DickTim Week Day 4: Nightwing Tim @dicktimweek
Tim's dreamt about this before.
Kind of a lot, actually.
He's pictured himself running his hands over the sleek, sculpted kevlar of the Nightwing suit at least twice a week since he's been old enough to know that he wanted it, wanted Dick, wanted those casual half-hugs and hair ruffles to be something that lingered.
He just never thought he'd be the one wearing it when his fingers traced the lines of the torso, padded slightly on the inside to make him look broader in the shoulders, bulkier in the chest.
He glances up at Dick, and there's something inside him that catches at the sight of his expression. He looks wistful and maybe a little... proud?
Tim gets the mixed feelings. He does. He can't quite seem to decide on just one, himself.
He thinks he likes this, though. He likes that Dick's trusted him with this.
"Well?" says Tim, and he turns a little, showing off the suit. "How's it look?"
Dick hums, thoughtful; he circles around behind Tim to do another full 360, after Tim's come to a stop. "Hmm. Pretty convincing, baby bird." Then he grins, sudden and bright and playful. "It's not all looks, though. You've got to be prepared!"
"Right," says Tim, instantly all business. "I followed up on that jewelry robbery case you're on in the Financial District, and I know you've narrowed the suspects down for the murder in the university swimming pool."
"Not that," says Dick. "I know you can do that."
Tim falters, slightly. For an instant, something very like anxiety squeezes at his chest.
Of course there's something Dick thinks he doesn't know how to pull off. Nightwing is his; he's built it from the ground up. Handing it over to Tim, with all his shortcomings, must be the hardest thing he's ever done.
"What is it, then?" says Tim. "Whatever it is, just say the word. I'll do my homework."
Dick's grin goes wide and playful. It looks out of place, there beneath Batman's cowl. "Let's hear your best pun."
Silence.
"You're joking."
"The wisecracks are part of the role, Timmy. Gotta make with the quips."
He's still laughing when Tim whaps him with the floppy cloth of one blue-fingered glove and turns to go snag some wingdings out of storage to practice with.

bruce and dick getting drunk together and on purpose? it’s way more likely than any of their friends or family thinks, especially when the worst thing they do once the drinks settle has nothing to do with alcohol (it’s sex)
but it’s not really sex, it’s more like a fuck every time because when they fall into bed together things get intense and desperate. but it’s always so good. then afterwards there’s the usual post coital blues with them, guilt and shame and bruce goes “this can’t happen again.” and dick asks him “how many times are you going to say that?”

anon you are so kind to send me a scenario to add to the rotation just in time for bedtime. lately I have had the "dick gets his leg horribly maimed" one on rotation but it's good to toss in something new now and then.
I think this is probably a rare occurrence for both of them - Bruce in particular despite his whole dark wood and cut glass aesthetic is such a control freak and also has an addictive and depressive personality I think he'd be rightfully kind of wary of alcohol. however sometimes there aren't convenient potted plants to toss your champagne into at the gala or the bartender is in on it at the bar you're surveilling and you can't just ask for tonic water. now that I'm saying this I think Bruce "made dick inhale a bunch of toxins" Wayne might be invested in maintaining a high alcohol tolerance so maybe dick comes in partway through one of his for-the-mission misery sessions. he's enough whiskey deep that he's kind of maudlin but not all the way through his allotted and carefully calibrated 312 mL.
Bruce's rational self is not thrilled about dick seeing him like this. however the rest of him is always pleased to see dick :) dick is kind of freaked out about seeing Bruce like this (i imagine Bruce went on a colossal bender after Jason's death and Alfred told Dick about it later in a vaguely disapproving and guilt-trippy way, and Dick is like oh God what now.) and decides the best way to handle it is to also become drunk in the hopes that perhaps this will encourage Bruce to talk to him.
it does not encourage Bruce to talk to him, unless by talk you mean burst out of nowhere with "you're beautiful. I always meant to tell you and I never did" which is so terrifying a thing to hear from Bruce that Dick kisses him to make him stop talking. cue extremely frantic and desperate handjobs on the couch in the study (does not fit two men of their size) and then again on the stairs and then they try for a third round when they make it up to Bruce's bed but neither of them can get it up.
and then Dick (hungover) tries to sneak out in the morning and Bruce (not at all hungover) wakes up but doesn't stop him and it's awful and they absolutely do not speak about what Bruce said at all.
and then the next month it happens again. yay <3
sometimes you will be reading a comic and suddenly get struck with enlightenment and wonder "huh has anyone shipped these two characters together before". but actually it is the devil talking bc the answer is yes but it's only like 10 other people
