Bonus:Hate

The United States of America seems to have a big issue on immigration which is pretty understandable due to terrorist attacks against this country. Since 9/11 security towards the border of America have tightened up for good reasons, but has channeled it to a type of hate. A big problem in this country today are hate crimes against immigrants such as Muslims and Mexicans stating that Mexicans are gang members and taking most of the jobs also Muslims are all terrorists. Hate crimes like these are starting to affect families and young kids because now it is travelling to local schools and kids even in pre-school are showing hate toward other students. One thing Americans should realize and come to the conclusion of is that this country was not theirs to begin with and was discovered. The word discovered is to actually make it seem more pleasant but this country was taken away from another race that did not have the power to fight back. This country was also re-build on the mindset of a fresh start, when many Europeans would travel to America for a new beginning. We should keep that type of mindset for this century because it is the same issue that people move to America for a better life. Since the trump rallies before Election night Mexicans have really been a target basically showed that they have no worth in this country, which is untrue. Trump which is the new president started a campaign based on closing off the borders and creating a wall to block out Mexico. Events like these especially from our leader in this nation can stir up hate and local problems. Ever since these rallies there have been attacks on different groups such as minorities, Lesbian and Gay community and also Muslims. The United States of America should go back the old mindset this nation had and that was to build a home for refuges and to start a new and better life for people. If this nation can go back to this mindset it can benefit so much and destroy the hatred that is building up in America. Usually local problems like this can cause a division within a nation and that can be the result in many things such as The civil war which Americas 2nd and not at a good time with problems stirring internationally against terrorist groups such as Isis, we need to be strong and together.

Dancehall

When you listen to a genre or a song you’re supposed to feel something. It’s supposed to give you a sense of emotion such as joy, sadness, etc. Dancehall which is a Jamaican genre that many people do not know about. They may refer to it as reggae or mistake it for reggae many times but it is not there is a difference, the difference is reggae plays every instrument with a flat sound and usually followed with lyrics that tells a story. Dancehall on the other hand is a bit self-explanatory its music that is played at parties and also played with more of a high tempo followed with lyrics that speaks about more of the ghetto side of Jamaica. Dancehall is also a music that brings excitement most of all and is making its way to other countries as well expanding to the United States and even Japan. Dancehall is now starting to be a known genre, obviously growing up in Jamaica I’m very familiar with the genre and since I was younger I enjoyed the sounds and beats of dancehall music so much that I even thought of being a Dancehall artist. Dancehall music is not only for parties and excitement it’s also a way for youths to express themselves. Dancehall now becoming a popular genre can now be found on Spotify, Pandora and even ITunes. A song that defines Dancehall to me is Western Union by Vybz Kartel which can now be found on ITunes. This song defines Dancehall because it explains everything about the genre and how it works in Jamaica, also it is sung by the most famous dancehall artist of all time which honestly cannot be argued. When you hear the word dancehall the first person you will think of is Vybz kartel. Music like western union are so influential to Jamaica and the youth of America. Western Union discusses and focuses on how the systems works in Jamaica that money is being dragged from the poor and given to the rich, this describes the genre so much as it addresses the social problems in Jamaica and that this is the way to change. This song inspires young kids to beat that system and not let the system beat you. This is a main problem in Jamaica and this genre does a lot for this country although it is second to reggae dancehall will always be an exciting genre.

Data collected

For my third project I will be researching the discrimination in our communities against minorities, I plan on researching how discrimination affects our minorities and how it results in their future. For My research I will collect data by using two methods. To answer my research question I Will partake in two different methods. My first method is using Facebook, this is an easy method to start with because almost every day I see a post about the current issue of discrimination and how it affects some of my friends. I will use these posts and also even contact some of the people on Facebook who deal with discrimination on a high level. My second method will be doing a survey for my classmates who predominantly are a minority, there answers will be very useful for my research question. Their answers to my survey will give me different opinions on how discrimination affects an individual an also how it affects their community. These methods will help me better understand my scholarly gap and maybe have an answer for it when I am finished with my research. I also did research on how discrimination can affect wages and with the data I collect it can answer the scholarly gap that I found, they addressed that Caucasian (both women and men) are likely to have a raise than a african american but the truth is that even Caucasian women face the same issue as a black person would when it comes to wages so that puts a gap in the opinion of how most caucasian people grew up. Throughout my data collected I hope to learn the basis of my research and to answer my scholarly gap, I want to also learn and better understand my research and the survey will help me better understand that. The survey will also keep me open minded on and look at different points of view and different answers without being judgmental against them. My survey will consist of 8 short answer question 4 of them will be a general yes or no question. My first question is at what age did you first start to witness discrimination (whether it’s with you or someone close to you)? My second question is Have racial discrimination affected your mindset on school? My third question is Does racial issues ever come up in your community? My fourth question is how often do you witness racism? My fifth question is Does your community leader/mayor ever tried to encourage minorities to help the community in anyway or form? How? My sixth question is how can we discuss racial injustice in our communities? My seventh question is how can discrimination affect Young teens? And my last question will be how can we get the community and police on the same page?

Gaps

My research topic is “How do we discuss racism?” So far the scholarly gaps I found in my research are “what is the true definition of racism?” And “can a minority be racist?” so far I got that racism have to do more with power and who have power and that it’s unlikely to see a minority as racist because they have no power. Finding Research in my topic addresses how we can get out of our comfort zone and talk about a social issue that is difficult to bring up. I also found out that Race is not a big issue in politics, With the President election I was expecting Race to be a big issue in The debates although race did come up as a topic question “how can the candidate change the problems between police forces and African Americans?” the discussion did not last more than 20 minutes. It seemed like both candidates breezed by the topic. I believe Politics is a great way to address Race especially now in this time period with social media and the presidential Election being so popular. My Research also addresses who ignores the topic of race the more, and not surprisingly Caucasians are more likely to ignore the topic of race. My research does not address the solutions of us talking about race but does give a hypothesis of what might become such as less conflicts between police officers and African Americans. My Topic does not an address why police officers target Minorities instead of Caucasian’s, I tried hard to find research for this issue but I did not find any reliable source just opinions. My gaps are clear can minorities be racist in America? I believe this unclear because there are different opinions such as Racism deals with power and minorities do not have power in America, another opinions yes they can because racism does not have anything to do with power but more discrimination so it is an issue of power vs. discrimination. Although this is a gap my belief is racism deals with more of Power that discrimination and discrimination refers to more racist than racism. Police targeting African Americans is a great example, a African American is more likely to get arrested with illegal contraband on them than a Caucasian and is more likely to get killed by an officer during an arrest than a Caucasian.

take a step out of your race for once...

We should discuss interracial families because that seems to be a problem in society now a-days. The first time I had seen an interracial commercial was a Cheerios commercial that a lot of people (white people) were debating about. In the commercial, there was a white little girl and a white woman and the little girl poured the Cheerios over her black father’s heart so it can stay strong. I do not understand how this can be so controversial in the 21st century, when racism “does not exist”. Many people strongly wanted this commercial off the air because of the message it was sending, which was nothing bad just a happy family that was interracial.

           I feel like this is important topic because racism should not exist even though some people are stuck in the 1800’s so they cannot look pass racism. This topic is kind of personal for me because I come from a very interracial family. My mother skin color is very pale even though she is black and white but my father has darker skin and is only African American. I grew up with two different kinds of grandmothers, one was from Alabama which is extremely racist. One time I was in Alabama with my father’s mother and as we were walking down the street someone walking pass said “that must be an Oreo child, you know half nigger half white.” I was younger so that statement did not mean much to me but my grandmother was extremely offended and ended up saying something to the person. To this day I do not understand why it bothered that person so much that I was lighter than my grandmother. I thought he was just being an asshole but my grandmother told me it bothered them because it was not something they are used to in the south.

           I feel that we should discuss this topic because I would love to know other people opinion on this topic. On social media, there is a lot of black males who say “I would never date a white woman because they cannot cook” as a joke but how can you say all white women cannot cook if you do not know all of them. It is not only black males on social media that tend to make joke about interracial couples. Lately there is this African couple, he is white and she is black, they got married and had a baby but somehow they were floating all over social media for negativity because of their skin color not because they are truly in love. I never seen the issue with this topic but lately everyone has some type of controversy about it. I just feel this is more of a group discussion were we just it in a circle and talk about it. Before we sit in the circle I think we should write down how we feel about it.

Now a days you definitely see the problems arising with interracial families and it can honestly cause very big arguments and discrepancies between not only the families but others around them. I’m not sure if it’s truly a good topic to talk about in class, but it is a good topic that you’re thinking about and I agree with you on it that it needs to be more publicized!

This is a topic we should discuss and really place our self in this situation and if everyone had a mindset like this there would be less ignorance in this world. Placing yourself in another race or skin color let you see how things are like for someone else, also seeing both perspectives. Many times we don’t care to understand how someone else is dealing with their issues in their life because we don’t understand how that would feel because we aren’t them but if we open our minds we can really start to understand how others feel.

Blog #7 “Citing Properly” & discussing current events

Honestly speaking I can say that I’m really comfortable in this course even though I’m a little timid sometimes. But one thing that I feel that should be stressed more often even at this level of English is citing and annotating properly. This can be blamed on my lack of knowledge I this particular area but for some odd reason I feel like I haven’t really mastered to citing to the full degree. I know it’s a little embarrassing that I am still having trouble with citing in different formats but this is how I really feel bluntly speaking. As I mentioned earlier that I feel very comfortable and enriched academically with current format, but since we’re putting in our 2 cents I feel that we should discuss current events and what’s going on in the world around us especially in this day and age. With the Middle East in turmoil and the two major world powers basically having small proxy wars though out much of the Middle East I feel that it’s very important and beneficial for us to discuss current events as often as we can because it’s always good to be fully aware of these things. One of the many reasons that’s it’s extremely beneficial to stay informed with current events is the fact that it may even have a impact on yourself and the community around you. For example with the horrible events that have been plaguing Syria and much of the Midd East this has caused a huge pour of immigrants on Many countries, recently reading the Buffalo news I noticed that some of these immigrants fleeing their homeland have finally settled in the Buffalo area. Reading and following current events can even go all the way where it help you understand the community around you and the people living around you. Apart from situations like this, staying up to date with current events and news always interesting and sometimes even necessary to do well in certain courses and general life lol. Just looking at the current presidential election you can see that there is a lot at stake and it’s very important to vote. Reading a lot of the current news can give you a huge boost of information on the candidates running for the presidency of this country! Some of the stories I’ve read worries me and most importantly gives me a huge boost to get out there and vote, mainly because I feel like a lot is at stake and if I don’t vote my life can take a huge change in direction.

I must say that I agree with both topic. I hate citing because I feel like it’s just an extra step in writing a difficult paper and yes whoever we get information from should get credit, but why put information out there if you don’t want others to use it. There are so many formats=and ways you must put it in that are unnecessary. Annoying in high school was also annoying but it did help me out in college so I don’t feel like that’s a big topic to have to touch base on. I do feel like we should talk about current events as well because we should know what’s going on in the world. But we kind of already do talk about current events like Black Lives Matter and what’s going on, but yes, we should continue talking about more current news so it’s a good idea.

Citing is always an ongoing learning experience so I do agree with this topic I believe I do not know everything about citing and annotating myself so it wouldn’t hurt to discuss how to better our writing. I strongly agree with discussing current events because there is so much going on in this world at this moment, this election is kind of blinding us from what is happening in the real world outside of the United States. There is a lot of injustice going in areas such as the Middle East and this would be a great discussion topic to talk about.

We cover a lot of topics like with politics with candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump with his shenanigans and a lot with police brutality. What we have not really looked into is effect on the diversity of a lot of races and the way we treat others and how that can affect somebody positive or negatively and how we sometimes react to these things. Especially during the times, we tend to blame different races on doing certain things like trends, hairstyles who did this or who did it first instead of embracing or just liking certain ideas from different races. I know a lot of people who will judge others and will get mad about what other people wear like with certain shoes like Jordan’s and even with hairstyles like Bantu knots or braids. I too do get aggravated when I see these things. Not because of the fact that some people are wearing it or following what others are doing because that happens in a country full of diversity and knowing the technology that we have, but it’s because sometimes, I feel like a lot of people aren’t get the recognition they deserve and they praise what they have ONLY when they see a celebrity doing it and they follow. With using the example with Bantu knots. For many years, most colored people like myself would wear things like Bantu knots in their hair and will get looked at funny because it looks ridiculous. Not a lot of people even thought of the hairstyle. When Rihanna was doing it, a lot of people started to bash her about it as if it was stupid. When Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian did it, it was we the best thing that people have seen and it was cool to most people and a lot of people are doing it. Which have started negative disputes between different races especially with how some people view the fashion trends within different races. It shows a lot in our country and how we view others that we consider are taking ideas of others. Whether we like it or not, Its going to always happen

We have too much hatred against one another and especially in the black race we aren’t together and that is our downfall. Like what you said with the Kardashians start a trend that was already in the black community instead of us calling that style ghetto we could of embrace that style and maybe that would of came out of the black community instead of a Caucasian family. Equal Opportunity between men and women wages

Do you know that Men get paid more than woman? Did you know that society consider woman  to be housewives? i feel like this is one topic we can discuss in class. what does is it really mean though? Are females paid less because they choose lower paying jobs?  Do they get paid less because they have more care-giving responsibilities or maybe even because they do more part time work than men do? But, the real question is what does gender bias as to do with the paychecks being giving?

According to “AAUW” the truth about gender pay gap is succinctly addresses these issue by 80% statistics. The reason Men get paid more than woman is because woman are the ones to get pregnant and have to take days off to get checked out also the company would have to pay you for not working those days. Also health insurance i think the company would be responsible for that covering hospital bills and plus sick days. 

Do you know that if your a woman and an minority that it is 10 times harder for you  to make it in this world.The full time workers in 2015,  Hispanic, African american, american Indian, and native Hawaiian had lower median earnings compared to non-Hispanic whites and Asian woman. They also only made 80 cents for every dollar that a man has made with a gender wage gap of 20 percent. i feel as if men are more demanding in what they want also and woman just settle for whatever they are offered. In the middle skill occupation workers in jobs mainly done by women only earn about 66% of workers in the job that are actually done by men.

I completely agree with this statement women aren’t being treated the way they are supposed regarding the wages they receive vs. the wage a man receives, and I believe this happens because society truly has no respect for woman and this might hard to believe too women don’t have respect for other women especially in minorities. In the African American race there are arguments about which complexion is more attractive Light skin vs. dark skin. Ignorance like this can lead to disrespect against woman and not give the, the respect they deserve and need. It all goes back to how woman are viewed in our society.

NBA vs NFL

Should NBA players follow the rules NFL players do by letting a college student go through four years of college before being drafted? This is a topic I noticed not a lot of people tackle or talk about. When I started watching basketball I notice how players would even skip from high school to the league such as LeBron and Kobe Bryant, in these cases you would say these are great role models and they are hall of fame basketball players but if you look at the majority of high school basketball players that go straight to the league are not successful because they either not live up to their hype but also injury can play a huge part in all of this by ruining a player career. In the NFL players make it through all four years of their college career to be considered to be drafted by a NFL team which gives a player maturity, growth and also experience before coming in the league making them ready for the big league. It’s also very beneficial being if a player is injured which is very usual in the NFL they can simple fall back on their degree making a better situation for the player. Now the NBA has a rule that a player has to at least partake in their first year of college, which isn’t that different than the senior year in college. I believe this is even a more waste of time because a player does not gain that much experience for being one year in college and will not be NBA ready. This is the trend we see today in the NBA as soon as a player is finish with their first year in college they quickly decide to be in the draft. The new NBA commissioner Adam Silver should be more active and show effort in the protection and future of their players by following the rules of the NFL and let their player’s gain more experience and knowledge by letting them go through 4 years of college and then be considered a draft prospect. There are a few negatives towards it when you think of individual stats and individual pay. Now players have a mindset of getting money and to start their NBA stats early so they can be as great of a player like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James but god forbid an injury occur was it all worth it?

Clinton Vs Trump

As I watch the two presidential debates that were aired on national television for the past month, each topic that was brought up were pretty important like racial injustice and local economy but I couldn’t but thinking the only topic that was really important was “How do we handle Isis?” As a college student it’s kind of nerve racking to think what will we be the plan against Isis because if America would go to war it may lead to young men being drafted to fight. The wrong decision can also lead to many innocent Americans to lose their life. Hillary’s view on how to handle Isis was more subtly than trumps, basically her plan to be more low-key and not be loud about the situation by attacking the leader/head of Isis before starting a war more like what President Obama did with Osama Bin Laden. Hillary seemed like she had more of a plan than trump, although these candidates are trying to persuade the population to vote for them Hillary won my vote just on how confident she sound about dealing with Isis but at the same time if Isis chooses to attack America first that would not look good in Hillary’s favor. Donald Trump view on how to handle Isis was more aggressive than Hillary’s. Trump wants to go straight to having the mentality of not negotiating with terrorist, he wants to evacuate them immediately. Trump did not say any give a plan on how he will achieve his goal of stopping Isis because he said they might be watching so he basically wants to keep everything a secret. Trump wants to go full on force to stop Isis and as a student in college that can be scary because that may lead to a World War 3. Voters don’t want to be scared in this situation they basically want to be comforted and be aware of what is going on outside of America, The aggression from trump can really scare most voters but at the same time can comfort citizens knowing that the job will be done and get done as long as Isis will not be a problem. On the other side with Hillary Clinton, her idea of being subtly and attacking the leader/head of Isis can comfort citizens because she has a well detailed plan but can be discomforting to some citizens because their might be a fear of Isis attacking America first.

Hey what’s good! I am a sophomore majoring in Business and soon Minoring in Digital Production. I hope to one day get into contact with the right people, and start my own record label. I am 19 years old and from Albany, NY. Music, and sports in general help fuel my fire throughout the day, every day. Music is a way of life for me. Throughout my life, I have had many obstacles thrown my way, whether it was heartbreak, disappointment, life changing decisions, and facing unfortunate realities. Music has been my escape route for quite some time now. Writing music has helped me get through some of the toughest times. When I was only five years old I wrote my first song and from there on, I have been writing songs non stop. In my past, I have done a plethora of things that I am certainly not proud of, but I am trying to make myself a better individual, and a better man. My main focus is definitely the hip hop and R&B genres of music because I can better express my thoughts and feelings. Now that I’ve gotten all of the sob story boo hoo crap off of my chest, there has been a lot of good in my life as well. I mean, a brotha graduated from high school when all the odds were against me (and other African Americans), and according to that bum Donald Trump, “You are living in poverty (first of all, all of us African Americans are not all living in poverty), your schools are no good (second, all of our schools are not no good), you have no jobs ,58% of your youth is unemployed (and last but certainly not least when referring to something this nut job said, we aren’t all unemployed), what the hell do you have to lose?” What the hell do we have to lose!? How about dignity? Maybe respect for ourselves? The list could go on and on. I could probably write a book about it. I could name this book Donald Trump: The One Who Changed America. Take it as you would like to, but in my eyes, Mr. Trump is certainly not fit for anything but being a low key Hitler. I’m not saying that if you vote for Trump you’re a bad and heartless person, but in my eyes, those who vote for Trump haven’t opened their eyes to reality.

I agree Donald Trump is so similar to Hitler I’m surprised not many people notice that. It’s also kind of sad because Donald doesn’t even have a college degree, but it seems he has influenced many people because he has gained a lot of followers in the past year which is surprising because he is always being smashed all over social media and hated on even there are games made about him but not in the good way. Like “dump trump” and even worst games to portray the type of man he is. Hopefully the 21st century Hitler will not be President.

Plans

its undeniable that technology has steamlined the way professionals do their jobs,making it possible to better prioritize tasks, complete projects with greater speed, and produce higher quality results. it has also opened new doors for online communications, and made it possible for us to conduct meetings with partners and employees who are across the world or remote workers and contractors who does not share a office. Even the most seasoned business professional sometimes has no clue how to plan a meeting when one of our attendees is off site.No matter how experienced you are with online meeting tools, sometimes mistakes happen and things go unexpectedly awry. No Matter how well you’ve prepared for your online meeting, it isnt humanly possible to control everything and sometimes things just dont work out. Maybe you lose your internet connection, your attendee can’t get connected or can’t get the meeting service up and running, or your laptop crashes unexpectedly.

Always have a Plan B, Just in case!

That is as true as advanced as technology is there no way possible to be 100 percent planned and ready for something even well prepared business men all ways end up having small hiccups coming into a meeting. I remembered in High school I planned a power point presentation way before the actual presentation maybe a moth in advanced and on the day of the presentation I made one mistake and it ruined my whole presentation. Technology can assist you but won’t help you a 100 percent to be organized and plan, even professionals aren’t always as planned as you think they are.

I GOT ROBBED!!

It all started May 1, 2016, the day everything went south. I was so excited that my first year of college was finished. My friends and I decided to leave our stuff in storage, so we packed our stuff up and put it in the truck. Our first dilemma was finding someone 21 and over to drive the truck. Being in college, that shouldn’t be hard right? Guess again. Since everyone on the campus was moving and needed a driver we were a bit late in assigning one. But we made the best out of it and found someone to drive the truck.

We are now on our way to the storage place, our things packed in the back of the truck alongside us.  As we approach, I see the sign of the storage company in which we thought we made a good choice in choosing because we spent days looking for it. We get the big carts and take the big stuff out the truck first, such as our huge trunks and containers of shoes and clothing. Then we take everything else out and neatly pack our storage space so that everything fits and no damage will be done over the summer. As usual, there was someone who needed to put other stuff in the room so she went there to find that some of her things were missing (a pair of boots). We paid it no mind and reassured her that all the things were in there.

Now that storage is done we anxiously waited to go home and start enjoying our summer. Fast forward, summer is over and we are now back to school. We greet each other with hugs and smiles, and excitement. Although we kept in touch over the summer a lot it feels good to be in the presence of each other. Now I am ready to see my room and fill my empty room, with all my things that I bought from home and of course what I put in storage! 

We all gather up and head over to the storage place in excitement to move in and finally get started on our new semester. We finally get to the place open up our space and notice that it looks a little lesser than what we actually packed but we brush it off and start looking for the girl’s boots. As we’re moving things around we came to the conclusion that the boots really aren’t there. We start moving more things around and notice that our 3 big trunks are gone?!?! So as we keep moving things out there are more things that were in the storage room that isn’t in there anymore.

This story is still ongoing so this is where I’ll say to be continued….

That sucks that you had to start your sophomore year on such a bad note, but you should have saw it coming when your friend send her boots were missing that was like definitely a sign I would have reacted to. I’m still a bit curious who could of took your stuff or maybe you guys have misplace everything I hope you and your friends find all your stuff, I know if I was in that situation definitely flip out. You should also try and talk to the storage place because they may have cameras or someone could of saw anything.

Women in the black community: How many essays does it take to realize we are all just the same?

What does it mean to be black?  Being black isn’t just about a skin color, it isn’t just about the texture of our hair or even the clothes that we wear. Being black is a history and i’m not talking about slavery, although it  plays a major role in our lives, it shouldn’t be the only thing that defines and divides us.

If you thought being a black man in society was tough, having to be stared down and gunned down because the verdict is in: “guilty on the charge of being black” leaving life as the price to pay, try being a black woman in society. Being a black woman in society means having to fight to define your beauty. It means having to dress half naked just to be noticed as beautiful, it means having to hear the words “you’re beautiful for a black girl” as if your head wasn’t hung low enough already. Now, if you thought being black and being brought down by those of a different race was bad enough, try being black and being knocked over by your own.

In this day and age we see black women competing with each other for the  attention of others rather then standing tall as one. When we think of teamwork and togetherness, a few things come to mind like family, trust, harmony and even shared experiences. These words go far beyond our basic dictionary definitions, they take us back to times of trials and tribulations when black people had no other options but to stand close to those of the similar skin.

It is important for us as black women to stick together and share the bond of sisterhood. In today’s society, we like to think it is okay for a black woman to be herself, that it is okay for her to embrace her naturality, but in actuality, many people do not view those qualities beautiful. If only we were a few skin tones lighter then this wouldn’t be such a fight for us.There is somewhat of a battle among women inside the African American community. This internal battle is a debate on whether “team light-skin” or “team dark-skin” is higher on the social ladder. This brings me back to my original argument. Rather than standing together, black women insists on bringing each other down. How can we demand the respect of other races if we can’t respect each other as one?

I completely agree on your statement regarding the fact that there is a sense of feud between the African-American Community which is so true especially dealing with black men and women. There are too many black men that are not treating black women how they are supposed to be treated. Like African American fathers abandoning their home or even the way they address their own race. As a black male myself I believe for our women to be respected as black individuals there need to be a sense of bond and communion between both genders. Black women should not go to any extent to be beautiful because they already are.

I know the topic of Politics usual don’t interest anyone but to me I have noticed that politics have been starting change the aspects of every topic like sports, entertainment and even social media. Being that the Election is in November these two candidates have really made a great impact on other issues that no matter what it goes back to these two candidates especially trump. Recently there have been a numerous amount of African Americans being brutally killed by Caucasian Police officers, usually in the black community this is not a surprise because these types of events have been going on for years but know social media has a grip on the issue and has introducing the world to the racism in America. Now it’s a bit of a surprise to America being that these killings are being recorded and shown live. Even being that these events are recorded still the officers that are involved with the killing are not being sent to prison being sent on a paid leave absence. A topic like this always leads back to Politics being that one of the candidates for the upcoming election Donald Trump have been showing America what racism really is, Even on social media trump rallies are being recorded seeing a group of people attacking minority groups verbally and physically. With these types of racism unfolding in America Bigger names in sports are taking a stand to stop violence such as Colin Kaepernick Kneeling down why the national anthem plays but even an event like this racism seems to creep up because some Caucasian men and women are calling acts like this as ungrateful and I would see these kinds of stuff on social media many people are saying racial comments and attacking athletes that take these stands for their community. This all goes back to politics with Trump revealing what living in America is like, being an immigrant from another country I don’t feel a sense of comfort when I see Trump says what he says at his rallies that immigrants are the cause for the “bringing down” of America and that once they are gone or under control America will be great again. Comments like these and events like this influence and plays a big part in sports, entertainment and social media, also shows the generation that spends more time on social media what the true America is.

For my CWP 102 course I have been assigned a project that has to deal with multimodal composing and analysis. So for I have completed one multimodal project in college which was in my freshman year, I used the Burchfield Penney center which is located outside of the Buffalo state campus. My basic understanding of multimodal projects are usually the use of pictures, music or videos in a presentation for a power point. But for this course I feel as if there is a more well-meaning for using multimodal and analyzing. More research and background information are more involved in the process of making a multimodal project, referring to the project that was assigned to me I have to be committed to the project to start researching. My project is to take pictures of a physical space and analyze the pictures I took and the physical space I chose was a construction site in my campus that started around the end of last semester. The construction site is located across from the apartment/dorm complex STAC and is on Rees ST. As soon as I arrived back to campus to start my sophomore year that was the first thing I noticed, a bit of curiosity when through my head as what the school might be building. Could it be another dorm which the school does need being that Buffalo State accepts over 3,000 students a year or maybe another parking lot for students being that the school has an issue with student parking being always a traffic site in the school or even another classroom building showing that the school is expanding educational wise. The point whatever it is that is being build can really help the school or the students and for that reason makes me want to figure out what is the construction site for? For the multimodal project this type topic could benefit me because it is an easy topic to analyze and find research about and it is something that interest me and I am passionate about so I won’t be bored or give a boring project. Analyzing is more than just describing a picture or a video, to analyze a picture/text is to find what information the picture/text holds that’s why research is beneficial for an analytical paper or to analyze a picture. I’m hoping that this project will be better than my first multimodal project and can teach me something.

It was around this time to be exact about 7 years ago, that my life took on a whole new level. Not whether I wanted it to happen or not but it wasn’t my choice or decision to make. My life made a drastic change immediately as soon as I arrived in this country. Leaving Jamaica was probably one of the toughest things I have ever done but in true honesty it defined who I am to this day. I was born in St.Andrew, Jamaica and lived there for twelve years of my life. My father wanted me to move to The United States for a better future, which was most peoples dream in Jamaica to go to “foreign” (United States) and have a better future or a better life. I viewed it differently as a young boy, I didn’t want to leave the country that I grew up and had so much memories for. As I stepped on the plane I knew there was no turning back that I had to accept my future with not knowing what’s in store for me. Most of all I was scared actually terrified not of the plane or flying but to be in a place that I never been I felt as if I would become an alien that everyone will start staring at me as soon as I take a step off the plane. I will never forget that plane ride as all my thoughts focus to my new life ahead of me. I remembered I had a sense of calmness overwhelmed on me when I felt the wheels of the plane touch the pavement of the airstrip. This was it! I came to the conclusion that there is no turning back and I had to come to reality of the fact that this is my new home. What made the transition more comfortable for me being in America especially Florida at my school everyone around me  had a different background whether it was being From Cuba, Haiti or even Jamaica everyone was different. I didn’t feel like an Alien or that I would be the center of attention because was different just look me. Leaving my home country really gave me the ability to adjust and adapt to wherever I may go, I will never have the feeling of nervousness or fear when I first left my home country.
