i am diagnosed audhd and i do believe this is in part why i am alter/nonhuman.

i have always been somewhat aware of not considering myself human for as long as i can remember, but i am fairly new to the online communities. please let me know if i get terminology wrong!

my nonhumanity has aspects of being both psychological and spiritual.

i got triple whammied in the alterhuman sense: i am a therian, otherkin & fictionkin.

how i consider myself sort of depends on the day, but in general i am eldritchkin & techkin. i also consider myself generally feline in nature but i don’t know if that’s ‘kin or not.

as a therian i actually dont hate humans and i think hatred for humans in therian spaces is regressive. i understand that most awful things are human made but there are still good humans?? its unhelpful to assume that humans are simply evil and nothing more. also in a more utilitarian way, humans provide clean drinking water, food, medication etc. without humans, my liver problems probably wouldve killed me already 🤷🏻 i just think the rampant hate for humans is wrong and never productive.

while the fact that a lot of therian bloggers are minors definitely contributes to the amount of "unserious" posting, if there is no serious discussion about therianthropy in the first place they won't make any. beings mimic what they see. if they just see "i'm just a puppy ;3" and the like, of course they'll post the same thing. what the hell do you expect.

this is different if you've tried to start serious conversations and it didn't go anywhere, but most of the blogs i see expressing this don't really post much at all. and directing it at others is odd when the block button is right there if you really hate seeing "silly" posts so much. not to be cringe but be the change you wanna see in the world pack

ok this might be a stupid question but it is a genuine one what do you say instead of "people" when reffering to a group of either both humans and nonhumans or just nonhumans? my english isnt the best so that might be a part of why i cant find a good word, but, like, do i pull an optimus prime and say "all sentient beings" or some shit "persons"? do you have to be a human to be a person or what "everypony"??

i think "animals, creatures, beings" and sometimes "things" (iffy, because some could see it as derogatory and others could prefer it-i would err on the side of caution and stick to the first three if it's someone you know wouldn't comfortable with such a term) and other similar terms would suffice if you didn't know what specific terms the creatures in a group you are referring to would like to be called. (such as if a group of canine-aligned animals would probably want to be called "the wolves, the dogs, the pack, etc.")

i also think it will probably be fine if you say "everyone" or "everybody" <- yes, you could probably use "everypony" too if you wanted, haha. personally, i don't see "everyone/everybody" as human-specific terms since it's not directly calling something a human.

you could also just avoid using terms completely, and use collective pronouns or names. ex. "they went to go for a walk" or "alex, baron, and cassie went to go for a walk"

the name-exclusive option is probably best if you're referring to a mixed group of both humans and nonhumans. following the canine example, you could also say something like "alex and the pack went for a walk"

of course, everyone has their own preferences, so it is always best to ask what will work for them!

I really do recommend just sticking with "people". Person =/= human; a person is anyone sapient, which is everyone involved in these conversations. It can sometimes look on the surface like person is a human-specific term because humans are the only species known to be sapient on Earth (as a species, I mean, nonhumans born into human society notwithstanding), but look at any fantasy or sci-fi media with other sapient species and you'll see not even orthohumans actually treat it that way - very, very rarely is "people" restricted to humans in settings where humans aren't the only sapient creatures around.

Refusing to use the word people for us feels dehumanizing for a lot of us (as in the actual meaning of that word, removing someone's personhood as part of denying them rights; contrary to popular alterhuman opinion "dehumanizing" does not actually mean "treating someone as nonhuman", it means "treating someone as subhuman"), and while yes, there are those who are uncomfortable with the word people, there are just as many uncomfortable with the alternatives - and in my opinion, refusing to use the word "people" for us just reinforces the false idea that person = human, and we're better served as a community by reinforcing the fact that it is not in fact a human-only word. Person is a legal class and while I won't call an individual a person if they don't want to be, when speaking in the general about the group as a whole, we really should not be removing ourselves from the word "person".

i've never understood discussions in regards to trying to involve fictionkin identities (& similar fictionfolk identities) more in fandom spaces. i definitely wish fandom spaces were less hostile towards us, but i also don't understand trying to involve ourselves further in specific regards to whom we are. i don't care how close to source's canon my experience as my kintype was, discussions surrounding the source material shouldn't involve my lived experiences as my kintype. i am a living person with lived experiences, my source counterpart is a fictional character who is meant to represent certain themes, aspects, etc. like, as much as we are the same person, i am also a Real Person while my source is. well. fictional. what need does my personal life & lived experiences need to be involved in a community built around a fictional story? if i wanted to be asked questions about my personal life, i'd keep that away from discussions of source because i'd rather people not just treat me like an extension of my source.
