For every man in your camp, there are thousands somewhere in the West Indies living under the same yoke, chained in fields, pressed on ships, sold into indenture. When they see a sitting governor protected by His Majesty’s Navy, deposed by an alliance of pirates and slaves, how many consider joining that fight? How many thousands of men will flock to Nassau, join your ranks, and help you defend it?

When someone mentions the queer pirate show (updated)
trying to describe black sails to people is my personal sisyphean task. “it’s a pirate show” bad. “it’s functionally a prequel to treasure island but also it’s not at all” bad again, and also confusing. “it’s about pirates trying to destroy western civilization” mostly only true of the second half of the show and also doesn’t fully capture what i love about it. “it’s a pirate show about the power of stories, how civilization uses shame to keep people in line and turns them into monsters, and the power of queer rage. it’s got some of the best acting, writing, everything of any show i’ve ever seen.” the most accurate, but way too long and makes me sound pretentious and insane. send help i just want to talk about my favorite show.

Ya know? I actually love the ending of neverafter being mundane and hopeful and cheesy and answering none of the bigger questions. Because that’s the point. The characters no longer have to struggle and scramble for answers to survive. They get to pick what they do now. And all of them want to live lives that are calmer and more mundane than the ones they had to live in the times of shadow.
Omfg Scheherazade just gave them the signoff they’ve been trying to find all season: “See you in the stories”
finale part one: pinocchio uses call of destiny and gets mira onto destiny’s children’s side, including a heart wrenching conversation about choosing your own fate
finale part two: pinocchio uses call of destiny to get the orange fairy onto the party’s side solely because the actual players are obsessed with her
on this day of the neverafter finale, i just wanted to say this was the first intrepid heroes season i watched live, and it’s been one of the most welcoming, fun, and overwhelmingly positive fandom experiences i’ve ever had. can’t wait to do it all again.
