When Nobody Believes You

Hello. My name is Carson. Some of you might remember me from when I came out about my rape and abuse/manipulation I suffered at the hands of the youtuber WhatTravisSays (Travis Neumeyer). When friends and family began invading my privacy and grilled me on posts about my recovery and mental well-being, I deleted my original account that had a lot of messages on it. Travis saw this as an opportunity to post a very vindictive video, attacking me, calling me a liar & making it sound like I’m a crazy ass bitch. My inbox immediately flooded with death threats, threats of sending ME to prison, and just general posts threatening violence. I even received messages saying I should just kill myself because I don’t belong on the Earth alive. I posted a video pretty much immediately after I was informed of this; I could barely speak, and as much as I tried to wipe my tears and speak relatively calmly, I was just too much of a wreck to focus on… well, anything, really. I’ve been to the hospital three times in the past year, and the way things are still going, I’ll probably be “checking in” again. I will make another video on this, and this time, I will be able to speak much more calmly about this. In the meantime, here are some screenshots of conversations we had on Facebook when we were together. Not asking for sympathy, I just REALLY feel like it’s important to keep this conversation going, cause I’m sick and tired of people threatening me with death and violence, and to speak for the 20+ other minors who have contacted me. Girls, PLEASE BE SUPER CAREFUL ON THAT SITE, there’s a whole lot of fucked up shit happening behind the scenes, more that the abusive relationship we had, and I’m not just saying this from personal experience; he has fucked and toyed with a lot of people’s emotions, and has used several 13-16 year olds for sex, telling each and every one of them that he “loves you” and “you are the only girl I’m talking to.” So here you go, check it out, and stay tuned for a video.

He’s a creep. I sat back and watched while he fucked around with 3 of my friends at the exact same time (names withheld for obvious reasons), making them very upset and uncomfortable. I hate him, and he can’t stand it.

I think this concerns me because unlike the conversation about someone’s work vs someone’s personality / past in cases like Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, Roman Polanski, Chris Brown, or Eminem, the gap between the viewer and the creator isn’t such a wide gulf. And we know that Travis has reached out to fans on more than one occasion with the result being the fan was left feeling unnerved, confused, abused, harassed, or worse. None of us are telling you that you shouldn’t have enjoyed the content he makes, but only that we’re concerned about the things he’s done because others enjoyed his content, and we don’t want him to keep abusing individuals in his fanbase, or anyone at all, really. Also, don’t use your position of power to discredit people far far below you on the power scale.”) Here are testimonials from fans, with links to support they knew him wherever possible: Carson is the girl in the video and the girl he references in his video. Here are screen caps from there first email exchange where he makes sure she knows he doesn’t reach out to fans often.  JujuBeans360 invited Travis to Internet Prom. His texts made her uncomfortable, especially considering how young she was and how old he was. When she let him know, he reacted poorly.  OtterLovers4Ever has shared that she was a fan who had a romantic relationship with Travis and didn’t want to believe Carson’s story, but slowly as she read accounts from other people, things started to fall into place for her.  And from folks who used to be his friends: Reinix, who said he’s manipulative as fuck, and that though things never got too far, he really did try. Not sure if Sama was a fan first or a friend, but that he’s commented on her video here lets me know they were acquainted. She just echoes Reinix’s sentiments. 

hopeonatenspeed weighed into the conversation about how he tried to manipulate her, and how she realized it quickly, but he tried to tell her that he hadn’t done anything jerky. Not only were they pals, but you can hear her start her Youtube boys get me hot song with a lyric about him. You can also see him everywhere in the comments of that video, and if you listen long enough, you’ll hear her mention FizzyLimon, Justtubed (@thejealousone) and ckXcore, all friends from that skype call.  Justtubed didn’t have any personal uncomfortable interactions with Travis, but I used to chat with him about things years ago and will back me up about the ways in which Travis made me feel uncomfortable, or like he was being shady.  Fizzylimon has been replying in this thread, but he’s spoken about his friendship with Travis, which was formed before either of them really had much of a youtube following. You can read his account of why he’s no longer friends with Travis here.  I’ve posted a ton about this (I’m @Chateauofadoubt). He’s been deleting or hiding my comments on his video on youtube. Here’s a link to a video where you can find, in the description, a link to a comic I made him for his birthday about him making partner, and letting me know about it first. Here’s how I recounted my time with him after seeing Carson’t tumblr post a year ago, before digging up old texts / emails / skype convos. Here’s an email I sent to him, in response to a voicemail he’d left me, after a fight we had on the phone waayyy after he went off the grid, and way after I decided he was a lying, shady dude.

I’m not saying you didn’t know him well enough to be telling the truth. I just don’t believe what you are saying to be completely honest. And also I feel like now you all believe that I need saving or something? I’m a strong independent young woman. If people mess with me, I brush it off my shoulder and if it gets bad enough I tell a trusted adult, I spend my life trying to be helpful and to treat everyone equally and I am hardly ever uncomfortable with anything but most social situations, yet I still have a social life. I don’t need you guys to tell me how bad Travis is, I don’t believe he is bad, yes even with all these accounts. Whatever. He has never done anything to me personally, and though I feel bad for these victims me not trusting him won’t change what happened to him. I don’t believe Travis did those terrible things. I am not uncomfortable with anything he has done but this conversation at all makes me feel uncomfortable. I posted this to get Travis support but there is none of that here. This post has made me feel uncomfortable, and it makes me feel like I am a victim of something when I’m not. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like you all think I’m weak and incapable of caring for myself. In two days time I’m deleting this post. Not because I am in denial or something like that of because I have ran out of ways to reply to this, but I am uncomfortable with how I feel like I’m being treated and that’s that.

It’s not like you need saving - but the world deserves warning. A drowning person needs saving, a beach goer who intends to go swimming needs to be warned about the undercurrent, even if they’ve watched the waves come in all day and think they have a good understanding of what taking a dip would be like.

I don’t believe anything has “happened” to him save for the fact that he’s finally started to have to face some consequences for his actions. And I think his “I’m Tired” video is more manipulation. It’s not slander to say when someone’s treated you poorly, and all the people Travis “doesn’t know” posting supporting accounts about him on tumblr are old friends of his.

I’m a bit confused as to the part where you both don’t believe the people with accounts about his mistreatment but also feel bad for them, but if I’m going to be very straight forward, I did not engage with you because I think you are in a select position, but because I think that general folks that would get behind your taking an action like writing “support Travis” on their arm deserve to hear another side.

I have known Travis since I was 17. He is emotionally manipulative and abusive, my parents and friends have listened to the ways he speaks on speakerphone, wondering why in the world I would keep in contact with someone who is so mean. Typically when we talk when end up fighting, he disappears for a few months, then sends me some random “I miss you” message or something else. I have tried to be friends with him dozens of times, all ending in screaming at eachother. I know now for sure its best to keep him out of my life, and I hope others, esp underage girls will do.

So I just found out about the whole Travis thing. Suffice to say I'm not surprised. I've known him since I was 17 (24 now) and he and I dated as well. He even made a video titled vindictive that was aimed at me to make me feel bad because I just needed to pay my bills. He is a manipulative compulsive liar and will never change, not to mention his anger problems. I'm just glad karma is catching up to him and I hope no one else gets hurt.

I’m not here to persuade you if anything I’m just asking you to do one favor. Travis was deeply wounded by these rumors. He was hurt by the fact people would believe any of this about him and he has quite youtube because of it. He doesn’t even sleep well at night. I’m just asking for everyone to write, ‘Support Travis’ on their wrists until the second week of May. Just to show Travis that even though things seem bad they will get better.

I don’t believe Travis because I’ve known him personally and I know the sort of manipulation and lies that are common for him in his personal relationships. I’m not even trying to ask you not to support him, but only that if he ever reaches out to you, that you be on your guard. That happened long ago because I’ve met him and close friends of mine have come back from encounters with him unnerved, to say the least. He has an overwhelming sense of entitlement and is very manipulative. The allegations just happen to fit first-hand experiences I’ve seen. found an old email we exchanged when we first began this awful relationship. this was the beginning, and as i read through the emails, I realized how much of a red flag this shit was. He immediately made it a point that he hardly ever reaches out to his fans (which, if you saw my Skype screenshots, you’d know he lets me know the same thing over and over). I fangirled over this, of course, and I was so deep in my depression that I honestly didn’t give a fuck that this relationship was extremely toxic. I had my age right on my tumblr page, and he asked me anyway, and once I emailed saying that I told him that if he was uncomfortable talking to someone under 18 he could stop talking, but as you can see, he didn’t give a fuck, either. I have some old texts, too, and I’ll take some screenshots and post them here, too. Once we’d both essentially said “Fuck it, let’s just do this thing,” he let me know how hot it was that I was 16 & underage, we exchanged numbers, and that’s when it all started going downhill.

You just caught me in an ‘up for it’ moment of my life.  I have to admit, I do feel bad that I lied and told him he was my youtube crush (and then one of my youtube crushes) when he asked. I don’t like to lie, but in the context of the conversation it would have felt rude to be like “anyone but you.” And included in his youtube crushes? both P_____ and R______.

I knew Travis of WhatTravisSays -another account to add to the books...

I’ve stayed silent for long enough. This is extremely emotional for me to write as i have sat on this for a year (almost to the day). I’m not even sure i should come forward still, but I am anyways, as you can read. 

I knew Travis of WhatTravisSays. I dated Travis, I had an online and very brief physical sexual relationship with him, he was one of my best friends for a long time. I knew him for approx. 10 years off and on and while I was of age when I met him, he has done much of the emotional manipulation to me as he had done to many other young women who have come forward. 

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about the Carson accusation (he called me a couple weeks after it was posted, basically as soon as it became known to him), I didn’t want to believe it. In fact I did everything in my power to assure him it would blow over. Here I was a woman who truly thought I loved this man. He was my world for a long time. But as I did my own investigating, my own inquiring (sometimes almost interrogation like) things didn’t add up. Dates that he had conversations with girls fell around the time he had trips to come see me, names were coming out with details that started to make sense of past lies he had told and convinced me of. The more questions I asked, the more I started to doubt him and his story. In turn this made him more irritated and angry with me. He did confess to me that he had an online sexual relationship with her. That he knew she was underage for awhile and did not stop or even want to stop, that he had pictures and conversations that he was deleting (which I witness him delete) for whatever reason. We went to a consultation with a lawyer and he lied to the lawyer.  When I inquired why he did that he said (I’m paraphrasing this is not verbatim), “If I tell him I knew and had pictures then he knows I’m guilty of this and will get in trouble for something that was consensual”. 

Now people here are going to ask “what a stupid girl! why did she stay!? see she must be making this up, why would you stay if you knew he was lying”. My answer to skeptics is this: I wanted to know every piece of details i could get my hands on before i moved for good away from him. I wanted to try to piece together all the years of lies and manipulation I was finally waking up to. It was hard, I was depressed,  I was lonely. I was going against everything I believed in, compromising my values on so many issues just to get to the bottom of what had happened. I was disgusted with myself for giving him the time of day still, but for my own piece of mind, I wanted to know and TRY to understand why. 

I spent 4 months waking up. Coming to terms with what my friends and family have been telling me for years. I didn’t believe them for years when they told me of course i said “You don’t know him like I do!” or some stupid shit like that is common lingo for emotional abuse victims. I learned as much as I could in the time i had and to this day i am STILL piecing together the timeline of our relationships (friendship and romantic). It breaks my heart that so many young women have been suckered into his game. I now have to seek psychological help for the emotional abuse he put me through. I hate that can I crack open a book on emotional abusers/sociopaths and it’s like reading an autobiography of his. 

I get this won’t change people’s minds. In fact it may piss off a lot of his loyal fans, but just understand that I was one of his original loyal fans, I helped fund a couple of his projects. I was the sounding board for a lot of his ideas, I believed in him just as so many of his fans do now. But let me tell you, his YouTube persona is NOT who he is. You cannot know who anyone is based off of some video clips that they choose to splice together to make their best side shine. Be careful, be skeptical and do NOT get charmed by him if he makes you feel special. He likes coming of age girls, who are vulnerable and desperately want to be seen as special and unique and to be told “you’re the only one”. If you’re one of the few who say “he didn’t do it to me!” Good! Be grateful. But just because he did not do it to you, doesn’t mean he wasn’t seeing other women on the side and lying to you about it. He knows he has to save face with the majority of people and he does it well. Manipulators know and play the game well to gain the trust of people who they interact with. So the few people they choose to get their claws into, if they come forward they seem absolutely crazy. Why? Because he knows you’ll say something like: “that’s not the Travis I know! He’s charming and nice, so understanding and fights for human rights like gay rights and women’s rights!” 

I will share my personal experiences at a later date, but for now this is all I have. I wanted to throw this in the pot of experiences and tumblr seemed like the place to do it for now. I want to sincerely apologize to any women who have been emotionally and/or physically hurt by Travis. I hope all of you get the help you deserve and please even if his viewership keeps going up, DO NOT give up the fight for justice and to have a normal life again. Come forward and say your story to the authorities if you were underage. The statute of limitations is not over and technology can retrieve a lot of the digital evidence to build a case against him. If you were of age but he still manipulated you, reach out to any of the women, who has come forward and say your truth.

Note: I want to explicitly add, I DO NOT support anyone dishing out death threats or cyber bullying whether they are guilty or not. It’s wrong for someone to wish death or harm upon someone as much as we may hate them. Those individuals have family and friends who would sincerely miss them so wishing harm on people you may or may not know (Carson included) is pathetic. Those words do real damage and time and time again we have seen people cyber bullied to the point of suicide.

Remember Internet Prom? I asked Travis to go with me a while ago because I didn’t know that he would actually take the time to watch a little promposal from a fan. Anyway, that’s how our communication started. I think I was 16 or 17 at the time (I’m now 19). Our relationship exclusively consisted of texting, mainly him initiating the conversation and calling me “cute” and “adorable” and whatnot. Coming from a man who was around 9 years older than me, I felt weird. I tried to brush off these things and I didn’t want to admit that they made me uncomfortable because I just really hate confrontation. I talked to some other YouTube friends and got similar stories from them. When I decided to tell him that I didn’t like his texts, he acted like a child. He pouted, whined, and was generally passive-agressive. He told me it was just the “way he was with everyone.” I didn’t know how to take that, so I just stopped responding to his texts. I was confused because he acted like our relationship was much more than it was – we had only talked verbally once on Skype!

Recently, I’ve asked myself why I always feel this weird intuition whenever he contacts me. He was never explicitly abusive or sexual to me. I guess I’m just grateful to Carson for telling her story about Travis’ advances toward her, because it validates this gut feeling I have. I admire her and every other victim of sexual assault and abuse who has the courage to talk about their experiences. You are creating a world where our daughters will never have to endure something like that.

Please don’t be afraid to trust your intuition if you are in a situation in which you feel uncomfortable. That instinct is valuable. Don’t let anyone discredit it.

What gets me about the Travis situation right now is that he’s telling people to think critically about the situation and to believe evidence and whatnot when his twelve minute video amounts to “~somebody~ said ~something~ but it’s entirely untrue!” Like if you can’t even get specific about what you did or did not do and the only thing you will say is “there are screencaps but they’re fake I swear” then how do you expect people to believe you? especially with the mounting actual evidence on the other side?

This user could have been lying, how do you know she was telling the truth? I'm not sure if Travis is telling the truth either (about how he didn't do any of these things) but my question is. A friend sent me his video and I watched the entire thing to see if I was named or anything. Because I definitely said my part, and I definitely was acquainted with him. I watched the entire thing with his vague references to what had been said and his attempts to make him sound like the victim. I do not know the original girl who posted about this. I do know many of the other folks who’ve come forward with stories, and some who have stories who haven’t. I don’t believe  this girl because I’m a sheep, I believe her because I’ve encountered his aggressive / predatory nature first hand, and the entire time I knew him, he was feeding me bullshit. He says that people were telling him to kill himself. I do not know if this was true, but I did not see any of that. I can say that I was a person who responded to a lot of folks questioning his whereabouts on different social networks with a link to stevebusexual’s original post.  Honestly, it feels to me like he needs some actual help. And I hope he gets it. And I hope he doesn’t prey on anyone else ever again.
