He shrugs. “Is it a bad thing to watch her?” Yon was just curious why, he had no opinion on whether it was good, bad, or weird. But Akon’s reaction almost made him think it must not be good.

akon’s worked with his captain for a century now. kurotsuchi-taicho doesn’t oversee his work nor does he care how the horned scientist acts. he’s not used to scrutiny like this. especially on some imagined behaviour——which is decidedly not one of his fields of expertise. still, his voice is gruff when he responds. “if yer wanna figure ou’ people interactin’, go find some'n else.” the scientist has absolutely no desire to be some study project of yon’s. why he watches their lieutenant is nobody’s business but his own and he plans to keep it that way. end of story.

Not in the least because Yon.. Didn't know how he fit in. Akon seemed.. More like a son to Kurotsuchi sometimes than he himself did, and yet only Nemu had gotten the title of 'daughter'. Neither he or Akon got that privilege.

Yon thought perhaps Akon and he were in the same boat.. Maybe he also didn't like Nemuri as much..

Given Akon's reaction, though, he must have made a misstep somewhere, so he bowed lightly. "I'm sorry if I've been a bother.." He does not want Akon to dislike him, he still needs to observe and learn from him.

he almost snaps back a 'bullshit' at the lower-ranked officer's refusal of his rebuttal but clenches his jaw a moment instead. there's no logical reason to be annoyed here. (so why is he?) "sounds like yer watchin' me more than i'm watchin' her." akon narrows his eyes a little. kurotsuchi might've created the artificial soul like he created nemu, but the pierced man can't hold any kind of candle to her.

“Fifty-four–” interruption’s abrupt, sharp and cutting through like a knife to butter. It’s a brief oversight (some old habits die hard, it seems… a tale as old as time.) on Mayuri’s end, and he’s willing to overlook it. Why wouldn’t he? His word was the end all, be all, after all. Nothing more, nothing less. “… Yon,” came the curt correction after, the Twelfth glancing up from a project that’s dropped down a few rungs on his ladder of priorities. “You’re a lot more sociable as of late… Don’t tell me that you’ve actually gone and made some friends?”

--- The number echoing through the laboratory has him stand at attention first. Despite having renounced it { partially, that is }, he cannot simply erase years of going by that cipher as a callsign. Regardless, it stings a little, when he is reduced back to that. The experiment; the thing. But within the correction immediately lies immense appreciation for his creator’s effort. The barest of smiles tilts Yon’s painted lips. He expected a command of sorts. A request to fetch old files or clean beakers. Whatever his superior might need for his current project. Instead came a question. Of.. A personal nature...

He is taken aback for a moment. It does not in the least surprise him that his captain knows about the goings-on within the seireitei. After all, their surveillance equipment is highly advanced. But he had not expected his captain to care. “Mm.” He gives a curt nod. “Trying to be, sir.. I figured.. Since I am alive, I might as well try to live.” ‘Friends’, though.. He isn’t sure if he really has any yet. He’s found his social skills sorely lacking in the ‘outside world’. Perhaps he’s absorbed too much of Akon’s personality as his own. He doesn’t know how to engage.. He hasn’t quite been able to tell if he actually wants to make friends or not. Nor when to call someone a friend.

Perhaps his captain will know. “I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘friend’, sir.. When do you call someone a friend?”

The anniversary of his creation? Mayuri is excited that yet another year has passed. "Yon! I have a gift for you. To celebrate!" Mayuri hands him a memory stick. "It contains all the data regarding your creation. Isn't that interesting??" It's about time Yon got to learn all the 'secrets' about how he came to exist.

--- Oh..? His captain has remembered? Well, really it is not that surprising. Yon is just another project to keep tabs on, after all, even if his expiration date has passed. He sometimes wonders how much Kurotsuchi-sama still records about him. When he was younger there had been regular check-ups. Very regular, in fact. Now, he underwent a physical once every year, just like everyone else.

Remembered is one thing, but to come bearing gifts, as well? Yon blinked at his captain curiously, unable to immediately discern anything. The gift must not be physically big, then.

Yon didn't care for his birthday. Or gifts. The passing of time made him nervous. But, coming from his captain, of course he had to accept!. And what a gift it was. When it was revealed to be a memory stick of data, Yon's eyes grew even wider. He couldn't tell whether he was happy, though.. Was it a nice thing to receive? Information about yourself? He could argue yes, simply by virtue of information being infinitely valuable. But.. What if there were things on there he didn't want to know? Were there things about himself he didn't know yet?

His behaviour was starting to border on rude, though, so he quickly took the proffered gift and, placing it between his joined palms like an object for prayer, bowed. "Thank you, sir... This will be of immeasurable value to me, I'm sure." Though.. He wasn't sure. Not sure at all.

Tissue Series

These pieces are made of Japanese mulberry paper and the gilded edges of old books. They are constructed by a technique of rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper called quilling or paper filigree. Quilling was first practiced by Renaissance nuns and monks who are said to have made artistic use of the gilded edges of worn out bibles, and later by 18th century ladies who made artistic use of lots of free time.

--- He supposes she has a point, which leaves him to reflect on why it had struck him as odd. Perhaps because she was a woman, or because he hadn’t seen such variety outside of the Twelfth. Even within his own division there weren’t many people that went all out with their appearance in the way that his captain tended to do. After Kurotsuchi-taichou, he might be the one with the most expressive appearance, if you didn’t count Hiyosu, who just.. Looked like that, rather than styling himself.

“Women don’t commonly do, do they?” He wouldn’t say he is an expert on women, though, so there is something to learn there. “Though it brings attention to your face, I suppose..” It completely framed it, after all. As he understood it, the captain’s fair complexion was very desirable, so perhaps she wanted to contrast this with the darkness of her hair?

--- "Thank you, sir!" Yon beamed. His captain was complimenting his work. It didn't happen often. Not because he didn't do his work well, but because Mayuri did not usually care to inspect it. Yon always was detail-oriented, mostly for this very reason. If his captain chose to scrutinize his work, it should be impeccable !

This project wasn't a passion project of his, maybe that's why his captain wanted to check on him. This was delegated to Yon by Akon, who had probably been told to do it himself by Mayuri. It was a big responsibility. Especially because Yon hadn't been cleared to start his own projects for that long yet either.

"I can work on something else for you if you like. I have nothing going on right now!"

--- Yon dipped a brush in the latex glue and dabbed some on the edge of the prosthetic to glue it down securely. He’d have to go over it with make up, too, in order to hide the edges and blend it with the skin. Nnoitra was pretty pale, so, often enough, Yon used an almost white base to blend. He glanced down to see what Nnoitra was referring to, but soon enough focused on his work again. He acknowledged his solution with a hum. Not the most nutritious option, he supposed, but it would have to do in a pinch. Frankly, if a big actor like Nnoitra had wanted something like that there were plenty of PA’s out here to serve him.. Yon, however, was not one of them, so he arched a pierced brow when Nnoitra suggested he ought to get one, half expecting him to then further suggest he should bring him a second one, too. Surprisingly, this did not happen.

“Maybe I will..” He answered absentmindedly. Strange.. Nnoitra had been in a better mood these last few filming days. Yon wasn’t usually bothered by people yelling at him. He didn’t tend to take it personally. He knew he was good at his job, and so long as the director or producers didn’t have cause to complain, then actors’ whims didn’t bother him. Nnoitra had yelled at him plenty of times in all the hours he had worked on him, but Yon wasn’t reactive, which he felt often worked wonders to calm down his clients. He just continued to be diligent with his work; painting around the anger.

He grabbed his make-up sponge and dabbed it into his water-activated face-paints, mixing some beige and white for the perfect colour. He’d done Nnoitra’s make-up almost since the start of the series, so by now mixing a perfect match was effortless. He dabbed on the paint across the edges by Nnoitra’s jawline and mouth until it looked to be a seamless part of Nnoitra’s face. He had to grime and bloody up his face, still, and make his hair look extremely filthy and wet, but, checking his watch, he still had two hours to achieve it. Nnoitra had sat in this chair for a little over an hour already. “Time for a break, I think. If you want to stretch your legs... Now’s the time. We’ll cover up your tattoos next..” They weren’t part of the character, after all.

I often struggle with creating distinct characters, so I came up with some questions about your OCs that I haven't seen in any other lists.

I recommend answering these for each character once you've already spent some time with them on the page.

What irks other people about the way they converse?

What kind of conversations do they usually have?

Are they a good listener?

How do they react to confrontation?

How do they react to being corrected?

How do they correct others?

Do they tend to speak in long sentences, short & clipped sentences, or somewhere in between?

How likely are they to heed social cues when talking to others?

How likely are they to use body language rather than words to express discomfort and other emotions?

Do they care more about getting their way, or more about how others feel?

What's their favourite skill?

What niche thing are they competent at?

What trait immediately draws them to other people?

What trait immediately repels them?

Even if they haven't met (or even if they're not even in the same universe!), what would your other OCs' first impression of them be?

What makes them angry?

What makes them sad?

What makes them happy?

What's their posture like?

How do they want others to see them?

Do they prefer being barefoot, and if not, what kind of footwear do they usually like best?
