Waking Up
It was an unusual sensation Seven felt as her eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the light before the stale white ceiling came into view. Blinking a few more times, her head turned to the side, where Nine was curled up in the bed beside her, evidently fast asleep. A smile would have formed on her face if she remembered what had happened before ending up here. She wasn't even in her own room anymore; it was the infirmary, white walls surrounding her and the uncomfortable smell of medicine in the air.Â
Strange how she couldn't remember anything from before now. As she sat up, she unconsciously winced, even though she didn't feel any pain or discomfort. Her arms and legs tingled for some reason. It was disorienting, and she didn't like it.
Throwing her legs over the side of the bed, Seven huddled over to Nine's bed, fingers reaching out to softly caress the skin of his cheek. He didn't stir, much to her amusement. Fingers ran through her silver hair, wondering what he was doing here too.
Waking up should have felt normal to her. Yesterday had passed, and she had survived to see another day. But if that was the case, why did she feel as if she had just awoken from a dream?

AND NO JAKKU GET OUT.
Leaning against the door frame of her room, Nine grinned at Seven before walking over to her. "Hey, Sev. There's this magic thin' tha' happened, an' I need ta test it out, alrigh'?" Before she could respond, he placed his hands on her hips and leaned in to place his lips over hers. Giving her a small kiss before turning it into a passionate one, he chuckled. Pulling back he smiled at her and released her. "See ya later, oi."
She had no objections to his kiss. Slowing closing her eyes and leaning into him, she was just beginning to enjoy it when he pulled away. She pouted a little at the unfinished business, but by that time he had already started walking off.
Touching her lips gingerly, they still tingled with the feeling of his kiss. Interesting, she noted. There was the faint taste of strawberries on her lips now.

......So who wants to volunteer to go searching for the bodies? :|
Safe and Sound
It felt good to be alive in that moment. They were going to make it home; they were going to be completely okay. As Nine held onto Sevenâs hand, squeezing it every so often so that he knew that this was real, he couldnât help but let happiness pass through him. They were going to make it to the Peristylium safe and sound, and it was all thanks to his beloved girlfriend. If Nine had stayed there for another day or two, he might have been forgottenâbody left unattended in the Milites Empire for eternity. Those thoughts would do him no good as they were approaching the safe zone.
However, their luck had surely run out. Before Nine could feel any attacks being sent their way, Sevenâs hand faltered in his. He turned around to see her collapsing into him, a new wound surfacing on her skin courtesy of more bullets raining down on them. He wrapped his arms around her once he ran back to her, pulling her up and close to him, a look of concern passing over his features before he or she could say anything.
âNine, donât worry about me!â she coughed when she saw him running back for her. âWhatever you do, get past that border!â
As if he would leave her! The dragoon shook his head, angry that she would even suggest such a thing. âIâm not gonna fuckinâ leave ya, oi!â The COMM was suddenly thrust into his hand but he didnât want to take it. He couldnât just leave her there to die, for him to forget; he just couldnât! His stubbornness dictated his actions because he tried to hold her as more bullets kept whizzing past them.
âIâm not gonna leave ya.â He said, holding her so close that he was sure if he stopped, she would be gone completely. âIâd rather die than leave ya here. Iâm not gonna let ya die, Sev.â His cheek had remnants of her blood as she had touched his face and he turned their bodies around so that it was he who was taking the brunt of the attacks. Another onslaught of bullets caught him in the back and he could feel his vision blurring all over again.
âShitâŠit really fuckinâ hurts, hey. Ya thinkâŠif we go togetherâŠwe wonât forgetâŠrighâ?â He breathed shakily, looking down at her and trying to smile.
She should have known he wouldn't leave her behind. After all, she had refused to do the same to him only a few minutes ago. Pressed up against his body, Seven wasn't one to cry but after hearing his words of resolution and his vow not to leave her behind, she couldn't help the tears that started flowing.
A silent cry left her lips as she watched him protect her, using himself to shield her from the bullets. She wanted to say something, but between her strangled sobs and ragged gasps, she couldn't find her voice.
Maybe if she hadn't been so headstrong wanting to rescue Nine on her own, neither of them would be in this situation. Queen would be worried when she noticed she hadn't come back, and others would soon notice her disappearance too. She wondered how long it would take for them to find their bodiesâ
"Nine..." Seven's hand fluttered over his, her voice barely a whisper. "...Thank you. I... loveâ"
She never got to finish her sentence, as a pained cry left Nine's throat and then she was leaning over his limp body. When she followed soon after, a cold darkness beginning to envelop her, everything went numb.
Safe and Sound
A small chuckle escaped him, and Nine shook his head. âI donât even wanna piss ya off, Sev. Iâd rather we jusâ get tha hell outta here anâ get back home.â As soon as they hit the outside world, Nine felt just a touch of comfort. They made it outside and hopefully, they would be able to get out of the base completely. All it would take was a little more will and they would be home free.
His eyelids fluttered closed as Seven pressed her hand against his cheek. The familiar warmth that wafted through him from the spell was enough to open his eyes again so that he could look at his girlfriend and smile. âYeahâŠI canât be leavinâ ya like this, hey.â He sighed softly before he noddedâsignaling that the two of them could be on their way again.
Nine continued to hold onto Seven as they continued their way, moving just a little faster than before. Somehow the little bit of energy she gave him was more than enough for him to lead them away this time around. The only thing on his mind now was to bring the both of them to safety so that they could call in and finally go home. All he wanted was the two of them to be completely safe.
His smile brightened just a little as he pointed. âI think weâre almost there.â
It seemed that the last of her magic had done the trick. Nine definitely seemed a lot better than he had been when she first found him, and he wasn't having as much trouble moving now. Of course, he would still need to be looked at once they made it back to the infirmary and the Peristylium, but for now he would be alright.
Following his finger to where he was pointing, she allowed herself a small smile, nodding once. Yes, just a little more and she could call for help. Once they were out of Milites territory and into Rubrum ground, the soldiers wouldn't have any reason to start a fight on enemy turf even if they did catch up to them.
Just up ahead, she could see the border between the two nations. Pulling her COMM from her pocket and adjusting it in her ear, it was then she heard shouting from behind her. With Nine being in the lead, Seven was the one who took the brunt of the attack. A sharp pain shot through her leg and she cried out in pain, her hold on Nine's hand slackening. She stumbled, unable to move her leg as blood began pouring from the wound.
"Nine, don't worry about me!" she coughed when she saw him running back for her. "Whatever you do, get past that border!"
Bloodied fingers ripped the COMM from her ear, pressing it into his hand. She touched his cheek one last time before urging him once again to make a run for the border. Her eyes were large, filled with urgency as she kept pushing him away from her. At least, if he made it out alright she could die knowing that she had fulfilled what she came here to do.
Work It All Night
He spun her around, causing her to gasp. She tried to stop herself. She stumbled into his embrace and he kissed her cheek. His words were sincere this time. And with her fatherâs blessing, it could work out. She would be happy. She was happy and free to decide for herself.
And then he squeezed her hand, suggesting that they leave. Glancing back to her knocked out groom-to-be, perhaps it was a good idea. Tightening her grip on his hand, she gave him a small smile.
Then Evelyn looked over to her best friend, who didnât know how to feel. Listening to her best friend, she let go of Shouâs hand and hugged Taylor. âCome with us. I have a feeling weâre going to see Ace again too. Isnât that what you wanted? What we wanted all those years ago?â
They all had to make up for lost time, didnât they? Slipping her arms from Taylorâs back, she returned to take Shouâs hand and addressed the crowd. âI know you all came here for a wedding, but Iâm sorry to say that there will not be a wedding. And Daddy?â
âYes, Evelyn?â
âCan you tell Sebastian that Iâm sorry?â
She could hear her mother growling as her father chuckled. âOf course, little bird.â
Picking up some of her dress, she began to run down the aisle dragging Shou behind her. For the first time in her life, she felt free.
Shou shook his head, smiling to himself when Evelyn left her father in charge of apologising to Sebastian in her place. She really was too generous sometimes. If it had been him he wouldnât have cared, but then again she didnât have the same history they did. The two had been rivals during their college days, so it was an interesting turn of events that Evelyn would end up being engaged to him one day.
Following behind her, he took one last look at her mother who was still fuming at them before running out the doors after her. Gathering her up into his arms, it would have been an interesting sight for anyone indeed. With Evelyn still in her wedding dress and her in his arms, anyone could have guessed that the two of them were the newly wedded couple.
âSo then, I guess this is where the future begins, hey?â Shou chuckled as she put her arms around his neck. Going down the stairs, he set her down on the ground before pulling out his cell and punching in a quick message. Taking her hand, he led her towards the beach, motioning for Taylor to follow.
Having Evelyn's arms around her was quite comforting. It reminded her that she still had her back, even after all that had happened in the past couple minutes. And she was right; she did want to meet Ace again, especially after having her past re-awoken by Nine.
"It is..." she began, her voice quiet. "I do want to see him again."
As Evelyn prepared herself to run from her own wedding, of all things, Taylor shifted her gaze towards her parents. While her father was smiling, her mother was furious and looked like she would blow any moment. Mouthing an 'I'm sorry' to Mrs Raines, she dropped her bouquet and followed her best friend out the door.
Now that she could breathe being out of Mrs Raines' sight, she tilted her head to the side, wondering what Nine was planning. He simply cocked his head, motioning for her to follow and she did. She had to admit that it was a little awkward running around in her bridesmaid dress, but as she approached the beach she noticed a lone boy standing at the top of the stairs leading down to the sand.
Hearing the three of them approaching, he turned his head, revealing a young face with blonde hair that had hardly changed from when she remembered him. And the smile on his face was indicator that he remembered her too.
"A-Ace!" she cried, running forward to meet him. The way he said her name, it was as if years hadn't separated them at all. And now she was sharing in Evelyn's happiness.
Work It All Night
Her father had given her his blessing. Evelyn couldnât believe her ears. She would never thought he would say it. Normally, he would shrug off her mother and then, comfort and shower his daughter with affection later, but not today. She supposed that he wasnât too comfortable with the idea of his only daughter being forced to marry someone chosen for her.
âDaddy.â She breathed. And when Cid looked to her and then to Shou, she felt the tears beginning to form. Her father had always wanted her happiness and sacrificed his own for her, stayed with her mother to keep Evelyn herself sane. And now he was standing up for her, protecting her.
She then shifted her gaze to Shou, who looked at her with such honesty in his eyes. She was going to fall. Evelyn was going to take her chances instead of being a puppet. To make her own choice, that was what she wanted for a very long time. âIâm going to trust him to catch me.â She whispered back to her best friend, stepping forward to take his hand.Â
âDonât you dare leave me again, Shou. Or there will be hell to pay.â If there was one thing Evelyn inherited from her mother, it would be her temper.
She was hesitating, or was she still in doubt about his words? He held his breath, waiting for the longest moment for her to take his hand. And when she finally did, he released that breath, grinning widely at her and chuckling.
âWouldnât think about it,â he laughed, pulling her into his embrace and spinning her around before he stopped to plant a small kiss on her cheek. âI promise, âm not going anywhere. âCause Iâll be right by ya side, oi.â
Looking down at the still-unconscious groom on the floor, he raised an eyebrow at Evelyn and frowned. He didnât really want to be around when he woke up, and neither did he want to stay within 1 metre of Mrs Raines any longer.
âWhat dâya say ta gettinâ outta here?â Shou smirked, squeezing her hand.
Now turning his attention to Taylor who stood behind her, he addressed her with his next words.
âTaylor⊠I know ya donât trust me yet. But trust me when I say you should come with us right now. âCause I think thereâs someone you should meet.â
Taylor would have cheered and clapped for the turn of events happening between Evelyn and Nine. If not for the fact that he was intruding on a private wedding, creating a scene in front of both of Evelyn's parents (who were both quite influential, must she add) and assaulted a man who was now laying unconscious on the church floor.
Everything was moving too quickly for her to keep up. She watched as Evelyn took that step forward into Nine's hand, and she looked so much happier as she did so. She hadn't looked that happy in years, she thought. Even after all he had put her through, she was willing to forgive him?
Taylor bit her lip as her hand curled into a fist. She wasn't sure what to do, neither who to follow or who to trust.
"You're right, I don't trust you," she began coolly. "I mean, you're telling me now that neither Lance nor Nine was your real name?! But... you make Evelyn happy, in a way that I can't."
She would do the same as Evelyn. She would take her chances with him.
"...And if you're the one she's chosen, then I respect that decision."
Work It All Night
He had an odd way of showing it. Eluding her after all these years really sent the wrong message to a lady. Evelyn bit her lip. She was going to say something but he had confessed his love for her. And how could he love her? They had only met twice, made some memories on some sheets, so how could he say that?
How could she even believe him?
Why did you come back now? Why the change of heart? Was it because he was going to lose her for good? Had he remembered her clearly now more than ever? Reaching out for Taylorâs hand, she gripped it tightly. âH-How could you love me, a stranger you met by chance?â
And how could she still pine after him after all these years?Â
Staring into his eyes, Evelyn shook her head. âYou do realize that the biggest obstacle is my mother, who is over there.â
âAnd listening.â Jihl snapped. âListen, Evelyn. If you do this, I will disown you. You will not be a part of this family if you do not do as I say. I forbid you from going with this misfit.â
âMother, thisâŠâmisfitâ makes me happy - something that havenât been in a very long time.â Evelyn argued, shifting her attention back to her mother. The two women looked as if they were going to attack together. And that was when Cid Raines raised his palm, stepping between them both. All fell quiet. His grey-blue gaze was fixed on his daughter.
âEvelyn, does he really make you happy?â He asked.
To that question, Evelyn silently nodded.
âThen, I will not stop you nor will I let your mother stand in the way of your happiness.â
She had every right to doubt his words. They had only met once or twice, had some fun but on both occasions, they hadnât even been honest with each other. How did she know he was being honest now?
âYou make me⊠feel things. In here,â Shou mumbled, holding a hand over where his heart was. Dammit, he never had been good with words. âItâs the same foâ you too, ainât it?â
And then just as she was about to answer, she had to remind him of her mother who snapped at the pair, expressing her distaste for him, the âmisfitâ. She did have a point though. How could he ever measure up to her level, to her status?
Just as Shou was giving up hope, Evelyn spoke up, followed by her father. In all of the chaos, he had completely forgotten he was there. He expected similar treatment from him, but he surprised him when he gave his blessing to the pair.
âSirâŠ?â he began, turning to him. He didnât say anything, simply looked at Evelyn, back to Shou and then nodded.
Turning to Evelyn, he extended his hand, palm outstretched towards her. Would she take his hand? Would she be willing to take that leap? Leave everything else up to chance? He looked at her expectantly, awaiting her decision.
Up until now, Taylor had been content with watching the drama from afar, but when she saw Evelyn shaking in her spot, she didn't hesitate to move to stand next to her, clutching her hand for support. Looking straight at Nine, she gave him a look that was a mix between glaring at him and fearing for his life.
After all the hurt she had seen Evelyn suffer through following their first night together, he had had the nerve to put her through it a second time? She didn't believe his confession at first, but something about his words sounded sincere, honest even. But more than that, she wondered what he was getting himself into; she had to admit, the man had guts to interrupt a wedding orchestrated by Jihl Nabaat-Raines.
She wanted to speak up, but this was something that Evelyn and her mother had to deal with between themselves. She flinched when she heard Mrs Raines raise her voice again, and again when Evelyn raised her own voice. And when her father interrupted, her hand gripped onto Evelyn's tightly as if afraid of what he would contribute to the argument.
But when he expressed his blessing, and Nine held out his hand for Evelyn to take, Taylor was in shock. She had been expecting a wedding, not this. Looking down at Nine's outstretched palm, she looked at Evelyn and murmured, "What will you do?"
