(some guy on the internet voice) it's so unrealistic and forced when women win fights against men in stories. of course, when a young boy defeats a huge man I'm cheering and screaming because it is so badass, and when a frail old man defeats a cocky young warrior I feel nothing but satisfaction. I love these power fantasies about easily dispatching people who underestimate you, a thing I desire despite the fact that I will likely never have the skill to achieve it in real life, but I'm pretty sure women don't have that same desire, and even if they do, they shouldn't get to see it in media. because it's so unrealistic, you see. I mean I'm smart enough to know I can't take down a big man in a fight but the women, you know, they'll get ideas. I could probably do it if I trained hard enough, but the women??? for some reason I can't see it happening, and who can say why that is.

keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it's immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like "yeah so this is going to happen to the internet" and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don't even get paid for it

Reading: I finished People To Follow by Olivia Worley (⭐️⭐️/5) like two days ago. It honestly wasn't that great... but it was entertaining enough so it gets a little bit of a pass.

Last Series: I'm in the middle of watching so many series it's ridiculous but the last series I watched in full was His & Hers (⭐️⭐️/5) on Netflix. Pretty mid (imho) but I liked the final twist. Truly didn't think the story had it in her by that point but she surprised me. It only took them 6 full episodes to get there but they got there so kudos for that one, I guess.

Last Movie: I haven't watched a movie in so long I don't even remember what was the last movie I watched lol 😅.

Last Song: Who We Are by Hozier 🫶

Sweet or Salty: It depends. I have been craving salty lately but I have also been craving chocolate glazed donuts. So I'm gonna say both. First sweet, then salty. Is that healthy? Probably not. But who cares?

Trying to get read some of the more iconic comics with the Joker in them, also the super dictionary its the funniest thing ever. I do also have a physical book i carry around, though its not in english, i’m guessing the title would translate to something akin to Autumn Smoke. I picked it up in a thriftstore because it chaught my attention due to the lack of introduction at the back of the book and the fact that it was released in 1962 and this copy was printed in 1963. From what i was able to find online its apparently written in germany and pro-socialism and anti-nazism in themes. I’m not the biggest fan of socialism but hey widening my horizons and allat

The Count of Monte Cristo (so good so far-weird though because I read an abridged version as a little kid, so some of it feels familiar, some does not), the Failure of Nonviolence (just started it, interesting so far), Assata Shakur’s autobiography (halfway through but would absolutely recommend this to anyone), the Nine Worlds Rising series (Norse mythology based adult romance series-so far so good).

Andor (haven’t finished the second season but the first one is an absolute masterpiece with so many real life revolution inspirations-it’s very relevant right now as well-soooo good)

Secondhand Lions (supposed to be a comedy but makes me emotional for some reason-beware some unfortunate Arab stereotypes similar to live-action Aladdin level of stereotypes, but surprisingly not bad for its time and overall the point of the movie is kinda not to fall for stereotypes, at least in the way I see it, but still good to be aware of-also I totally ship Walter and the sheik’s grandson)

Reading: okay so technically a million things but of what im CURRENTLY attempting to actually read: White fragility by Robin DiAngelo, a book about celtic mythology i dont remember the specific name of, and Ghostland: an american history in haunted places. (technically currently reading but havent read for a couple weeks) Dreadnought, which is about a trans girl superhero, it's excellent so far. andddd a million other books i have started and not finished and occasionally read a chapter or two of. lately a lot of nonfiction, mainly history and archeology and mythology.

Last series: iiiii THINK an episode of poldark? So season 1 of Poldark, overdramatic PBS show that is sometimes painfully straight but gods i love it. Unless jet lag on youtube counts in which case the latest hide and seek season of jet lag. Ben better have a good run or im throwing hands. Last movie: (btw that's wild that you brought up secondhand lions, my grandparents tried to convince me to watch it with them a while ago and i remember looking it up and had decided not to watch it because of some of the more problematic aspects lol) A nice Indian boy. gay romcom with jonathon groff that made me sob for the last 20 minutes of the movie. it's so good, and the generational trauma bits are handled so well and also it's GAY. i've watched a lot of good movies lately tbh, a while ago i watched The Birdcage (most chaotic gay movie ever but was very fun and aged alright for a 90's(?) movie) and Spotlight, a movie based on a true story that i loved as well because it was a movie about journalism (very heavy topic though so beware of that). series: I really don't watch much television but I quite enjoyed smiling friends!!! it's very funny and the art is pretty nice also. the dialog is also very natural, at times it feels like watching a conversation and not a show. id def recommend!!
