Renewal of vows for Darrel and Mitchi
Renewal of vows for Darrel and Mitchi
You could say Darrel and Mitchi’s celebration was 50 years in the making.
And you’d be right, as 50 years ago on November 30, 1968, the couple held a special ceremony and became husband and wife. Darrel was still in the US Air Force at that time and taking a bit of time off for their wedding celebration.
Now, they had their children and grandchildren serving as their bridal party. Mitchi walked…

Clinton High senior Kylie shows off some special moves! (at EMC Photography) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp8dZCxFPhE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=eef8zu2curs5
Ever wonder where your American Flag should go when it becomes tattered, torn and worn out? The AmVets in town along with our Clinton's Ace Hardware accept them. And they begin a voyage to proper retirement. Clinton Boy Scout Troop 142 had their annual ceremony with the AmVets assisting to dispose of hundreds of flags. I created this video to not only show off their work, but to add in a bit of explanation as to what happens to dispose of Old Glory with dignity.
Julianne and Shannon's Wedding Day Celebration
Julianne and Shannon’s Wedding Day Celebration

Awesome wedding!
Met up a couple of gals last year, Julianne and Shannon, who were planning a very cool wedding and found my photography as lucky enough to capture their special day.
Krystal and I had met up with Julianne about five years ago, when she was the maid of honor for Conchita and Jonathon’s wedding in Champaign. Every wedding is special and different…

Go Clinton Wrestling Club 2018! (at Clinton High School (Clinton, Illinois))
Krystal and I were standing there, minding our own business, at a Bloomington bridal show a bit more than a year ago looking for wedding couples.
You know — the usual, things photographers do at bridal shows. Hand out pens. Show off our gorgeous canvas wraps and our wonderful wedding albums. Talking with folks.
And, suddenly this familiar blonde appears with this young guy in tow. And tells us we need to shoot her wedding next year.
I did my usual confused look — and realized this young lady was Ashley. Ashley, as in a high school senior from not so many years ago. Alison’s daughter who had been part of many a family photos with Mike.
Ashley — Alison and Micheal’s daughter. Ashley, one of the bridesmaids in her mom’s wedding.
Cool.
The young guy in tow, Bobby. Her fiancé.
Mom’s Wedding
Her mom’s wedding was not that many years ago, back in 2009. Alison made a gorgeous bride with her groom, Michael and I had not doubt Ashley would do the same. I’ve included one of their wedding photos with the other neat photos on this blog.
Needless to say, we were thrilled to speak to her and Bobby.
Even more thrilled to book them for their wedding day, which took place back in September.
Alison along with her bridesmaids on her wedding day, including Ashley, a few years ago.
The wedding took place at St. Patrick’s of Merna with a reception following at Eastland Suites.
The bride, gorgeous, of course. She chose the perfect gown — from Country Lace Bridal (the Allure collection).
The groom, well, a bit nervous but ready to go in his tux from the Men’s Wearhouse. He did have his groomsmen to keep him entertained as they waited for the ceremony to start.
Wedding Letters
They did one thing that I had never had a bride and groom do before — and found to be neat. Many brides and grooms write their own vows these days for their wedding. Something not possible when getting married at a Catholic church. Instead they wrote letters for each other and then exchanged them during the first look.
Loved both of them on this part, making this even more emotional first look.
Reggie visits!
After the ceremony we headed to Miller Park for some fun photos. And they were able to visit with their favorite puppy, Reggie! Their doggie visited to make sure he was not left out of the photos from the day.
Ashley and her favorite dog (well, her only dog, but still her favorite) exchange a kiss during a visit to the park after the wedding ceremony.
Cuddles and Cuteness ensued. Reggie had fun! The bridal party added to this, of course, as the bridesmaids discovered their dress could be quite customizable.
And then off to the reception — with a fabulous meal — at Eastland Suites.
Of course, the day’s embarrassing moments were not complete yet. The DJ, Faith Rinker from Glass Slipper Entertainment, brought the Hat Game to the floor for them. And provided a bit of fun in answering a few personal questions in front of their family and friends.
All in all, a good day.

Well, at least one of the bridesmaids wants to watch the bride during her first dance! Okay, maybe the others are taking a photo or two.

Ashley is not totally sure about how she should answer the question
Time for some crazy dancing!

Wedding for Ashley and Bobby Krystal and I were standing there, minding our own business, at a Bloomington bridal show a bit more than a year ago looking for wedding couples.
Weddings are always a time of emotion. Kylie and Cody held true to that standard for their fall wedding.
Joy, laughter, tears, happiness, sadness and much more.
When Kylie and Cody first booked with us, we had no idea what kind of wild roller coaster her wedding planning would end up being. The sadness took the form of Cody’s mother passing away unexpectedly. She was definitely not forgotten and everyone knew she was there in spirit.
Spectacular Location
Originally planned for farm wedding. Then a very small wedding with only family. Finally a big celebration down in Pana at Oak Terrace Resort & Spa.
If you’ve never been there, it’s worth visiting. South of Pana, home to a huge golf course, a spa and a resort. Beautiful spot in Central Illinois.
Better shot
Cody, an avid hunter, found himself bagged by a bride who not only knows how to hunt, but is rumored to be a better shot. Well, that’s what was agreed upon during the Shoe Game run by the DJ from Clinton’s own Always Jammin’ DJ Service and Light Show.
I won’t get into the debate. The only thing I know how to shoot is a camera. I’d ask them who the better shot is.
The day was perfect . . . warm but not hot . . . a little clouds to break up the bright blue sky and some breezes. It was so easy finding picturesque scenes around Lakeview Spa. It was a matter of putting the bride in pretty places and shooting in her gorgeous wedding dress. The dress was from David’s Bridal and designed by Oleg Cassini.
Crazy Drama
Of course, wedding week presented a bit of crazy drama. The original officiant cancelled that Monday before. Kylie’s Aunt Jenny took on the role of officiant, getting her certificate just that week to perform the ceremony. Her first wedding and she did an absolutely awesome job!
I have to mention the nights festivities. This was the first wedding I ever went to that definitely could get the whole group on a complete sugar high. A cupcake bar, candy bar, popcorn bar plus an ice cream/slushy bar. That was fun!
Supporting Cast
Have to mention a few of the other vendors who made this day spectacular — the pumpkins and gourds scattered all over the place came from Wagon Wheel Pumpkin Farm in Clinton. Some of the very special cupcakes and the wedding cake were created by Janet’s Cakes in Bloomington. And the clothes the boys wore actually came from Big R in Springfield — making for the very casual style worn by the groom and groomsmen.
Kylie had some special boots just for her from Ritzy-Gypsy Boutique/Gypsy Boots.
Check out the photos to see all the color they had, a true fall wedding!

Signature Shots
We recently blogged a photo of Liz and Cole’s wedding with geese flying above them. And we had a few people ask about the lead photo at sunset of them with the birds at Erin’s Pavilion (here). Not the technical details behind it, but the why of it and what we actually call it. We call them our Signature shots. Some photographers call it their epic shot. And some don’t try for…

Liz and Cole's Wedding day celebration
Liz and Cole’s Wedding day celebration
We headed out on a Friday afternoon to Springfield and a pretty new wedding spot — Erin’s Pavilion at Southwinds Park in the southern part of our capital city. The event, rehearsal before wedding day for Cole and Liz!
We’ve been working with Cole’s family for a number of years — starting from a phone call asking us about taking some photos of him and his sisters, Shanae and Hannah, as a special…

Introducing baby JJ!
Little JJ holds his dad’s finger
Our friend Shelby and her fiancé Akeem brought us a wonderful subject a few weeks ago — a little baby who overcame the huge adversity of being born very very early. Meet JJ!
This wonderful little guy did make life an adventure — he was far more curious about what was going on than interested in sleeping, but we did manage to get some wonderful photos that we…

Went out hunting and bagged a mate!
Folks meet and fall in love all the time. Over dinner, movies, ski trips, hunting trips and much more. We’re looking forward to working with Kylie and Cody later this year on their wedding day but wanted to share a bit more of an unusual engagement shoot as they pulled out their gear for a shoot. And not the kind of shoot that I’m used to talking about.
This one involved rifles and not cameras.…

Playing at Robert Allerton Park
Playing at Robert Allerton Park
Just a bit of a dip and kiss!
There are many nice and beautiful places to shoot photos — but among my favorites happens to be Robert Allerton Park in Monticello. And Katherine and Jack had not been there in a while so it seemed like the perfect place to go for their engagement photos. And it was!
From the beautiful grounds, to the woods and all the way to the mansion itself we had no problems…

Shawnale and Jerry downtown
Shawnale and Jerry downtown
Shawnale and Jerry reminded me that there are so, so many cool places to shoot in downtown Peoria on Sunday!
Now, we did have to fight off at least two other pro photographers around where we were working but no matter, these two took it all in stride. And they did the most important thing on an engagement shoot.
They were themselves and had fun! Even when I asked them to do what I love to do…

CLINTON -- Ed Cicenas was one of those people who hated having his picture taken, so he made a move to the other side of the lens.
People talk about promoting themselves. And they find many ways to do it. But, it is amazing what can happen when you promote yourself by being yourself. Call it karma if you like, but it is amazing what happens when you work with your community and spend time with your community.
A little matter of love!
A little matter of love!
Just a normal, everyday bridal show. Folks talking to wedding vendors. We were meeting with lots of brides (and a few grooms) when this guy suddenly yelled “Krystal” and proceeded to give Krystal a big hug.
Now, as a matter of course, this is not unusual for us. But usually I recognize the person — at least a little. Nope.
It was pretty obvious he knew Krystal and one of the first things I think…
