————————————— Pattern:
BODY
The BODY is knit Stockinette stitch (knit every row) and worked from bottom to top (tail to head).
CO 6st. blue, join in round [6st.]
You can divide the stitches amongst 3 double-pointed needles. Make sure to mark the begging of you row (you can use a knitting marker or in lieu twist-ties work, as well as safety pins).
Round 1: Kf2b ALL [12st.] Round 2: Knit ALL Round 3: Kf2b ALL [24st.] Round 4: Knit ALL Round 5:(kfb, k1, kfb, k1…) ALL [36st] Round 6: Knit ALL Round 7:(kfb, k1, kfb, k1…) ALL [54st] Round 8: Knit ALL
Round 9:(kfb, k1, kfb, k1…) ALL [81st] Round 10: knit 2rows
The following rounds include a checker pattern of alternating white and blue stitches that make up Dratini’s scaly belly. The bottom 3rows and top 3rows of the pattern pick up the white at different stitches to create a taper and give the checkered-belly a rounded curve:
Round 11: k30 blue, pick up white & k21 in checker pattern*, k30 blue Round 12: k29 blue, pick up white & k23 in checker pattern*, k29 blue Round 13: k28 blue, pick up white & k25 in checker pattern*, k28 blue Round 14: (k27 blue, k27 in checker pattern*, k27 blue) X 27rows Round 15: k28 blue, pick up white & k25 in checker pattern*, k28 blue Round 16: k29 blue, pick up white & k23 in checker pattern*, k29 blue Round 17: k30 blue, pick up white & k21 in checker pattern*, k30 blue Round 18: knit 22rows blue
Here is where the decreases begin to close off Dratini’s head. Now would be a good time to sew on the eyes, SNOUT, EARS, and HORN while you have access to the inside. You should also sew in any loose white strands and then start stuffing the toy. For the eyes, stack the white button atop the black and sew as one.
Round 19: (k8, k2tog, k8 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 71st.] Round 20: (k7, k2tog, k7 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 61st.] Round 21: (k6, k2tog, k6 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 51st.] Round 22: (k5, k2tog, k5 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 41st.] Round 23: (k4, k2tog, k4 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 31st.] Round 24: (k3, k2tog, k3 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 21st.] Round 25: (k2, k2tog, k2 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 11st.] Round 26: (k1, k2tog, k1 k2tog…) X 1row, knit 1row [ 5st.] Round 27: Cut a long strand (~10") of yarn and sew into the remaining stitches knit-wise using the tapestry needle. Pull the needle through the center at the top and pull snug (just enough to close the gap, but careful not to pucker it) and sew into the fabric of the BODY.
– SNOUT
CO 42st. leaving long tail to sew on; split onto 3 double-pointed needles and join in the round
The SNOUT is knit in stockinette and then flipped inside out at the end. A kitchener stitch creates a seamless joint atop the fabric. The SNOUT is knit from the base to the tip.
Round 1: knit 2rows Round 2: K2rows Round 3: (k1, kfb, k3, kfb, k6, kfb, k3, kfb, k1) X3 [54st.] Round 4: knit 4 rows Round 5: (ssk k14 k2tog ssk k6 k2tog) X2 Round 6: (k5 ssk k2 k2tog k5 k7) X2 Round 7: knit 1 row Round 8: Divide stitches evenly among two needles and graft sides together using kitchener stitch** with the tapestry needle. Leave a long tail to sew onto BODY.
Flip the SNOUT inside out so that the reverse-stockinette (wavy-dash side) is on the outside. When sewing into the BODY, make sure to sew into bottom-most stitches of the SNOUT so that it pops out nicely where it attaches– also really stuff it with fiberfill as you sew it on.
– EARS
The EARS are knit flat, in garter stitch. The shape is irregular so each row is different, following the pattern below:
CO 6st. Row 1: kfb, k3, kfb, kfb Row 2: kfb, k7, kfb Row 3: kfb, k9, kfb Row 4: kfb, k12 Row 5: k13, kfb Row 6: k13, k2tog
This next part is a bit tricky, but basically you are binding off the first two stitches. So k2 and then pull the first stitch over the second, then k2tog, and pull the already knit stitch over the one created by k2tog.
Row 7: BO2, k2tog, k9, kfb Row 8: k12 Row 9: CO2, k2, kfb, k11 Row 10: k14, kfb Row 11: k16 Row 12: ssk, k14 Row 13: k2tog, k13 Row 14: ssk, k8 BO2 Row 15: k10 Row 16: ssk, k7, kfb Row 17: CO2, kfb, k11 Row 18: ssk, k11 Row 19: k12 Row 20: ssk, k10 Row 21: k9, k2tog Row 22: ssk, k8 Row 23: k7, k2tog Row 24: ssk, k6 Row 25: k5, k2tog Row 26: ssk, k4 Row 27: ssk, k1, k2tog Row 28: k3 Row 29: BO
– HORN
The HORN is knit flat in garter stitch.
CO3 Round 1: kfb, k1, kfb Round 2: knit 2rows Round 3: ssk, k1, k2tog Round 4: k3 Round 5: BO
————————————— NOTES
*You could knit the belly in all white alternatively, if you don’t care for the checker pattern.
**Click the link up top, under Techniques, if you need to learn kitchener stitch.
I have this saved on Ravelry. I'm going to knit it up for very belated birthday gift for a friend.
Couple of yarns I finished a while back. One is silk carrier rods plied with eri silk and pearls and the other is superwash merino fractal spun and chain plied.
Nifty spinning tool I just learned exists. It's a Gaelic tool, the earliest surviving example is from the 1700s. It's called a Dealgan, pronounced jel-gan.
Progress of my portrait of my brother's dog.
Needed to practice more with my tablet, so fan art for three comics I read. Left to right the characters are Saint, Thistle, and Hawk from Saint for Rent, Daughter of the Lilies, and White Noise, respectively. I decided to draw the white haired characters. I was also going to draw Corrick from Plume, but something was seriously off every time I tried. Thistle is the best of the three, which probably means I need to work more on the bottom half of the face.
I got myself a tablet funded with Christmas gifts. First attempt at using it after some test scribbles. It is a Huion 610 pro. It is also the first graphics tablet I’ve ever used, so while I know I can draw a much better cat, I am quite please with it.
PS. Apparently Tumblr doesn’t always play nice with transparent pngs.
Kiara, kind of. I was sorting stuff in my room and found black paper and my pastels. The room is still a mess and this only vaguely resembles my model, but it was fun and I like it.
The first post I’m making from my phone is a hat for my sister in-law’s nephew. He is a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Finished pink tailspun from last week.
Progress pics from two old corespinning projects. The yarns in question have already been knitted into hats for my niece and elder nephew. Next Monday the finished pink yarn will be up.
Glow in the Dark yarn because... Because is sufficient reason. It’s my first 3-ply, excluding navajo/chain plying. I finished it at the beginning of this month, but I had to put this up this week because it’s my Halloween yarn. I’m making a shawl from it for part of my very lazy witch costume. With any luck I’ll post the finished product on Halloween.
Art yarn anyone? I haven’t taken pictures of the finished skein yet, but it’s around here somewhere waiting.
