Not The Grid - But It Will Do {CA open}
2014? That couldn’t be, could it? It was a time in the past and hardly a good one for technology.
“That’s highly improbable, unless you’re not from Earth.” Admittedly he never expected beings from other worlds to use the same measurement of time as those from his own. “In that year the world was a wasteland and technology all but banned. Networks were heavily monitored by overseers in every country and the rebels could barely scrape together everything they needed to construct and maintain their own independent network, let alone create a humanoid program such as yourself. So yes, I am quite surprised to find you here in a functional state.”
He couldn’t stop himself from going on such tangents when there was room to mention a bit of history in everyday conversation. A bad habit but one he was in no hurry to get rid of. Knowledge existed to be shared with others, especially those who knew little of an important piece of history.
“A number of the citizens here seem to come from a place where there is either no technology at all or it has yet to be thoroughly developed. Even where I am from there’s only talk of constructing artificial humans. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by a ‘user’ though. I am a scientist, researcher, and repairman of pre-war objects.”
He had another job of course, more crucial than all of those, but he didn’t mention it to others often. They usually didn’t understand, not that he could blame them.
His head tilted and one of his eyebrows arced as his lips pursed. So, who was this then to try and tell him where he's from? Surely not someone of terrible importance. His tongue ran over his teeth and he sucked air in sharply before speaking.
"No, I daresay its not. And while I am not a citizen of earth I am a product of it. Now I don't know what universe you're entirely from, but you're here now and the year is 2 0 1 4." He enunciated heavily, lip curling a bit to reveal teeth in a basic show of aggravation and aggression. "I don't know why you wouldn't find me functional; my hardware is in check, I don't have viruses and I wasn't reprogrammed. If you're looking for busted machinery, check the city for our Champion. Surely he's lurking about somewhere."
He sniffed stiffly and let his gaze travel up and down the man, taking everything in such as small crucial details in his clothing and making connections from those and from there basic accusations that would later be deduced into truth or falsities. Yes, he was an odd looking one but then again, when one is used to the Grid and everything it pertains- everyone else looks odd. Especially the users.
"Well. My very life is centered around the blessed thing that is technology. I am technology. While I wouldn't call myself human, I am nothing but artificial. So really, I apologize that your time even in the future it may be, is so primitive. My condolences that you weren't given such a... magnanimous creator to bless you with such things." The way he said magnanimous looked like he had tasted bile and his eyes widened just momentarily.
Kevin Flynn wasn't a good topic to discuss in the House of Zuse.
"But irregardless. To me, you are but another user. Someone who has the ability to control the technology. But considering your...situation, you're not. So I daresay you're along the lines of the Flynn boy. Weak and stumbling."
Replies today! So far I owe two, one for Ibuki and one for Abner; that being said-- if you want to thread id be totally up for it considering i want to get more interaction w/ castor anyway.
really sorry for being inactive these past two days or so; i've been having a lot of issues health wise and i've been leaving my accounts out of the wreckage.
ill get to your replies within the next day or so, so if i owe you a reply, please like this post.
Not The Grid - But It Will Do {CA open}
The city and those who ruled over it plucked their test subjects from the strangest of places. Other worlds, and other universes entirely, were bound to be inhabited by odd people… or, in this case, perhaps not even people at all.
The higher class in Abner’s world were certainly prone to fancy, exaggerated dress (truth be told he was rarely an exception to that these days, especially when within the Brühn family’s domain), but to find a person whose outfit was bedecked in bright lights… well, it was a little unorthodox to say the least. Abner wasn’t one for people-watching yet even in broad daylight it was difficult not to notice.
He ran through a list in his head of all the possibilities: this man, whoever he was, appeared to be human but looks could be deceiving. Perhaps this was the clothing of a man of high status in his world? The probability was there alright and it was a high one but Abner’s mind wandered to other, more interesting explanations.
In his own world, there had been talk in the scientific community of creating artificial humans, androids, just to see if it could be done and how well they would be able to fit in with society. With nearly all of the advancements needed to restore Old World technology taken care of, a few great minds searched for a new project to work on. Was there, then, another world out there consisting entirely of these androids? Or could this man be from the future of his own world? Curiosity got the better of him, and he had to know.
He waited patiently until the street crowds thinned out a bit before approaching, phrasing his question carefully. He had no idea what he was dealing with here after all.
“Pardon me, sir, but what year are you from? And… what, if I may ask, are you?”
For the most part, Castor was oblivious of the fellow. He was caught up in the business of the sidewalk and taking most of it in. It wasn't too terribly different from the Grid, it was just more alive and there wasn't the looming feeling of being derezzed for being on the sidewalk too long.
He was standing at the corner of the sidewalk, just sort of lingering there when someone spoke. His gaze seemed to go directly to the source as the rest of the white noise of the city tuned lower.
"The last I checked I was from 2014, as it is now. If you're inquiring about my creation date then I'll have to say no, as it is rather impolite to ask a lady her age. But for the second question, I am your basic entertainment program. And as for you, I'm going to assume you're just another user. Fancy that. Meeting quite a lot of you here."
He glanced around behind the man before looking directly back down at him, eyebrows arching as he smiled.
"Suppose I'm quite the find in this hidden gem of a city. Lot of you are so surprised to find I'm a program."
An Orchid In A Desert {letsbendtherules ; closed}
Sector One was the first place he was searching. He was thirsty, could feel the physical dryness coating his tongue and throat as his body began telling him he needed to find an energy source and soon. With a small grimace he took the disc off of his back and it lit up as he began pulling and pushing at the small hologram that popped up, the neon blue light coating his face as he worked.
His levels were slowly declining, stable for now but if he wasn't to find a power source soon then it could get worse.
His disc also wasn't getting a read of this worlds map either- chalking it up to the constant revolving of the current sector and the other various elements that were making it night impossible to get a clear read. He sighed and shrank it back down onto the white disc and clicked it back into the place on his back. He needed help. It wasn't like he could ask another program where to go or not like he could simply order one of his drinks and things be dandy, no.
So he glanced around, looking rather pathetic and helpless as he did so, looking for someone to catch his eye that might be able to help.
There. He visibly perked up and straightened himself out before approaching the young woman, doing his best to try and shuffle any sort of bad or negative vibes under the rug.
"Excuse me my dear, many apologies for potentially ruining your day, but might I ask you a question? Maybe you can help me, surely you can- I need a power source in this city. Straight from the tap, right out of the faucet. I'm running low, you see."
"Meh, the issue is that Ibuki’s got so many people she had contacts with around here. Getting all of them up to date will be a royal pain, as much as Ibuki loves them all! Thank god there’s no time limit to fix this mess…"
"Hehehee, Ibuki ain’t sure she understands everything you say, but it sounds so cool anyway! Honestly, Ibuki ain’t new in the non-human area before arriving here. She was taken prisoner in an island with her classmates— and there she could talk with a cute humanoid bunny and a scary bear. Not memories Ibuki wants to keep, but looks like those weren’t wiped at least!"
"730 milli—… haha, okay, well, a month is still a month! Thirty days, each formed by 24 hours, not to mention the ones that already passed— and the hour we spent talking already! Time will go by faster than you think if you keep yourself busy with other things in the meanwhile!"
"Well, I'd personally come up with some sort of plan on doing it. I also feel like completely filling them in would cause enormous headaches all around. But I don't know many people here, so its not exactly my problem now is it? But I'm sure you'll figure it out! You seem like such a lion hearted girl, my dear."
". . . . A humanoid bunny. I daresay thats a new one. So you're used to this whole kidnapping and brought to a place you don't want to be business then, are you? Perhaps thats why you're so lively in such a place then. I admire it, for sure."
"I forgot. You don't use our terms around here. Mm. Yet another thing I'm going to need to get used to it seems. But I will keep that in mind! Aren't we the always optimistic one. But yes. With planning and everything else I daresay the month shall be up before I even know it."
"Ibuki isn’t the best problem solver, but at least she can make sure everyone doesn’t fall in despair! At least she tries. Hopefully this… effect won’t last forever. Ibuki liked all her friends and she doesn’t want to restart all over again!"
"The technology in your world must have been very veeeery advanced! But nope, there aren’t only programs here. Ibuki thinks you’re the first legit program she ever met! There are also, uh… demons, witches, talking animals, faeries, aliens… it’s very varied around here."
"It’s not much hard to get a business running here, but it’d be harder if you weren’t at least a Citizen! If you came here just a couple days ago, you’re gonna have to wait something like a month to become one!"
"Just keep your chin up, I'm sure its bound to turn around. Besides. Things are more of a hassle if you keep them broken rather than fixing them. And I'm absolutely willing to bet our dear lovely scientists would rather things run smoothly on their own."
"And I suppose it was. Lot of the programs there were your Basic functions, built simply to keep things running. Think like worker bees. Then long while ago we had your more complicated algorithms. ISOs. Gorgeous flock those were. Then we had your Users, which, is what this world mostly is made up of. And my my, what lovely flavor of users you all are stocked with."
"Mm. Thats what I was afraid of. No matter! If time is the name of the game then the game I shall play. S'what. Nearly 730 millicycles? Childs play. Besides, from what I've noticed you users sort of time goes by incredibly quicker, so it will be even easier."
"Indeed. Ibuki doesn’t like being pessimistic even if things go to hell and people die. Had an experience like that before coming here, it wasn’t pleasant at all— but it taught Ibuki some things at least!"
"A program?! You totally looked human to Ibuki! Then again, half of people who look human around here are also not… Ibuki should have seen it coming! But hey, that’s so cool! Being programmed to entertain people is rad! If you get a night club started you can count Ibuki in as one of your customers!"
"Thats such a good attitude to have, Ibuki, and sad to say not one many people have anymore these days. I know especially where I come it was as if it was in our programmings to lie low when the worst came to light."
"And thank you! I can only speak for myself and those I knew, but next to ISO's we were the best thing next to the real thing. And do you know if they're programs? I'm afraid all I know of are the programs and the users. We weren't informed that there were life forms beyond that.
"And indeed it is! I wouldn't be asked to be programmed for anything else, the best job in the entire world, really. And I'm so glad, hopefully you'll enjoy it. I was the only club owner on the Grid but I was damn good at what I do."
"What I wouldn't give to open up my club again, considering that black hearted demon destroyed mine.."
"How well would that go over in such a high tension city..."
"Aaaah, so that’s why you’re not that affected by… whatever is going on. This is getting more and more confusing!"
"That comparison is pretty rad tho! Ibuki aims to please herself and others!"
"Indeed it is! Lucky me, I suppose. Or not so lucky, as it were, considering now I'd have to help others figure out whats happening. But why look on the darker side? Especially on something like that."
"And good! I'm so glad you like it. Incidentally, I'm the same way, but I've had to put that sort of hold since coming here considering.. I have no way of pleasing people. You see, my dear, I'm an entertainment program; I live to see people alive and so vibrant and full of joy, and more importantly- seeing them reach their potential through myself and Zuse.
"But since coming here, I have yet to find a proper place to re-open my nightclub, so as you can imagine its been dreadful! But thats why I'm so glad to meet someone as you. Someone so vibrant and so happy. It means theres potentially a crowd for me to open up for, and thats always news an entertainer loves to hear."
"Zuse? Ibuki can’t say she knows the man…"
"Theeee name’s Ibuki Mioda, pro musician and radio host! Would be more enthusiastic without the current events, but nevermind that! How long have ya been here, Castor-chan?"
"Just moved into the city, actually, both of us did. Not even two days ago, what wee lambs we are. But I must say, its refreshing to see someone as vibrant and alive as you are, Ibuki."
"Like a nice surge of power after a tiring night."
"This is gonna be such a hassle… but for the sake of Ibuki’s friendships, she’ll do her best to make everyone remember!"
"Oh, Ibuki hasn’t caught your name yet!"
"Thats the spirit!"
"Name? Castor, my dear. Castor, secretary to Zuse, the man himself, and all around man to know. Nothing happens without getting past me first. And who might you be?"
"Ibuki… guesses you’re right. Knew it was yet another experiment, but still couldn’t stop people from going if they wanted to…"
"Mm, of course not; users are not so bothered to change when it comes to matters of the heart. Hopefully things get ironed out in the end but in the meantime, I suppose its up to those of us who haven't been that effected to help them.. Fun, fun, fun stuff indeed."
"Everyone’s acting strange… what in the frickle is going on?"
"The result of such childish desires, my dear. Its not very wise to trust a place thats kidnapped you now is it? Especially when they just give you a way back with nothing in the fine print."
{ Considering Castor didn't go home, and he's been here literally two days, I'm going to opt out of any memory loss of him being in Citta; nothing of real value lost anyway, maybe meeting Stan, Masa and Lydia? but other than that we're good.
So yeeee. }
