Another week, another happenings. This week, we are super busy because of some major and other subjects gave their final examination for this semester. So, we couldn`t find time to finish our MVP and our pitching video presentation entry.

But this isn`t a hindrance to make it. We are slowly progressing on our pitch deck and we are will finish our MVP this tomorrow, Monday. We are just concern on the mechanism that we will be using to switch the pen. But we are working on it.

As for the presentation, we will make a video right after we finish our MVP. We are just worrying because the time is limited and the pitching is fast approaching.

We are hoping that the panel will like the MVP that we are presenting and we hope that they can easily get the concept. If they are still not into it, then we will defend the MVP for them to reconsider.

This week, Ma`am Jabile told us to make a business plan and brochure for the final pitching. We then it immediately to avoid late submission. Our brochure is composed of the things and specs for our MVP. We will be presenting it next week.

As for our business plan, we are still working on it because it is too long to think and type. As for its content, we (my team) already discussed on what it should be composed of. But still, some areas on the business plan, we might not include it because we don’t know what to write.

As for our MVP, we still don’t have any substitute or alternative mechanism to put on the switchable pen. We don’t have any vacant this week due to some quizzes and projects to be made and passed next week (before finals). We are hoping that we can make it and done it on time before pitching.

Next week, we will be presenting our brochure and the update of our MVP to the class. We already have a plan on how to deliver it as it must be presented last week. We will finish our business plan next week.

This week, Ma`am Lagura was substitute by Ma`am Jabile. We didn`t had a discussion because we still Sir Bronson is still not around. Ma`am Jabile only asked about the update of our start up and after that she asked about the validation. She also asked the MVP because there is only 1 month remaining before final examination.

Honestly, we didn`t had much time for our startup this week because we had final examination in one of our major subjects and we needed to study so we focused on our major. But we planned on resuming the making of our MVP.

Also, the other section was asked to make a brochure for their startup maybe because Ma`am Jabile wants to analyze and catch up to what we have done and what we are about to do. So, we already have a plan on what to put on the brochure and the design.

We are hoping that Sir Bronson will be having a lecture this Monday because we know that we have so much lessons and discussions to learn before final examination and pitching comes or otherwise, we will be rejected and declined again.

This week, we didn’t had any lecture because Ma’am Lagura had to leave for 3 months (as what I’ve heard) and Sir Bronson is out of town for 3 weeks. So, we used the time to find a small and thin pen that we’ll be using for out MVP. But still, we didn’t find any.

We even went to hardwares just to find alternative but we didn’t. So, we decided that we might be making a pen out from old ones and make it thinner just to fit on the body of our MVP. We are still working on it.

In terms of the switchable mechanism, we found out that it will be changed because we can’t find any thinner pen from stores. Because of this, it will also be difficult as we will be making a mechanism for the spring to work as the trigger of the switchable. Also, we are still working on it.

Over all, we can’t finish the MVP on the time that we set (which is next week). But still, we are in hurry just to finish it. We hope that next week will be a more productive one.

This week, we found some instructors who used projectors and powerpoint as their teaching tools. We immediately asked them if it is convenient for them if they use powerpoint presenter. Then we asked again if what if there is a product that is a combination of presenter and a switchable pen. Then most of them immediately answered that it would be great.

We then introduced our lo-fi and most of them laughed because the lo-fi we presented was ridiculous. At first, they had a difficulty because it was their first time using it. But as they used it, they got the hang of it. After the class, they said that it was ridiculous at first (because it is lo-fi) but in the end, it is comfortable to use and convenient for them.

We went to store to buy the materials needed so that we can start making the MVP. But we had difficulty in finding the small pen that we should use. We can’t use the regular whiteboard pen because it is too thick to be used as a switchable.

As of now, we are searching for alternative way to put the switchable pen. We are also preparing for the powerpoint that we will be using for Monday’s presentation. We hope that we can finalize out MVP as soon as possible so that we can polish it.

Heyers Fellas! Another weekend, another happenings.

This week, our hands are full. Why? It`s just because we had so many tasks done by this week. We need more validation, we need to make a presentation of our update to be presented this coming Monday, and we need to finalize our start-up because we only have less than 2 months before the final pitching and presentation of the hi-fi MVP.

So, last week, we did some validation and it is not enough so we did more validation this week. In order for our potential customer to evaluate our product, we made a very lo-fi which composed of the white board pen attached to the power point presenter by a scotch tape. But unfortunately, most of the potential customers that we asked last time are not conducting any lectures and discussion because they only gave quizzes to their students (due to 1 week no class last week).

We then went to another schools to find another potential customers and fortunately, we found few instructors that are using power point in lectures. As always, they gave some criticism because of the lo-fi that we presented but after we explained the process, they immediately agreed to try it. Most of them said some negative feedback like “It might too big in actual product.” So, we noted their suggestions and comments to improve our MVP.

For now, we are currently making the power point for next week`s presentation. We are finalizing our user persona, and we also changed our BMC. We found the pain, gain, and the job to be done. We also made a script so that all of the member in my team can present the power point. We will still continue our validation next week to finalize the product.

Blog #9

This week, we don’t have classes due to holidays. Monday was National Heroes Day and Tuesday was Cagayan de Oro City Festival. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were the schedule for the university intramurals.

So, this week was supposedly our second week validation but due to the said holidays and event, we agreed on validating to other school. But sadly, two of my teammates are one of the chaperones of the athletes for the intramurals. Also, we must be present in school for the 4-day intramurals to sign our activity card.

There is also a notice signed by school officials that classes won`t be conducted because of the school intramurals. So, we decided to do the validation next week as the classes resume. In order to not waste the time, we went to malls and stores and tried to examine if how the other presenter works and operates. And we saw that it arranges Php 300 to Php 2,000.

We are currently planning on some aspects if it will be click to the instructors. We are also working for the final mechanism of the switchable pen. So far, we are hoping that we can finish the assigned tasks, and validations on time so that we can proceed to the next step.

This week and last week are stress week. Why? Because last week was our midterm exam and this week is our pitching week. Though our schedule is full, we still manage to make the pitch deck.

The pitch deck was made with enough information. We studied the concepts, the parts, and the start-ups and products that can be useful for our Presentation Pen. We validated our start-up to know if it will be really click to the market. We started validating in the university`s instructors and they made comments and suggestions. All of them liked the concept.

Before pitching, we already list some possible questions that might be thrown to us. We already guessed that they will ask about the validation of the start-up and we answered it that we validated in the university. But Sir Bronson wants us to make an MVP that can be used by the instructors and let them try if they like it or not.

So for now, we are still finalizing the Presentation Pen in order for the instructor to use it conveniently. We are hoping that they will use our Presentation Pen. We also hope that they will give us negative feedbacks because this will prove that they are using it seriously. If they will give us positive feedback then it will be still good because at least they use it.

As the pitching approaches, we did many validations for our portable tumbler. What we noticed was that many people even if they don’t always travel, they want to use portable tumbler especially mothers who have students. But the only problem is that they can`t afford to buy it because it is too expensive for them. So, we think of another start up and we came up of an idea. The multipurpose pen.

We came up of this idea as Ma`am Lagura is talking in front. One of my teammates said that what if we make a pen can be used in both blackboard and whiteboard. The concept is just like the magic pen that can switch colors. So, the pen will look like an ordinary whiteboard pen but it can be switched to a chalk. To add more features, we will put a PowerPoint USB wireless presenter that has laser for PowerPoint presentation. Our main target for this startup will be the instructors and teachers that uses PowerPoint presentation in discussing their lectures.

We already began validating the multipurpose pen as soon after we decided what it will book like. We went to USTP faculty rooms and asked some instructors if they are willing to use the product or not. And to our surprise, all of the faculties that we validated were fascinated and want to use test it immediately. But of course, we only presented a drawing for presentation. Also, some made suggestions like adding volume for the speaker and we hope that we are still trying a way to add this feature.

For now, we are still researching for the parts and we are finalizing how the product will look like in order to make a sample one. We are also preparing for the pitching and we will be using this start up for the incoming pitching next week. We will validate more to get more comments and suggestions of what they want.

This week is a very hard week. Why? It is because this week is might be the last presentation for the project proposal and yet, we still don’t know what to do. So, we stick to our first proposal.

We told Ma`am Lagura that we will continue our first project and she told us that we (my team) shall answer the comments/questions sent by Sir Bronson in slack. Here is our answers:

1. We already asked some potential users and majority said that they are willing to try it if it will work.

2. This Portable Dispenser might be little expensive but compared to the Dispenser we are using nowadays, it is much cheaper. the users will be travelers.

3. Php 2000-2500

4. It is handy and portable so it is not so heavy and it can be carried anytime. battery and water are the only factor that can make it heavy.

5. All of the members in the teams has the capability to make the project because the parts and steps of making the product is part of our course— Mechanical Engineering.

With this, we continued validating by asking more people. We conducted in our respective barangay. As here in my place, I asked “Are you willing to use a portable dispenser that can be carry anytime and it has the same size as the tumbler?”. Most of them replied “Of course! Only if there is like that dispenser, then I am willing to buy it”. While to my surprise, some said that “Is it really possible? Then how cold and how hot it can make?” while staring to me.

I learned while I am validating the start-up that not all people have the same perspective. I don’t know. Maybe they are also curious as I am about this start-up.

Also, we presented to the class the business model canvass (BMC) of our start-up and explained how will it be made and also its potential customers. So for now, we are still continuing the validation to verify whether it is marketable or not.

Blog #5

This week, a lot of things happened.  First is the announcement if the project proposal is approved or not. Second is the presentation of the Business Model Canvass (BMC). Lastly is finalization of the project for next week`s second proposal.

Let`s start with announcement of the project proposal. So our start-up was questioned by Sir Bronson. “The practicality of the solution is not well validated. If this tumbler is expensive, who will be the potential users? How much would it sell? How heavy is the tumbler given too many materials composing it? Who from the team have the technical skills to execute this?” he said. We thought that we are the only group that was declined but we were surprised that all of the proposals in our class were rejected.

We then presented the BMC in the class. Because our first proposal was rejected, we proceed immediately to our plan b. The plan b is the lunch box that can heat the inside. So if you are a student or worker and having trouble in preheating your meal, you can easily heat it if you are using this lunch box.

As we present the BMC, Ma`am Lagura somewhat didn`t agree that it will be a nice start-up because it is slightly the same with the first project. So we we`re planning on revising the first project in a way that we can answer Sir Bronson`s questions. We are hoping that they will consider and hear our side and opinions this next meeting. Now, we are currently making the BMC for the revised project and will be presenting it to the class.

Blog #4

This week, we had a lecture on scalable and non-scalable products. This will test the product`s range of demand or how many people are willing to buy and use it. This will make you conclude if you want to take the risk. Also, this will be your guide to the product that you will make because of the number of demand.

We also had a discussion about the startup that we presented last week. Sir Bronson said that we will hear the result on Thursday but sadly, we don’t have the answer yet from him. It might because of the instructors that will judge our startup might have some business or work to do. But Sir Bronson also said that if there are no announcement, then we will decide if we will continue our startup or not and proceed to the proposal for our plan b.

We then had a lecture series last Friday. The guest speaker is the founder and currently CEO of the Streetby application that can be downloaded from play store or app store. He told us the whole story on how and why he created the application. This application will accommodate the travelers if they don’t know the place that they want to go. Just simply open the application, and search the place you want to go then something will appear on the screen. You can find the famous food, restaurants, tourist spots, hotels, and many more about the place.

For now, my team will still stick to our plan A unless Sir Bronson will reject our proposal and tell us to not continue the startup. But still, we are preparing for the worst. Our plan b is ready to be presented. We (my team) also discussed on how scalable it is. It will be used by anyone as it is convenient to use.

Blog #3

This week, we presented our proposal to the class. We presented for a maximum of three minutes only. Though it is too short, we still manage to give the important details to convince our instructors to accept our proposal. We presented our plan A that gives us a higher chance to be accepted.

We didn’t have a lecture last Tuesday because of a bad weather condition. But still, we (my groupmates) manage to meet and discussed some things about if what will happen next if our proposal will be approved. On the other hand, we also discussed the plan B in case we will be declined. But we are hoping that we will be accepted.

Last Thursday, we (my groupmates) talked about the areas that we will be visit to asked if they are having hard time bringing hot and cold water. Or instead, buy from store because the coldness of their water that they will bring will wear out. We will also asked if what if there is a hot and cold tumbler, will they be willing to buy and use it instead of buying cold water  if they can`t bring some.

We are hoping we can start our survey on the areas that we will be asked. These plans will be all done next week depending on some aspects. In doing so, we need the approval for our proposal. So for now, we are waiting for the reply of our instructor if our proposal is approved or not.

If last week was a hell week, well this week is another challenging week to share! Let`s start last Monday. We didn`t had a lecture because Sir Bronson had something to attend to, so we used the time to finalize our ideas for the proposal next week. We had some difficulties in selecting the final because Ma`am Lagura said that we need to choose one startup only that will serve as our plan A. Then select another one to be the plan B in case our plan A will be rejected (we hope not!).

We presented our milestone to the class that guide us and be our project schedule for the entire semester. We decided that my group will use this so we can manage our time and to lessen some misunderstanding. This will be our reference. It states in our milestone that we will be finalizing our startup for the proposal in the 4th week and we are already adapting it.

The challenging part we did was selecting the idea that we will be presenting because we have some negative thoughts that this or that idea will be rejected because it is far from reality. But of course, we know that it is possible and we can do it but it might not be made of what we want it to be. It might have some defects. It might also not work.

We select that startup because it is scalable and can be use by anyone. It is also affordable and easy to use. But if Ma`am Lagura and Sir Bronson will decline our proposal, then we have a plan B that will be our backup. As of now, we are preparing our powerpoint presentation to make it presentable. We are hoping that our idea will be approved.

week 1

First week, first meeting of this subject (technopreneurship) was a surprising event. Who would have thought that we will immediately be forming a group into 4 and brainstorm possible ideas for startup? What`s worst was we couldn`t think of an idea that would click to our instructors and for the future panels that we will be facing. Of course, we thought of some ideas but it weren`t feasible and some were expensive or there are points that we couldn`t do.

I never thought that this subject would be a hard one coz I think this will be like other minor subjects that could be easily pass. But no, just like what our instructor said, this will be the most difficult subject that we ever take. First lecture, Ma`am Lagura introduced our lecturer, Sir Mabulay, and we had a catch-up lecture by that time coz we were late for 1-week lecture because of the activity in gym first day of the school year.

After the first meeting, we were told to watch an American reality series, Shark Tank, where you introduce your product or business to the successful businessmen or simply called “sharks”. With the use of that reality series, we realize the type of questions that might be asked to us about our startup. We also learn some mistakes and good ideas that we might take. But still, those ideas we came up were too much for us to make.

During the second meeting, we were enlightened of the things that we might consider for us to follow for our project and business. We learned that we shouldn`t pick random business coz it is a serious matter even if it is just a project. We learned the questions that we should find in our project before considering the business. With this, we will introduce the milestone of our project (to be presented next week) which tracks our steps and serves as a plan towards the outcome.
