Gween! The colour for this episode is gween! Join Time Ram in an expedition into the steaming jungles of Central London, as we take Peter Capaldiās āIn the Forest of the Nightā and reimagine it with the Second Doctor. Who is Johnny Morris, and does he mean the Doctor and his friends any harm? What does a tiger do when no-one is looking? And why does this story make Baz so very angry?
In this version does the Doctor still basically turn to camera and say "Hey mentally ill kids, don't take your medication; it changes the real you!"? It was bad enough hearing it out of Capaldi. Would be so much worse from an actually decent Doctor.
we're for real gonna be telling stories about this man for centuries
yall I feel like I'm floating right now
I'm not even into sport but I need the sport movie based on this guy's training.
happy pride to the gay people in my computer <3
Okay, I was just going to reblog this without commentary, but I can't keep this to myself. I'm a PhD student in environmental science and this is my fucking highway.
The first published study about climate change (that I am aware of-- feel free to point out if there's an older one) is an 1896 paper by Svante Arrhenius. He pointed out the link between the greenhouse effect and changes in atmospheric CO2.
Plate tectonics, which the geoscience community now recognizes as near indisputable, was a fringe theory until about the 1960s.
Just in case anyone thought that climate change was a "recent fad" in research.

Other polls to follow
Nine will always be my fav but I was sad to see Thirteen and Fifteen with only one vote each.
[Thirteen had actually none when I voted but got one in the few seconds it took to open the post editor and reblog.]
Sad to see Tennant in the lead... cheating by being two different characters but only one poll option! :p
Today in australia they started senate hearings on the bill the government hopes will make enough disabled people die or disappear to make us all less irritatingly expensive for them. We had two weeks to submit feedback on over 400 pages of complicated legal terms. They don't care what we have to say and they donāt care that this will kill people and disenfranchise disabled people across the country.
There are 760,000 Australians on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the system that - if they feel like it and your personalised plan says you get to have it - provides funding for everything from personal hygiene care to support workers to therapies to assistive technology. It's already very hard for disabled people to get on the NDIS, regardless of your disability. It's near impossible to access most support and equipment without being on the NDIS. And the government has announced that they want that number to drop to 600,000 in four years. 160,000 of us cut off the Scheme - and countless more denied access. This will cause deaths. People will die and people will suffer because there is no safety net. The NDIS is the only option for most of us. Even private health insurance doesn't cover most of these things. Nobody will swoop in to save us.
The bill wants to give the (non disabled!) NDIS minister basically unlimited power to cut our funding. They're already planning what they'd do with that power. What rights they'll strip from us. What dignity and freedom they'll remove to make their budget look better.
The bill wants to force people to try every treatment out there before they're allowed to be on the NDIS. Including if the treatment is literally impossible to access. Thereās a lot of us living in regional areas or out bush who can't just pop to the capital cities for specialists. This will especially hurt disabled First Nations people in regional and remote communities, who already experience limited access to healthcare. Oh, and it includes chemical restraint, too. The government has directly refused to exclude chemical restraint from the required process, calling it "trialling medication".
If you're australian and worried, the ABC did a good breakdown of the proposed changes.
I know australia stuff doesn't really pop up on the radar on this site, but I want everyone to know what's going on. What we're fighting for here. Your australian disabled friends might be NDIS participants fearing for their life, rights, and freedom. They might not be a participant and afraid these changes mean they never will have access. We deserve better. The government built a system with no backup plan, and now they want hundreds of thousands of disabled people to pay the price for their bad planning.
Sorry we're too expensive to have rights, I guess.
But if they don't fuck over us disabled people and try to kill us how will they be able to pay for the submarines that Trump already isn't going to give them anyway?
Maybe they could just bother to actually tax the millionaires and mining companies? Oh, no, wait, the government actually consider them people who deserve to live unlike us.

The Doctor Who Role Playing Game by FASA gets Romana's heights wrong. Romana I is described as tall and II as average height, but Mary Tamm was apparently half an inch shorter than Lalla Ward. This sort of error in such a game is unacceptable and shows that Doctor Who has been doomed since 1985. Or something. I actually don't have anything to say about this minor error besides that it amused me.
In the promo shots for the TVM they put McGann on a box next to McCoy so that Eight would look taller than Seven. I think it's the same thing. Romana I's actress is shorter than Romana II's but Romana I the character just feels taller than Romana II the character.
Multiculturalism is so fundamentally ingrained into Australia that even opponents of it like One Nation and the Coalition are incapable of describing an alternative that doesn't alienate a majority of the nation. Even Pauline Hansonās poor attempts to vaguely define her vision of monoculturalism (a non-existent made up thing) includes reference to multiculturalism to avoid the obvious label of white supremacy that she really deep down wants to push. Liberal MP Andrew Hastie says there needs to be a "third way" between multi and mono culturalism (an also impossible concept as anything more than 1 of a thing counts as multiple of a thing) yet in doing so describes multiculturalism.
Monoculturalism is nothing but a bad attempt at a racist dogwhistle, but to defend accusations of being a racist dogwhistle requires you to say outright you embrace multiculturalism. The entire concept is self-defeating bullshit that only racist idiots fall for.
Let's be honest. This is not a real debate. This is a deliberate attempt to muddle the meaning of the word multiculturalism so it can become a loaded and divisive political term. It's like when the right appropriated "woke" which had a clear definition before being turned into a meaningless culture war catchall. This is not policy. This is racism and division and it's just luck that Hansonās desperate throwing spaghetti at the wall style of making shit up has finally got something to stick.
We know what multiculturalism is. We know it's an important part of Australia. It's not going away. To push for monoculturalism is by its very definition divisive and stupid.
5,500-Year-Old Sumerian Star MapāFor over 150 years scientists have tried to solve the mystery of a controversial cuneiform clay tablet that indicates the so-called Kƶfelās impact event was observed in ancient times. The circular stone-cast tablet was recovered from the 650 BC underground library of King Ashurbanipal in Nineveh, Iraq in the late 19th century. Long thought to be an Assyrian tablet, computer analysis has matched it with the sky above Mesopotamia in 3300 BC and proves it to be of much more ancient Sumerian origin. The tablet is an āAstrolabe,ā the earliest known astronomical instrument. It consists of a segmented, disk-shaped star chart with marked units of angle measure inscribed upon the rim.
Astrolabe from 3300 BC.
