this is both a personal and fandom blog. i usually post personal vents with #tw vent in case you wanted to filter those out. i post nsfw stuff sometimes.

i write fic on my AO3 electricfriend.

i’m into hammer horror and universal horror, star trek tos & tng, classic who, currently kinda vaguely into random shit from pop culture like the GDT frankenstein and smiling friends and digital circus and shit like that. currently revisiting my childhood with cbbc’s young dracula & vampire knight & spn (which i’m watching with my little brother rn) and other stuff. honestly this used to be an ofmd blog but now it’s definitely just a personal/multifandom blog and i’ll update this once i figure out what i actually usually post about lol.

kangaroo bolognese holds a special place in my heart. my childhood best friend’s parents used to make it for me when i slept over and now my new best friend makes it for us when we hang out. sometimes i feel a bit lost without a people or a culture and then i find where i belong in little things that give me comfort and tie me to my place and time and friends.

to this day i still think about the season of ahs that i dreamt after anaesthesia because i liked it so much and im so mad that it doesn’t exist and i cant rewatch it

it was about a transgender nun and her son getting trapped in a ghost town deep in an american version of a rural mountainous region much like you find in victoria and nsw. she ended up getting lynched by the townspeople who weren’t aware they were dead after their corpses were animated seperately from their ghosts by the town rector who had kept the secret of their deaths hidden for many years, it was a whole thing. there was actually so much detail and plot because it was a medication dream.

sometimes i remember that people do things performatively and i get all wrapped up in the fear that someone will think i’m faking everything i do and enjoy and i feel so cringe because i assume thats what everybody thinks of me. i need to give less of a fuck what strangers think and just remember my friends know me and see me. but the eternal doubt creeps in…

so typical of an asshole like me but the worse the cost of living gets the more and more disgusted i become by all these influencers that keep going to fancy restaurants and buying $500 perfumes and shit while we move into fucking phase two of the fuel plan or whatever. sooo depressing. what do you mean there are people living in luxury while my family can’t afford to drive anymore?

anyways that previous post reminded me of an experience that will Haunt me as long as I live:

while at university I took one course on epic poetry, in which we read amongst other things the Aeneid.

if you are unfamiliar with the Aeneid: it breaks down into 2 halves, with the first half (books 1-6) being about Aeneas's wanderings after leaving Troy and the second half (books 7-12) being about the war that breaks out after his arrival in Italy.

so we are reading the Aeneid on my course and we get to book VII. and around the beginning of book VII there is a line that. ok i will quote a translation:

A greater order of things is being born, greater is the work that I attempt.

& the professor pauses on this line and asks us what we think it means. he then says something along the lines of 'I know what my preferred interpretation of and I'm interested to see if any of you think of it. But I'll be surprised because none of my undergraduates ever do.'

ppl suggest various interpretations - the only other one I remember was 'the greater work is the founding of Rome' which the professor agreed was a valid reading.

and okay so. i am sitting there like 'I think what this line means is, up until now Virgil has been pastiching the Odyssey and he is now going to start pastiching the Iliad, and the Iliad is generally considered the "greater work" of poetry.' but I was too shy to put up my hand & also I think concerned that the professor might be like 'no, that's stupid'

eventually the professor wraps things up and is like 'well, none of you came up with my preferred reading. I think what Virgil meant was that he's moving on from pastiching the Odyssey to pastiching the Iliad'.

and GOD i am still so mad. about this. i would have looked so smart!! I WOULD HAVE LOOKED SO SMART!!!
