whooooole lot about how Edgeworth has behaved up to this point and probably will be a main point of his characterization going forward, too.

Even though I already thought Mitsurugi was a good guy because he helped Naruhodou in the third case, this was the actual moment when I was seriously shocked like “Holy crap! Prosecutor like that is REALLY hard to find.”

Because I know Japanese police and prosecutors NEVER trust each other in the real life. They totally despise and always compete with each other, even when they work together on same case. So when I played this game for the first time and saw this scene, I was stunned. Prosecutor who sincerely trusts the police? Prosecutor who gladly works together with detectives, like they are some kind of, partners? That’s impossible. That prosecutor would be a totally stupid idealist and romanticist, who would pursue some kind of nonsense like truth and justice, rather than his own career… Oh.

I’ve never been to America so I don’t know how it works in California. But believe me, Mitsurugi is an unbelievably fair and just and virtuous prosecutor in Japan. He never accepts bribes, sincerely trusts the police, always loves his work and gives everything to solve his cases, seeks the truth of the case rather than his victory, even helps the defense although they’re enemies. He’s not afraid to fight against his corrupted superiors when it comes to truth and justice. Such prosecutor cannot exist for real.

So I fell in love with him.
