Wake up: Periphery
Drive: Periphery Be: Periphery
I love Periphery.
I love Omega because that song is riff city. There’s like 8 distinct riffs.
Jamming in the mornings is great I wish I had better speakers however.
This is only but a dark reflection
Super duper happy listening to Periphery instrumentals
So this just goes to show how instrumental I want my music to be. My *hope* is that I'm actually catching on to what the future wants. It really is instrumental. Language can be too familiar and many people are "forced" to listen to lyrics because its second nature. As I said there must be rests for voices and rests for instruments as well. This will drive me to pursue a balance.
Spencer sings too much
The guitar work over which he sings in nearly every song is too intricate to be diluted also with his voice.
I think they all could have made better decisions in letting his voice rest and letting the instruments speak for the album.
This is most noticeable in The Bad Thing, Hell Below, Omega, Alpha, The Graveless, Stranger Things
I love Spencer’s voice, a major reason I love Periphery. But Periphery II had key instrumental moments that were really self-defining and in Juggernaut case they lost that uniqueness.
What would prompt more words, singing? More accessibility. Hopefully this can promote discussion.
Heavens see that this man once had value among all the golden
Walk the faded line
Cursed ground of time.
22 Faces -> Rainbow Gravity is beautifully seamless
Oh but 22 Faces -> Rainbow Gravity -> Four Lights is kickassery. Ending in the heaviest of breakdowns akin to hardcore punk. Oh BUT THEN Psychosphere wraps everything up with one of the best intros to a Periphery song. It is CHILLS. And so much beauty in changes.
3:42 into Quiet World
And everything changed. This is what I wanted to do...
We will never be the change we used to want to see
We will never cross the lines that were drawn for us.
Isn't this desire that you're looking for?
Or is insanity knocking at your door!
The end of Omega is so much like Octavarium it's nearly comical
But wonderful. Progressive metal is what it is. Love it so much.
There is a divine satisfaction in understanding another person's art
Especially when it's a through process, that could take hours to days to weeks. In this case it's Periphery's Juggernaut albums. I'm probably on my 10th listen of Alpha. And I if I have less time I play the transition track to a full track i.e. The Event -> The Scourge It's those transitions that make add to great story. And I'm still only paying attention to the writing (the lyrics, not so much.) This is the same process I went through with II. I listened to that 40 times at least. And there's always something to appreciate there. And it's creeping up on me here.... Parts that I questioned or dislike make sense as a whole. As such, I understand why it's so difficult to access this genre (or metal, period). These tones must be adjusted to, like training your muscle (training your ear). So I had to adjust myself again. It's been a while since I picked up Periphery. There's been an interlude of EDM, hip hop, rock n roll in between... It's fantastic to appreciate a modern, progressive take on music. And that's where I feel divinely inspired.
Grace sustains me. Pain has ending. There's still hope.
