I also believe what they have is real, but I also believe that Armie is no longer willing to hide himself for others, including Tim.

Years after what happened to Armie, Tim still can’t even say his name and instead calls him a “scene partner”

Tim wants Armie, but he also wants to hide him from his glamorous fake Hollywood world that he loves so dearly. He expects Armie to wait in the shadows while he goes out and shines.

Tim needs to take the social and professional risk, instead of expecting the other person to carry all the emotional cost. Otherwise, what he’s offering isn’t love, it’s controlled access on his terms, where he gets the emotional benefits while avoiding any consequences.
