rosehip tea!
Rosehip tea: Which book did you love when you were younger?
Soooo many but one of my very favorites (still my go-to answer when students ask what my favorite book is) was Matilda by Roald Dahl! I spent hours trying to move things with my mind and fantasizing about Miss Honey adopting me. Then I grew up and became a teacher and decided the best thing I could do would be to try to be Miss Honey every day.
strawberry tea, kombucha
Strawberry tea: Tell me about your first kiss, if you had one.
I had a couple kisses that I kind of consider “firsts.” My literal first kiss was during a game of spin the bottle or truth or dare or something like that in 8th grade with this girl Niki who was my best friend at the time. In retrospect I probably had a crush on her. My actual first real kiss was with my first real boyfriend in 9th grade and we were sitting in our theatre library (which was basically just a teeny tiny room with a bunch of plays and a computer and a chair and a minifridge) and I kind of remember saying something about Shakespeare and then he did that thing where he lifted my chin up and then he kissed me. It was incredibly sweet and respectful and lovely. He’s a good person.
And then my first kiss with a girl that was actually like...not a party game...was in 10th grade with this girl I’d been crushing on for a little while, but she had a boyfriend, but they’d been dating for a couple months and things were moving really slowly, and she kept flirting with me constantly. This story is so stupid telling it now, but she and I were hanging out on campus one night after a performance of this site specific student written devised play about teen homelessness that we were both volunteering at as ushers, and it was the two of us and a couple other people. And they were kind of teasing her about how she and her boyfriend hadn’t really done anything yet, and she was basically like, “Yeah I know, it’s ridiculous, like we haven’t even done THIS,” and then turned to me and we kissed. She broke up with him the next day. But in a weird twist of fate they started dating again after college and now they live together. The world is a strange place.
