Comic Creator’s Journal 1-3
My Evolving Creative Process
Usually when I write something, I take notes to help bring my pieces together. While a lot of people sketch what they are going to do before hand, I usually just draw whatever I’m going to as the final draft. I have a habit of overthinking (which is why I’m not an art student), which causes me to try and make things perfectly. Thankfully, since art isn’t the focus, I just jot down whatever art comes into my head for the assignments. For most of the art, I use the Papermate Flair pen, since it is so much easier to draw with them.
Things I’ve Learned/Things I’ll Steal
So far, I’ve learned that I’m not the only one that has artwork they think isn’t “Up to par” as many people would say. However, I’ve accepted my shortcomings in art as my specific style. I’ve also learned that comics art can be as crumby looking or as highly detailed as the artist wants it to be. If there was one thing I could steal, it would be the ability to tell a simple story without any dialogue.
I’m hoping that my final project comes out well. I know I’m not being graded on my art for this, but I hope that what I produce would look like I put some effort into it. Hopefully, I don’t overthink on the work like I have in past semesters.
