Meet Your Maker #1: High-End Fashion Brands Every Goth Should Know And Crave | Alice Auaa (Japan)
Alice Auaa (Japan) www.alice-auaa.com/ alice-auaa.co.jp
If I’ve learned anything from living in Tokyo it was that fashion and creativity is as important to the Japanese, as air is to humans. Likewise, the energy that emanates from Alice Auaa’s collections convey no other message.
Alice Auaa is a Japanese Fashion brand from Kobe Japan who specializes in Gothic and Punk Urban styles. Since 1993, Alice Auaa has not only solidified its undying presence in the fashion world, but also in the Gothic community. Through its living dead fashions, Alice Auaa repeatedly answers the question of how one creates wearable emotion for the flesh.
Why Alice Auaa Is Important To The Gothic Community: Alice Auaa is especially important to the Gothic community because of its ability to simultaneously articulate and manifest doleful emotion in stitch and fabric with style previously unseen in the fashion world.
Goths take pride in being able to express emotion through their identity and appearance, and Alice Auaa get’s it! The designs boast no showiness or mellow dramatics, just pure decadent moroseness manifested in design.

The Ten Commandments of Gothic Fashion
1. I am a member of the Gothic community. You shall worship your own beauty, likeness, and creativity and only you shall you emulate.
2. Thou shall not wear heels thou can’t walk in.
-The unveiling of calloused feet is an unjustly sight.
3. Thou shall not covet thy neighbors gothicness.
- Being Gothic is about originality and authenticity of style - from the inside out. Discover your inner artist and express the creativity that lives within you!
4. Thou shall not wear makeup for another’s face.
-Wear makeup that accentuates your best features, makes your skin glow, and compliments your bone structure.
5. Honor your body and age.
Everything in life evolves, and so should your Gothic wardrobe. Ageing doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the black lipstick. On the contrary, it simply means it’s time to discover the many other fashion divisions of the subculture that will best flatter the evolving you.
6. Thou shall always avoid the sun.
- Always protect your skin - no race is exempt! The daily allowance of Vitamin D only requires a short amount of time in the sun. It is absolutely no secret that UV rays destroys layers of skin and accelerates ageing.
7. Thou shall not mix black fabric undertones.
-All black fabric is not created equal. Some black fabrics have grey, red, or black undertones. For a flawless look, make sure to match your blacks!
8. Remember to keep holy the color black.
Black is universally the most elegant and appropriate color in fashion. It is also the base color of Gothic fashion. If nothing else, make sure your black wardrobe is darkly radiant.
9. Thou shall not take Gothic fashion in vain.
- Goth is a legitimate subculture. True Gothic fashion centers on artistry and self-expression. It is our cultural lack of mental programming through clothing and behaviour that teaches us how to become self-aware and how to shape our own identities throughout our lifetime.
10. Thou shall wear colors other than black.
There is no Gothic uniform; Goth is not a cult. The Gothic subculture is a community of people with shared artistic interests. Wearing the color black simply does not a Goth make!

#1 Dark Thoughts: Rob Zombie
“When I was a kid, the Rob Zombie "Dragula" video scared the crap out of me. Since then it's become one of my favorite Metal songs of all time! Lol! “
Six Goth-ish Horror Films of Old You Didn’t Know You Were Dying To Watch
For most of us Goths, horror films are our kryptonite. We don’t just see them as movies, but as artistic scenes we have emotional rights to. Horror films provoke a certain response within us that makes us feel comfortable with who we are and anything that happens on screen. Horror films for us serve as a means of quenching our ungodly thirsts without even having to lift a little finger.
If you haven’t seen any of the films below, you must have been hiding out in a shallow grave. Nonetheless, I will gladly initiate you into the horror classics of the twentieth century.
The Omen 3: The Final Conflict
Four words: Bring. Me. The. Nazarene! The first time I watched ‘The Omen: 3’ in its entirety, I developed a new found appreciation for the film. There was something about a dapper, all grown up Damien, played by a prime for the plucking, Sam Neill, that I just couldn’t shake. Maybe his fine suits, determination, connection to the dark Prince, or everything in between did my head in, but after that watch, I quickly added it to my collection.
Interview With The Vampire
Kill with poise! The arts, sophistication, and blood wrap up this masterpiece in a 2 hour bow of terror. ‘Interview With The Vampire’ is undeniably in the top five of the best vampire films ever made. It’s a lengthy watch, but every minute is guaranteed to keep you well-entertained and give you a newfound respect for the acting talents of Pitt, Cruise, and Dunst.
Heathers
Trust me, these girls were Goths! The only difference is these girls dressed pretty mainstream in pleats, plaid blazers, and shoulder pads. And this classic film is only one reason I firmly believe clothes don’t make the Goth...
Before there were ‘Mean Girls’ or any of those turn of the twentieth-century popular high-school girls clique movies, there were ‘Heathers.’ 'Heathers’ has the perfect amount of girl meets bad boy, cool girls ruling with and iron fist, and most of all, the underdog getting revenge. Que sera sera!
Queen of the Damned
Firstly, you can’t discuss the ‘Queen of the Damned’ film without mentioning the soundtrack. The soundtrack is audible gold. Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), Marilyn Manson, and Jay Gordon (Orgy) are just a few of the big names that have produced music for this soundtrack. The soundtrack will forever remain in my Ipod, as will the film in my collection.
Secondly, in my opinion, ‘Queen of the Damned’ is on-screen escapism. Stuart Townsend is easy on the eyes and makes you fantasize a life of rock stardom, castles, sexy jadedness, flying, and complete hedonism...not to mention, immortality.
Alice, Sweet Alice
I remember watching the film ‘Alice, Sweet Alice’ as a child. Alice, played by Brooke Shields, is a loner with a lust for destruction. And she skips around the neighborhood in a yellow jacket feeding that hunger.
Hellraiser
Time to play! Horror Film Director Clive Barker hit the nail on the head when he created the ‘Hellraiser’ film series. As a matter of fact, he’s been working on a remake for years with plans to include the actor who originally played Pinhead, and we’re all waiting with baited breath. But before you start wondering if the remake will be worth your fifteen dollars, make sure you already have introduced yourself to Pinhead and his friends by watching the original first installment of these classics.
You’ll be amazed at the many ways this film shows how the more things supposedly have changed in subcultures, the more they really have stayed the same. Interesting how the studios that produced the movie was even called, ‘New World Pictures.’
Now run along and watch ALL of these films - you can thank me later!!

Gothic Tarot Tuesdays & Thursdays - Book Your Premium Tarot Reading!
As Goths, our problems are more complex than those in mainstream society. We do our best everyday to stay true to ourselves by expressing who we are and how we feel about life. However, some issues we face require more delicate and intricate thinking, and we need raw, honest advice from others like us.
Who we party, eat, sleep, and work with isn’t always someone who is best to advise us or even understands what it’s like to walk our path. Talk to a Gothic community member who can relate to you and is well-educated in the Tarot to give you answers that will help!
Talk to someone who understands:
-Your alternative career, dating, and life choices
-Issues you face with your identity
-Your strong desire to carve out your own path in life
-Your desire not to conform and to seek originality

Darkling TV: Volume One - Five TV Shows To Keep Goths In The Dark And Glued To Their Seats!
Salem
I’m a huge Salem fan! I love the fashion, the glamour, the deception, and all the witchery they pack into a weekly episode. Check out Salem! Even if you’re the most peace-loving Goth, this is one war definitely worth joining.
iZombie
iZombie is such a cute show. I think there’s a little piece of Liv Moore in all of us, the only difference is she’s dead...and eats brains. After getting scratched at a boat party with zombies, Liv wakes up and has to adapt to her new life as a member of the undead. Just think! As Goths, some of us find it difficult to incorporate colors that aren’t black, red, and grey into our wardrobe! Ha!
Check out iZombie! While Liv’s eating brains, the show just may warm your heart.
Penny Dreadful
For the elder Goth, Penny Dreadful has it all! Sex, iconic literary characters with unexpected fleshed out narratives, trickery, demons, witchcraft, fashion, and thought-provoking storylines. I don’t think combining so many characters from famous literature into one show has ever played so well on screen before. Penny Dreadful is written in a way that your connections with a character lessen and intensify throughout the season. It’s makes you feel as if your throwing yourself off a cliff, only to climb back up and do it all again.
If you’re not watching Penny Dreadful, you’re missing out on classic, modern horror.
Orphan Black
Many of us Goths can relate to Sarah/Orphan Black on many levels. We’re rough around the edges, we’re living our truth but struggling at the same time, and we’re still waiting on our break. Not a big break, but just an opportunity for us to get our heads above water and breath. Well Sarah decided she’d take her break and change her life. You decide if it will all be worth it!
Check out, Orphan Black, where spike and white collars collide. #OrphanBlack
Hannibal
If you like a well-cultured, highly-manicured, wealthy, gothic in his-own-right, debonair killer with exquisite taste in seasoned flesh and wine, look no further than Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The first season’s Will Graham was the hook, and the second season’s Dr. Jack Crawford was the bait. We had hoped it would deliver on its subliminal promise and reel us in on the third season. However, I just found out the show has been cancelled.
If you have an obscure mind that feeds off abstractly gruesome scenes and grossly imaginative storylines, Hannibal is for you. But don’t compare it to the films because it doesn’t cater to that audience, which was probably the reason it was just cancelled.
You can always watch it on Netflix. It’s still very much one of the most intriguing shows that has been on television in a very long time.
There's darkness in each and every one of us. As a Goth, you just embrace it.
